@JosephandElissa It did, but the design was faulty and there were a lot of leakage and warping complaints from customers. They were going to redesign it a bit and then decided to go back to the drawing board completely. So hopefully something better will appear soon :) - Kat
@SeattleCoffeeGear Thanks for letting me know! I ended up contacting the company and they said they are working on something for 2012. I am interested in what they will come out with, as the other cold brewers aren't aesthetically pleasing. I know the end cup is what is important, but if you have to keep this out for a day it should look nice on your counter. Thanks for all the videos you post! I am a subscriber now and have used your reviews in my purchasing decisions!
@JosephandElissa They were all great performers, with different benefits. The Hourglass has been discontinued so you could take that off your list (I should probably take this video down) :D - Kat
Cold brew is the best coffee in the world, never a bitter taste and more than 60% less acid. Coffee is natural acidic ,but this device reduces the acid levels.
@Keepskatin I really love it; we're about to do a comparison tasting of the 3 cold brew methods we have right now (Hourglass, Hario & Sowden) to see which performs the best. - Kat
That seems like a lot of coffee for a minute amount of concentrate.
I made some cold brew this week for my gf using 1 cup a moderately fine (slightly finer than drip) medium Mexican organic fair trade (freshly roasted) let sit for 14 hours and strained with a paper filter. She found that diluting it was way too weak (3-1 water to concentrate) and eventually had to drink the concentrate straight (heated in microwave). She loved the coffee more than any ive made (french
@77dris Given that you can theoretically get 16 cups from this (if you use just 1 oz. of extract) from each brew (and can brew this twice) then it's not an inordinate amount of coffee to be used. But we did drink the concentrate straight, too, and it was intense but (if you're normally shot drinkers like us) drinkable. - Kat
The container you store your concentrated coffee would be good if it could connect to the opening of the larger container with some threads on the inside of the top, that way you only needed to flip the whole thing over again like you did with the coffee and dont get any spilled coffee on the workbench. I hope that made more sense to read hehe
Theoretically, yes. You could experiment with the concentration level, etc., to make a brew you like. There's nothing inherently particular about the function of this item that you couldn't approximate with a press pot. - Kat
Does it really stay fresh for 2 weeks? I wonder how it tastes after that first week or the second week in comparison to just after it was taken out. Seems like a cheap way to get some really good coffee for iced drinks, which is awesome for me (since I just had to repair my espresso machine). Great video by the way!
That is a shame that the Hourglass was discontinued! It looks so cool, and reviews said it made a great cup of coffee.

So which one won the cold brew method? The Hourglass, Hario, ours Sowden?

Cold brew is the best coffee I have ever had! Discovered it while living in New Orleans!

That was a very intresting thing but why dont they make threads for that little bottle to get threaded onto the top??

@peterahjorter Not sure what you mean? - Kat

can you just soak coffee grinds in a pot and filter it the next day? or use something like a french press if you already have it

I was looking at this on your web site and was wondering why i should buy this for $70 and not a toddy for $30?
eedwards74 2 years ago
In our experience, this is designed better, may have more longevity. The toddy makers that we tested just didn't have good build quality. - Kat

Well, I haven't tested it out -- but I will. We'll make a batch and then test it as it ages. - Kat

How much coffee concentrate do you get per "brew"?
bookfound 2 years ago
Approximately 16 oz concentrate, which yields eight 8 oz. cups of coffee if you use the recommended 2 oz. concentrate per cup.
