I think sexuality is tough for trans people, hard as hell to find someone in this world that you really connect with...love is pretty elusive.

Many women especially that become criminals, come from very rough childhoods...and likely even very bad associations with men in general, that can lead to fear and more.

Still a short-term discrimination, though. The viability isn't my issue. My issue comes in the forced inspection and placement. Whether the trans woman has a neo-vag or not, she's perceived as different.

To make an omelet, you gotta break some eggs. It's a struggle, but safest isn't best, imo. And if I get broken in fighting for equality and tolerance, so be it.

I still saw these cops trying to figure out how to fix something that was broken...but they can't just bring hypotheses to the table.

They found her listed as male, and having supposedly been housed with males recently.

They had to see who was wrong, the system or her.

...and in the end the cop said he felt bad she had to go through all of that, but she would obviously go through it again if not fixed.

Even I went into Social Security after my divorce and altered my SS card, without any real documentation. : P

Most identification is purchasable, that's why so many that are busted have so many aliases.

This is actually still a fairly new phenomenon, there have been transgenders forever...but the full changes & surgeries being more readily available, is pretty new.

...it takes time for protocol to be put into place, & I'm sure they are still trying to figure out what is best for all involved.

Too many stigmas still exist to make this an easy transition, it will take awhile for them to really have a workable arrangement.

Genitalia is still a taboo subject in society.

Actually many model protocols are being adopted which house according to identity, not genitalia. And rightly so, in my opinion. A Google of "transgender jail protocol" reveals SF's shining example as its #1 result.^^

...you lose more and more rights as you get sentenced and have to serve time.

They even have regular strip searches in prison, all the prisoners undress and everyone is searched at once...which is one reason the Jovanie Saldana thing was so weird.

@Asuigeneris1: Doesn't matter much to me, now, because at that point (prison), you're sharing a cell with only one other person. And we NEVER lose amendment #8; the right to protection from cruel and unusual punishment - which extended, forced isolation is.

And strip searches in prison are a non-factor - because they're applied to everyone to search for contraband or weapons, not just to inspect our nether regions. Okay by me.

So they can get hormones and surgery while incarcerated, but then comes the question "Should they have to get the surgery if, for example, they see it as a mutilation...?" Not sure.

Clearly, this individual should not be housed in the mens jail, even without the sex change. Putting this person in a mens jail would be like throwing a genetic female into a men prison.
