  • I just got back from vacationing in Rome and took the Vatican Museum tour. I have to agree with Drewpheus. Our Tour guide, Matteo, who was very good by the way, said the reason no cameras or videos are allowed, even without flash, is that marketing rights to the images in the Sistine Chapel have been "aquired" by certain companies. Seems to be some truth to ths as I saw many Sistine Chapel photobooks at the gift shop and souvenier places.

  • The real reason why they say no picture or flash is because it is damaging to the painting. I am a chemist myself so trust me on that, constant flashing will destroy the dye used for the paint. Come on people...this is not just for you and me, its for our future generation to enjoy as well

  • I dont understand what is so disrepectful to take pictures and videos. Just because a MAN says so..Sorry but if that was the case we would not even know what the Sistine Chapel has in it - if it werent for cameras. Why is it okay for those who run it to take pictures and not our everyday catholic, is is not by our donations that the Vatican overtime has been able to afford such grandure - why can't we take pictures - Screw you all who this it is disrespectful.

  • @rhdtv2002 its a sacred place, and tourists overrun the place.... loud talking in the st pietro (I was there myself this summer) all flashing cameras which is not allowed at all (flashing)... very annoying, and 1 tourist wouldnt do so much damage, but 20 million a year do.... which is why I hate those loud tourists filming everything like they have the right to do that.

you are the guest there, and you should listen to the rules or simply said: fuck off...

  • @MidasRK After you cried about "sacred place" you said "fuck off". Now you will burn in Hell, keyboard hero! Adjectives like "holy" and "sacred" only have a value for people who believe in fairy tales or in a huge puppet show. I visited the Vatican Museum to see art, not to get indoctrinated with religious blabla. Of course, I accepted the rules of the museum, but I still have the right to complain about them.

  • @EendjeKwak sooo... was my reaction focused to you or on somebody else? I am not religious, but I respect it with utmost caution and if you do that to, im very glad to hear that :D. and sacred also means something to me, people put their emotion and spiritual values in and practise them there. THAT is why sacred also means something to me, I respect that.

now the fuck off may be a little bit of a bad reaction but I obviously meant: please leave...

I will repeat: you are the guest, so behave

  • What the fuck is up with all that pornography drawn all over the walls and ceilings? It looks like a four year old drew it with crayola crayons.

  • Did you hear on the news? A team of political dissidents, armed to the teeth, somehow took possession of the Sistine Chapel and broadcast their statements, all the while recording the utter obliteration of the wall and ceiling surfaces with acid wash. A systematic total destruction of the art. I nearly cried in horror.

  • We we were there it was a Friday night so it was almost empty. So I had to be extra sneaky when I took pics because there was no one around me to hide my camera. lol

  • The best artists at that time (Michelangelo Buonarotti, Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino) created breath- taking frescos.

I don't know if today's artists could produce similar masterpieces.

  • u sneeky how did u get away with his ? me and my ex are there

  • I SEE AUGUSTIS

  • PURE BEAUTY!!!!

  • Wow, that must have taken hours to paint.... :-)

  • @irelandbloke 4 YEARS FOR MICHELANGELO! :O

  • @irelandbloke you mean months and months?

  • @nrjelley I was joking !. I know it took years

  • I just got back from a trip in italy and saw this, I recorded too and almost got my camera taken away, I also went to France and seen the louvre, Versailles, and ate in the Effile tower

  • lol i saw this room in assassins creed 2

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Isn't that where "il conclave" takes place?

  • get an android app by a Rome tour-guide that explains with audio and pictures the art, history and thought of the chapel to use or remember you next visit. look up "Vatican' in the android market, developer Romavita

  • You got to take a video? When I was there last summer, a bunch of museum employees were there, saying over and over again, "no photo, no video". It's still quite an impressive sight, with all the paintings. The only problem with Michelangelo is that he never had sex, never seen what a woman looks like naked, so all his paintings of women look like men with tits attached. it's kind of comical. But the Final Judgment painting was quite impressive, even though I'm not a Christian

  • @Billymaysfan6837 I went there last week and all the museum employees were saying no photos before we went in, When we went down into the chapel everyone was taking photos so me being one who doesn't like to miss out took some photos and film too =)

  • @nrjelley

    Shame on you

  • I can understand the use of Flash being not allowed i was there last week and could not believe the amount of people using flash on the Taperstries and paintings!! But surely the use of video can not damage paints etc?? i could be wrong....But the sheer amount of people allowed in is disgracful...the Vatican take a serious amount of Euro's on a Daily Basis..Fact...also they make a shed full of money selling books of the Sistine Chapel so maybe there is another motive for not allowing video!!

  • In nome di Allah , il Compassionevole, il Misericordioso

    1. Di': " Egli Allah è Unico,

    2. Allah è l'Assoluto .

    3. Non ha generato, non è stato generato

    4. e nessuno è eguale a Lui".

  • michelangelo painted the celing upsided down . thats amazing !!

  • @DOLLentertain If you read the book Michelangelo and the Popes Ceiling, by Ross, you will learn that the artist did the work on his back or upside down is actually a fallacy, he did it standing on scaffolding and looking up, arching his back, quite a painful 4 years! You will also learn who perpetrated this myth ! Ciao

  • cappella sistina?????MADE IN ITALY..

    italians do it better!!!

  • it amazes me how a man can paint that,

    he was a true artist.

  • te envidio hermano esa es una esperiencia unica

  • Good job Michelangelo.

  • I've been there. It's interesting. In the same way the circulatory system of a bee is interesting.

  • was there in april photography and video is not allowed.....and not for the reasons people think...the Japanese actual own all rights of publication ( pictures videos etc.) crazy to think that the asians own the rights instead of the italians....kinda sad

  • @BlueOvalAddiction That right has a sunset clause in it I believe. The reason for it is because Japan, for whatever reason financed the cleaning and restoration. Our private guide said that was the only arrangement asked for, and I am pretty sure she said that expires fairly soon. It's like young Parisian lady said to me on a whale watchi boat, as people rushed from one side to the other to get the next whale. The young lady turned to me and said "why do they do this, its all the same picture?"

  • "No Photo!"lmao. I don't understand why they even bother to yell this every 20 seconds if people still take pictures using flash. Taking a pic w/out flash isn't as harmful as w/ flash so they should just yell "No Flash!" instead.lol

  • dude i would lvoe to go into the vatican archives anyone else with me damn that would be an experience i would start with tryin to find the dialogo or diagramma :):):)

  • idiot, they ask everyone not to film or take photography, and u disrespect it and do it

  • IMPRESIONANTE lo mejor de todo fue haber hecho este viaje con mi familia. Me encantaria regresar pronto.

  • why arnt you allowed to film inside ? i can understand flash photography maybe screwing it up but filming?

  • And to think: Michelangelo hated painting.

  • @youcef thts the biggest point. he initially hated painting and still this

  • It wasn't too bad when I was there. The visitors were respectful and I had a good amount of time to sit and look up. I would have enjoyed laying on the floor and looking up, but then I would have been escorted out...LOL

  • And to think 1 man in his 20's standing 20 meters in the air for about 8 years painted all of this on fresco. God bless Michelangelo.

  • HINT for anyone wishing to take pictures/film:

When i was here with my college, i was sitting down, i had my camera on my lap and took pictures, No-one noticed :P

  • I wouldn't reccomend filming inside as we saw an American guy getting escorted out for trying to take pics when we were there...the guards had to tell everyone to be quiet as some people were laughing and shouting...idiots...you got away with filming though and the result is nice...brings back memories....beautiful city...I hope to return.

  • Thank you so much for this post! Beautiful! God Bless!!

  • how were you able to film in there?

  • My God, everywhere you go people use flash photography when not supposed to do so. If you visit a Church and photography is not allowed, then don't. These paintings are unique and must be protected at all costs. Buy a book if you want to see the work. I saw a woman thrown out of the Schonbrunn in Vienna for taking photographs. I had to resist taking a swing at her, stupid bitch. Go and enjoy, be amazed but respect the rules. Quite simple really!

  • I went there 3 days ago, totally packed, no photos allowed, no sitting on steps either, it was total silence.

  • That's because it's a bloody chapel!!!!!!!!!!! Go to Disney World if you want Donald Duck & burgers.

  • Thanks to cinema, you also get the impression that Charlton Heston is up there on his back painting it.

  • Thank you for the video. When I went 5 years ago, it took us 7 years to save for the 5 of us to travel. We get there and the summer crowds were very large, I felt like moving cattle. We were not allowed to stand but were to told to keep moving. I agree, no camera photos, but the video is surely great.

  • i went there last summer

no photo no video no talking

    but it was amazing

    i cryed

  • see the miracles!

    mostholyfamilymonastery (dot) com / watch_our_videos_3 (dot)php

  • I fear mightily for the Sistine Chapel! What if Pope Darth Benedict will become insane? The danger is not little: Darth Benedict fought in his youth for the tyrant Hitler in an anti-aircraft unit and what if he still has one of those mighty 8,8 flak guns and tries to shoot down god from the church ceiling in his angry mood?

  • my kids and i are in awe of the size and beauty of the whole piece! Thanks for sharing!

  • you're not allowed to film in there ;) i was there 3 days ago

  • @xXLilleWilleXx Can i take photos there?

  • @ViciousCritique Sorry, can't remember, don't think so... it's worth taking ur camera with u.

  • @ViciousCritique No, you can not, the Sistine Chapel is the only place in the Vatican museums where it is banned. In all the other places there is no problem, just remember that the rooms with paintings and frescos require a good bright lens and a sensitive film cos, you can;t use flash.

  • @ViciousCritique

NO........you are not allowed to take fotos for a reason ,,,nor are u allowed to film it ,,,,yet anytime i was there ,,the rules were broken by damn rude ignorant americans,,,,,who have NO respect

  • @xXLilleWilleXx I was there two days ago. I think they changed the rules as I see several flashes and I don't here "shhhhhhhhhhhh!" or "clap clap".

  • @EendjeKwak since i was there 2 years ago, they might have changed the rules

  • @xXLilleWilleXx Haha, because your comment was the top comment, I thought it was a comment of today.

  • @EendjeKwak nope ^^

  • My cousin paid for a cruise for my mum, and she saw this. Thank you MIchael, Thank you! Privelidge!

  • so beautiful amazing ! thank you

  • Plus the PA system... its louder in person and ya think it would knock the paint off the walls. That's my concern with trying to "preserve" the art. The vibration and the old paint probably equals more restoration. lol

I remember the "no photo"guy, but that day he was shorter than 6 feet. ^^

  • i was there last summer and i cannot argue gthat it was amazing, but i will never forget the 7 foot tall man n the middle screaming "NO PHOTO!!!"

  • Oh and thank you for posting this video, I watched it a couple of times out of excitement before I went on my trip; and when I saw the real deal I felt like I had already been there because of this video.

  • I got to see the Sistine Chapel this summer, it was awe-inspiring. It was so packed and so hot that some people in my group were feeling faint. I could've taken pictures, but I would've felt guilty and I want The Sistine Chapel to last as long as possible. I have the memory and the life experience. :)

  • OH MY GOD ITS BEAUTIFUL

  • wow i didnt know it looked so... colourful. amazing though.

  • from 0:10 to 0:26, if you spot someone's hiney, it's god's but XD

michelangelo was mad at the pope so he put all kinds of offensive stuff

still a magnificent work of art though

  • well the church was kind of mean in medieval times but

    there good now

  • this church did not exist in the medieval times

  • no i didnt mean this church i ment like the papal state church where the ope lived

  • aa...got it now, sorry.

  • He wasnt mad at the Pope, your facts are wrong. He was mad at a Cardinal who didnt want someone from the laity painting.

  • obscene.

  • The lack of reverence is pathetic at all turns. Photography of any kind is not allowed. I just had a private tour in January, and "The Italians" wouldn't have time to go off on all the people that ignore the flash rule. I don't mind sneaking photos at museums, but doing so in a consecrated place seems wrong. There are many pictures and films of it, why anyone feels the need to shoot there evades me. Unless you're standing there looking at it, a photo is just another photo. Respect it please.

  • @painxtreme There's nothing about the setting, when I was there a few days ago, that is reverent. The guards shouting "No photo!" "Silence!" and the crowds being herded around hardly suggest reverence. A video-camera isn't going to make it any worse. Perhaps your private tour was after-hours and your experience was different, but during museum hours, the place is crowded and the guards are surly and loud.

  • @Absydion Regardless of how guards behave, it is my own personal reverence for the place that guides me in such decisions. Guards, visitors and other noises and bumps are a nuisance, but I dont allow those things to sully my experience.

  • @painxtreme Indeed! Thus, video cameras are no problem for you.

  • @Absydion Disrespect is the problem I have with it. It doesn't change my experience at all, and I am all about live and let live, but it comes down to bounds of reason. Why is a picture you took of it any different than all the professional photos taken of the frescoe? You cant pose with it. Its being there thats the thing, You can google countless images as a memory without ignoring their wishes.

Which is ruder. if i ask you not to fart in my house, or if you go ahead and fart continuously?

  • @painxtreme That's a curious metaphor, since one has limited control over farting. Anyhow, my point was that even if I wanted to treat the place as reverent, I could not do so because of the way the guards were conducting everything. There was no sense of reverence. I could not appreciate the chapel because of them, not the tourists. They wouldn't even let us stand and look up; we had to keep moving. Other tourists taking pictures or video were hardly disturbing by comparison.

  • @Absydion I had just asked my son to get off my hospital bed for farting just as I typed that, sorry.

Wow, it sounds like it was truly a lousy experience for you. That's very unfortunate, Im sorry to hear that. It was much different when I went, but again, I think on private tours, the don't let the chapel get that full. Sounds like you had some guards who don't like their job. I am sorry about that, what a way to ruin what should be an awe inspiring viewing. Did you travel from the US?

  • and ii i i ttttalk lllike tthis in socia social budd buddies class

    yyyyay

    mi mi mishel anggelo

  • you want to see italian people go ape shit... use flash on your camera in there and youll find out

  • lol why, and what happens ..?

  • Well, flash has been proven to fade paint. Do you really think the Italians are going to be happy when they need to repaint THE WHOLE THING after you used a single flash? :P

  • The place would be worth more if he'd done it in beige.

  • amazing, only GOD was behind this man

  • great vid! thanx alot, since i don't think i'll be able to go there ever, thanx again!

  • When did you take this video? I don't see how it's recent since everyone's cameras are flashing and you're taking a nice, slow video without being tackled.

  • when i went people were taking pictures, it was more of an encouragement not to take pictures. if you were taking one directly in front of security they just told you not too.

  • il + grande tra i grandi: MICHELANGELO

  • why do people call it the 16th chapel, there has to be a reason it's referred to as that.

  • Is the Sistine Chapel!! you moron!

  • Gee, really dipshit? I had no fuckin idea! thanks for pointing out what the world already fucking knew retard. Now go back and read my question, or here, do an expieriment, if you know what that is. pull up a search engine, your smart, you should know what that is genius, and type in "16th chapel" and see what pops up. My question is, why is it referred to as the 16th chapel, it's wrong, but if you say it, everyone knows what your referring to. That was my question jackass.

  • it was named after a pope: Sixto, that is why it's the "sixtine" chapel. :o)

  • Comment removed

  • Actually ... that's exactly how it got it's name - from Pope Sixtus around 1480. For the same reason it is called "Die Sixtinische Kapelle" in German and "Det Sixtinske Kapel" in Danish. However, the official English name is (oddly enough) "The Sistine Chapel".

  • @mookaball UMM, I am an Art History PROFESSOR, and from extensive restudy in many private tours of the Chapel, and the Apostolic Palace, as well as a lifetime of reading, I can assure you it is named for Pope Sixtus, and if it is the X in Sixtus that is making this impossible for you to understand, perhaps another degree

field is in order for you.

Think this way, if it helps. Caeser=Czar=Kaiser. Languages modify spellings, it's that simple.

  • Comment removed

  • @aggintad It is named after Pope Sixtus. Though it was hilarious to leave that question standing there alone.

  • I really wanted to take some pictures just that i could show my family since there are so into catholicism, and well postal are not the same. Well at least they let you film the the cathedral, i went to london, and they would not let you take pictures of st paul's cathedral and the westminter abbey. again it is not about being disrespectful but memories can only do so much and again , i would rather take a picture than having to buy a postal. thanks

  • I agree, I took pictures and was told not to so but I didn`t use flash and I didn`t behave unapropietly, besides, I was proprely dressed too. Everyone should be allowed to at least film the place.

  • @IEC83 Ive thought that a few times too, but how many pictures of all of these works are online to print out, for sale as prints, in books? Pretty much all of them, and so I asked myself, why is a pic I took more significant than any of those I have access to already. I feel unless you need a pic to prove you were somewhere, its the actual "being there, experiencing it in person" aspect that makes it what it is, otherwise there would be no need to go there.

  • I was there las week and yes the guards do not let you take pictures and videos and i really wanted to do so.

  • Yes and it kind of wrecks it doesnt it? Your lucky you werent singled out and then shown the door as myself and my girlfriend were. I wont ever go back there again.

  • Wow, really? I went there this past wednesday and there were many people taking pictures, there was one guard that rudly came to me and said "camera off" ,I got scared but nothing more happened..I called him idiot behing his back hehe...Anyways, I`m so sorry you had to go through such thing!..But you know how Italian cops are, they are a mess!My husband was also mistreated by a cop when we came inside the Vatican for the Pope`s audience...But anyways, the whole experience was awesome!

  • i was there 3 weeks ago, and one bloke came up and took my camera off me, turned it off and put it in my pocket.......... i honestly thought he was gunna delete my pics.

  • Ah, irony.

So you can't follow some basic rules, you get escorted out, get your panties in a wad, and now you won't go back. Good for you.

  • Well Einstein.Seems Im not alone in not following the basic rules. And the fact that this video exists means that somebody else didnt follow the rules. Yup good for me. Why would I go back? Italians should earn to respect the hands that feed them.

  • what happened to "NO FOTO" as the guards put it lol but it was absolutely amazing

  • Thanks for the video. I was wondering what it looked like in there..

  • The Last Judgement is WAY bigger than I thought!!! That is just amazing

  • The middle one.....isn't that God's creation of David? sorry for asking i sound stupid....just refreshing my memory

  • Its "creation of man" so yeah :)

  • "God creates Adam" or "Creation of Adam". I've seen it called either.

    potato potato really

  • I dont understand what all the noise is? I just returned from there and no one was permitted to speak, you had to remove your hat and you definately could not take photos or videos, there were guards everywhere. This was just last week, maybe they have changed things.

  • i also been there in september.

the guard were like "tssshhhhh" all the time and lookind for people not to take videos and pix

  • Looks beautiful!

  • the italian genius

  • shame on you shame on you .You had no respect for the chapel or the people who specifically told you NOT to take pictures or use any video equipment. There is a reason why they ask yu to do this and yet in your "wisdom" you ignored and disobeyed it.Shame on you

  • Why dont you make the journey yourself and see if you can resist the urge to film in it once your in there.Everybody was taking pics. Im sorry but the Vatican should accept that people will take pics regardless. But then the Vatican doesnt know its arse from its face anyway.

  • Philster61,

I have been there twice. I will be there again next month. I noticed the people taking pictures and the noise. It didn't matter. I don't look to others to explain my behavior.

The Vatican does accept that some people will take pictures. If they didn't, your camera would have never made it inside.

  • I mustve caught them on an acceptance off day.Cos there were people all around me snapping pics.I took 2 and then was targeted for removal.Came within a hairs breadth of punching the security guard.Well its something of a legend amongst my friends at the moment.I still have my rebellious streak in me.LOL.Getting kicked out of the Sistine chapel.haha.

  • Hey Sparky,

Clearly you missed the point. If the Vatican was adamant about you not taking pictures, security would not have allowed you to take in your camera.

But the Vatican obviously is not adamant. They also understand that some of the visitors are morons that cannot follow the simplest of instructions.

    It's been fun.

  • Well sunshine clearly this video show somebody breaking the rules and filming inside the Sistine chapel. Clearly the Vatican looses money by people taking photos and not buying their pictures.Tell me how many photos you have taken in your visits to the Sistine.

  • Anyay Iggy Im calling a truce cos I dont really have any argument with you over this. You werent the one who selected me and my girlfriend out of hundreds of people who were also taking photos and then escorted me out.I wish you all the best on your next trip to the Sistine.I wont ever visit it myself again as there are far more interesting places to see in Rome.

  • The images and doc-films of this is everywhere. TO BE in there is another thing. I think it worth the money and the patience to enter. It's amazing. Not only an image but an experience.

  • Its an over rated experience. What really destroys is the attitude of the security guards towards the general public. If hey are so tolerant of cameras being in there then they must be aware of the fact that people will use them once their in there.

  • This is again another matter. I think that this attitude has to due with security problem or some old-aged rule when was known that flashlights (over and over) destroys paintings. The same rules in Louvre (about 15y ago). Let's not forget that now the Pity is under a 2inch thick glass because a MAD man use a HAMMER on it!!!! Anyway, i agree that there's no serious reason to be so cautious in Sistine.

  • The distance from the flash to the ceiling itself wouldnt have any effect whatsoever. What damaged and degraded the painting in the first place was decades of incense rising up and blackening it. That would do far more damage than flash. Besides now with modern cameras you dont need to use flash. You can just adjust the settings digitally. I maintain that they just want the public to buy their cheap tacky postcards.

  • damn your a badass. wait, you have friends?

  • Yes.None of which are religious.Which is great

  • you know god hates you right?

  • God hates everybody.Havent you ever read the bible? Besides I dont believe there is a biblical God. that cancels out that argument.Although historically there have been over 2000 official Gods so I got more of a choice than the boring self indulgent one that you got.I could name some real fun Gods for you to choose though.

  • i just want to know.... if your not impressed by the sistine chapel then what does interest you?

  • Everyone else is so irreverent? Did the Church ask you not to film inside the Church? You couldn't respect their wishes? Pictures of the ceiling are available everywhere. There was no need to not respect the wishes of the Church and treat the Chapel with the respect requested.

  • They didnt mind respectfully taking money off me though. This medieval Institutional relic deserves about as much respect as their pedophile priests deserve to be pardoned.

  • Hey, Killer.

    In response to:

"They didnt mind respectfully taking money off me though. This medieval Institutional relic deserves about as much respect as their pedophile priests deserve to be pardoned. "

You gave the pedophile priests your hard earned money to see a medieval institutional relic.

    Sucker.

  • Tell me about it.Guess all the hype Ive had over the years didnt prepare me for the reality check of what the Vatican is actually about.........money

  • Obviously, you're an idiot.

  • Nowhere near as idiotic as Catholicism.

  • So still prepared to base your sole existence on the advise of celibate (supposedly) isolated old men who base their existence on the most weirdest book in history? Guess thinking for yourself is a but too dangerous huh?

  • I"m catholic but I've never been to Sistine chapel..I hope One day I could go there.Thx for sharing the vid

  • Im an ex catholic.Thank god

  • THANKS...This is really beautiful.

  • And quit bitching about the walk and the heat, you sound like a goddamn girl scout

  • It is disrespectful you fucking tool bags. I traveled there recently, the flash ruins the artwork. it is one of the most renowned artworks of the High Renaissance. It took Michaelangelo years and years to paint it, he almost went blind doing it. If you want to see pictures go check some out taken by professional photographers. theres no need to take your own

  • I bet you snapped one anyway.Youd be fucking lying if you didnt.

  • So how many pics did you take then?

  • Disrespectful?

I dont think it would be disrespectful because it is showing off a work of art to anyone that cannot witness something like that.

  • Disrespectful????.After standing in line in 35 degree heat for an hour. After 14 euros entrance. And after a 2.5 kilometre walk through the museum with no air conditioning or liquids. You arent even allowed to take one photo. Its the fucking Vatican and its backward thinking staff who are disrespectful towards its customers.I was there last week. What an over rated peice of trash.Michelangelo painted a ceiling.Big Fucking deal.

  • wow your a fucking dip shit. i hope you die young

  • spoken like the true Christian you obviously are.Another lower intelligent life form with nothing to say.

  • i didnt know you had to be religious to appreciate art?

  • You dont. What you have to be is prepared to kiss the Vaticans ass.

  • ur not even supposed 2 talk in there. ur not allowed 2 film or take pics, thats so disrespectful!

  • they coverd up the nude parts but when the chapel was rstored they were able to restore it to how it was when michealangelo first painted it which took off all the extra leaves covering up the nude.

  • Why would they cover them up, I mean 2000 thousand years ago in Jesus's time period they couldnt drive over to JCPennys and pick out a fashionable outfit. And just in case you didnt know, I am a catholic. In that time period a lot of people went around town naked simply because they could not afford cloths. My favorite painting on the sistine is "The Creation of Man" the look of God giving life to Adam is so beautiful.

  • My favorite has to be (typical) the last judgment

  • WHy would they cover them up? For the same reason that if you go to the Vatican today, you have to cover your shoiulders and knees. We dont want to tempt those priests into naughty sexual thoughts now do we.They might wanna play hide the sausage with the altar boys.

  • these paintings are so beautiful... michealangelo was a very talented man.. but did u ever notice he always sculpts and paints people naked?

  • Yes, actually, the catholic church thought nude paintings were a sin and hired another painter to "cover" up all od Michaelangelo's work where there is nudity

  • The guy they commissioned to cover up all the 'obscene' parts was forever known as the "underwear painter"

  • from michaelangelo's notes he left he did not enjoy painting the chapel he even quit once the current pope at the time acually humbled himself in asking him to return .he did return to finish it after finally being paid after working for almost a year with no pay.but he was a sculpter at heart which is the main reason he did not enjoy this work.he also complained of the terrible neck pain it created from always looking upward.still a beautiful master piece.

  • terrible neck pain, hell i would quit after the first image

  • i cant beleive michaelangelo did this all by himself!!!!! i would love to go there someday

  • no actually he was helped by artists that were selected to paint the walls

  • has anyone else ever noticed the problem with the picture of adam reaching out to god? well, adam has a naval which he couldnt have if he was the 1st man

  • how did u do this? when i tried to take a video armed guards took my camera

  • wen i went there we werent able to film or take pics
