  • What if the red baron flew a f-22? That would be OP as shit

  • i bet not one person has pointed out the red baron didnt fly in a triplane and HIS PLANE WASNT EVEN RED

  • @villagepizza2 he flew a triplane for his last 20 victories.

  • lol the last word the red baron said when they found him in his planes wreckage was "CAPUT" LOL!!!!!!

  • Von Richtofen was downed by Australian ground fire...that's the fact of the matter.

This is a cool video though.

  • Brown is still attribured with Von Richtofen's downing. Revisionist theories 60+ years after Browns death haven't changed that. If Brown was American instead of Canadian I suspect it would be one of the most indesputable facts in military history that the Red Baron was downed by the aircraft! :)

  • @Yamieguy64

    Lol, true.

  • Beautiful flying replica. It doesn't have the original style rotary engine, but then, it is much more reliable with a radial instead. Check out my Red Baron song on the "BicyclingGuitarist" channel here on YouTube. The lyrics and images are historically accurate, and the song ROCKS! I wrote it on a bicycle, lol.

  • I wonder what Richtofen and Voss and all the other WW1 pilots would think of aviation today if they were still alive (there are a couple ww1 veterans still alive). I mean Jets, missles, computer guidance etc.

  • @Daniel39363

They'd probably love the ejector seats.

And they'd also probably think that not using a machine gun to shoot down ones enemy, rather using some computer and radar guided missiles to shoot down and enemy one doesn't even have visual of and who often doesn't even have a chance to shoot back would be "ungentlemanlike" and "cheating".

Markmanship was critical in WWI and that required good flying skills. No computers or other things helping the pilot like today.

  • @McLarenMercedes todays weaponry is trying to eliminate the "game of death"

  • How many planes did he shot down?

  • he shot down 81, or at least 81 recorded

  • no, he was credited with 80 kills. His main contribution was as a leader and as a teacher.

  • who actully killed the red baron will always be debated .

but it can never be debated who gave him a military funeral with honour like a hero he was rather then let him rot on the battlefield.

  • @tyrantbad He was given a military funeral by the brittish because he and many other ww1 pilots had honor.

the red baron flew for competition not for killing

  • @jayc981 soz,jay ur wrong Australians recovered the body and also gave him a full military funeral,u can check the real footage on you tube if you like, thats if you know your uniforms of WW1 weyou'll see they were Australians.

  • Fokker dr.1 <3!!!!

  • The comment about the ground gunner's round caliber is correct, but it is also true that the aircraft very often used the same caliber ammo. IF this were not the case it'd be a simple matter to determine if the Aussie gunner killed Richtofen. I believe he did and not Brown.

I think his head wound contributed to his poor judgement on his final flight. Which in earlier times he would not have made the mistakes he made on this flight.

    A legend in any case.

  • wooooooooo go aussie soldiers for shooting him down

  • you idiot dont go and spam something witch aint right. Roy Brown and Raymond Collishaw May, killed the red baron both canadians...

  • the bullet that killed him had upward motion that suggest it came on the ground so either from Cedric Popkin or W.J Evans so go get your facts right and if u dont believe me look it up

  • True!.. It was a .303 Bullet.. none of the Planes carried this caliber.. Just ground Rifles.. a single shot and a heck of a lucky one!

  • it could also have come from some rifleman on that ground, as it wasn't too uncommon they took a few shots on the airplanes

in some cases ordinary riflemen did down aircraft by getting a lucky shot on them

let's just say that everybody recognized the red plane of the baron, and had him in their sights from the ground

  • How did von Richthofen died? Natural, plane accident, Killed in action?

  • he was killed in action in april 1918, by either a canadian fighter pilot, or a austraillian machine gunner (both are up for debate)

  • Its really cool a guy at my school is related to him. What a small world!!

  • who The red 'Baron' ore Roy?

  • was it 138 kills ,? he shot down

  • Manfred Von Richtofen got 80 kills i think, if that is who your talkin bout

  • 80 confirmed kills, but probably more than 100 in total.

  • ya probley

  • The Germans were pretty efficient with their confirmation process, so I doubt he had much more that 80 actual kills, including unconfirmed. In fact I know one of his DH2 kills was probably James McCudden, who actually was spinning as a ruse, recoveringto fly home and score a further 56 kills. So...who knows. 80 official :).

  • yea lol

  • Awsome! He's right, it couldn't get any better.

  • Wind, noise, smoke, you can actually smell and see the ground terrain below you... it still sends goose bumps around your arms... its um thrilling... I get this everytime I drive my beat up shot out old 83 turbo zcar to the grocery store.

  • this is a great video. awesome plane. but the baron was killed by a .303 rifle round shot from an Australian infantry soldier named Snowy Evans. it was one shot and it went through his ride side and out his left. what is the cost of a vintage craft like this?

  • Is this video a documentary ? What's its name ?

  • the red baron wasnt shot down by a pilot but a mounted gun on the ground

  • @csenkb Well that's actually a very big debate that has been going on for a while

  • @csenkb wrong, he was shot down by billy bishop. he didnt die from being shot by the canadian, but from the impact of the crash

  • beautiful...

  • Great Vid, Love the war birds

  • According to the numbers, there were no other pilots as good as the baron, and no pilot ever brought him down, and unless that aussie did in April 21, 1918 no pilot ever would have.

  • didnt win the crouts the war though did he

  • tard

  • A Captain Cunnell from 20 squadron RFC injured him badly enough on the 6th July 1917 to claim himself a victory.Richtofen was forced to land because of a head wound.

  • Acanadian shot him up bad enough that he crashed into the ground but an austrialian MG gunner was shooting at them during the fight

  • Actually the only bullet to pierce his plane was at an upward angle...since in entered his body around his left kidney and exited near his right nipple. So...Roy Brown may have shot at him in his Camel, but he didn't hit him. It is pretty obviously a round from the Aussie troops. Roy fired downward and from behind, while troops were shooting upward from the side....the latter being the angle of the hit.

  • And Ernst Udet, Max Immelmann...

  • Thank you fzr2, I was having a brain spazm there and forgot about the other pilots, I forgot their names.

    ~Ted

  • That's ok we all have those spasms, usually vodka induced in my case!

  • me gusta mucho que avion es ? un Fokker DR. 1 ?

  • si or watever you say yep its a fokker plane

  • Pero tiene un motor moderno no? porque los cilindros están fijos, segun se el del fokker dr 1 los cilindros giraban junto con la helice.

como sea es un avion muy hermoso, que suerte la de su piloto no? :)

  • im sorry i dont realy understand repete n french or english je parle francais et englais

  • Forgive me.

I saw that apparently the engine is new, because his cylinders are static, as according to me, the cylinders of the old fokker dr 1 they were turning close to the helix.

    But maybe I am wrong.

Still this way , it is a very beautiful plane, his pilot must be lucky

Regards from chile ( sorry my english)

  • ok thanks lol

  • locma...You are right, the engine was a 9 cylinder rotary...used a mix of wood alcohol and caster bean oil for fuel.

  • The coments on this video sums up the awesome experience and adventure of flying, well done.

  • Excellent clip, wish there was more.

  • great plane made by antony fokker dutchmen

  • Great! One gets the feeling of freedom in the air!! 5 starz!!

  • The Dr1 had some flaws.Sure it could climb well but its triplane configuration resulted in bigger drag too and slowed the plane down. The pilot had limited vision too because of the wings.Had not the Red Baron flown one I doubt it would be as well remembered.

  • Great model it looks exactly like Richtofen's original Bi - plane minus the scorecard of course.

  • if it has 3 wings its a triplane or as the germans called it "dreidecker"
