  • i dont have any friends :/

  • No sorry Syl died 16th December 1988 not June 12th

  • loved him live...love him dead:)

  • So nice!!! I had only heard his dance music, never a ballad. I hear overtones of Aretha in his voice. Love it!

  • Love Miss Sylvester!

  • This is my favorite song. So inspirational. I first heard it maybe in the 80's i believe. My aunt had the album and I heard this that one day and never forgot it that's how powerful this song was to me. Here i am in 2012 still wanting to listen to it and listening. Yes, Patti made it and it was good but Sylvester and Two Tons Of fun just took it there. Thx Patti because of you we were able to hear sylvester power in this song along with 2 tons of fun.

  • This song is so powerful. You can go your whole life searching for something only to find out that what you were seeking was in your face all the time. Once you get on the "Merry go round" of life you only find out what you have been missing when you get off. Things were so much simpler when these people were singing. Now things have become so much more over complicated by the need of the industry to make a profit. This holds true for every thing up to this date 2012 it seems.

  • THE VERY BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG HANDDDDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Xclusivenig9a No question this is the very best ,and the original version. I love Patti, but swhe can not match the pwoer of these singers. Martha, and Izora punctuated the message behind what Sylvester is relaying in this song.

  • @QWIKSTRIKE I agree. But I would not suggest that Sylvester crafted this gem, as Patti's version came out in 1977. But in all, Sylvesterand 2TONS own this!!!! ownnnnn this!

  • @Xclusivenig9a

You are correct I stand corrected, Patti, and Armstrong Edwards wrote this together

  • Hey! That is no way to say good bye when sung by Sylvester was what Leonard Cohen intended it to be.

  • He had a beautiful soulful voice ...my mother OD'd on him but i loved it...got him in my ipod now

  • This song Reminds you. That your siblings, your spouse, your parents and GOD! Is truly a FRIEND!!!!!!! PRAISE GOD! THIS IS THE TRUTH! SHOUT OUT TO LADY L!

  • True gift is from God and he was a gift a person can live a long life and never live life to the fullest , he work very hard thats me and kids an listen to his music like this i liked him when pass away I was 18 yrs old a young woman then ,I'M glad of you tube .

  • i dont care if he was gay...sylvester was good. : )

  • I remember this song....brings back a lot of memories. Patti did a great job on this, BUT Sylvester did better! Heard it the other day on the "Quiet Storm !"

  • What he was saying was so real, no matter what

  • Sylvester James, not James Sylvester...

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! HIS VERSION IS JUST AS SPECIAL AS PATTI'S BUT VERY DIFFERENT REASONS! BUT THEY'RE EQUAL TO ME! I MET HIM ONCE WHEN I WAS TEENAGER AND HE COULNT HAVE BEEN NICER. R.I.P. SYLVESTER! YOU ARE MY FRIEND!

  • How could anyone not like this soul stirring performance???? Two people don't have friends nor a soul!

  • Those were the days, what a performer

  • THESE WOMAN CAN SING!

  • Nice video

  • My favorite song ever by Sylvester!

  • A great talent, great entertainer, one of a kind...thank God for him and we are blessed he shared that talent with the world.....

  • This is about Slyvester. His voice was anointed by "God." For all those who have ridiculed this man, for being gay, made him a more determine person to sing his music! I appreciate the musical legacy he left behind. He was talented and unique with the style he chose in his music. When ever I hear him sing, it just stops me in my tracks. It is like, "wow" listen to the voice. RIP Slyvester!

  • Izora sent me ovah

  • Ive Been With My Gf For Almost 4 Years August 17th..And To See & Hear Is Story Just Brightens My Heart & Soul..To Hear The Love In His Music & To Feel The Love Back From His Fans Is Amazing..I Would Have Love To Have Known Or Even Met Him Back Then..Its People Like Sylvester Who Made It Possible For Me & The Rest Of The LGBT Communty..For Our Gay Rights & Respect,,& We Will Continue To Fight For Our Rights..We Love & Miss You Sylvester..GOD Is With You..

  • UNSUNG IS THE SHIT!!!

  • This man is amazing! He died a year before I was born so you'll have to cut me some slack on not knowing who he was...

  • I also saw unsung...enjoyed his story very much..

  • After watching his story on Unsung, I appreciate this diva even more! God placed him on this earth for a short while and we should be thankful that he graced the planet and make it fabulous and paved the way for many others. Never be ashamed to live out loud! <3

  • @zulunurse2009 i just finished watching the show too an almost and hour ago and cant seem to find this one song i really love, i have no idea of the name but its a slow song, i think they started playing this song around 1030 something pacific time, i did watch sylvester unsung a few yrs ago but each time is see it i get all choked up

  • @tiana1017 Cant Forget the Love

  • saw his story tonight n tears such a great singer

  • These Three were put together by God. Sylvester, what can I say, that haunting voice sounds like a millions gospel choirs singing. Sending Chills through the body of anyone who heard him hit a note. R.I.P.

  • All I will say is this is a Classic !

  • Im a huge Patti fan but all i can say is damn they sang the heck out of that song. I luv it!!!

  • i love patti.... but this version is betta......

  • This without a doubt is one of the greatest live performances i have ever heard. It is absolutely timeless. It will be just as powerful and revelant as it is today a 100 years from now.

  • These women really can sang yall and dats includin Miss Sylvester.

Hearing this gives me soooo much energy...it makes me cry, laugh and holla.

There is nothing like the crowds participation...the emotion on stage and off is fo real yall, authentic love energy backed with some serious talent....thank God for Sylvester, Martha and Isora...they really do love each other...and "I will not forget it"

  • @positiveposition

Let me tell you something..Are you listening/reading this here? Between 4:17 & 7:05 is some of the most powerful Soul Singing captured on Record! Their isn't any solo artist or group no matter who they maybe or have been (And their where & are still some badd ones out there!) That could have took the stage that night and stood up to what Ms.Martha Wash & Ms. Izora Rhodes belted out in just a few short minutes!

  • @ESSENCEOFEACHTHING

You must know music, you took the words right out of my mouth. This is what I call singin'.

  • @ESSENCEOFEACHTHING The Clark Sisters whould have tore this sing up!!

  • @SuperJan1989

Can you reference me some good emotional performances by them?

  • @positiveposition

All I'm saying is..After this recording..If they take to the stage and request the Mic..Your gonna give it to them.Their shouldn't be any questions involved. And faces should be straight.

  • A movie should be made about Sylvester's life. I think Jacob Lusk would be perfect for the part. It would be like Jennifer Hudson performing in Dreamgirls. both singers didn't win American Idol, but went on to do bigger things and were successful.

He has the perfect voice and looks to pull it off... doh't you think???

  • @ 1:57 dammm !!

  • when Izora come in wit "I BEEN LOOKIN" give me goose bump

  • such a beautiful song

  • correct me if im wrong but didnt he die in december not june

  • This is what heaven sounds like. Pure, Simple, Brilliant.

  • singing dude!

  • I miss him so much. I was a disco diva in the 70s. I was a student at fashion school and loved to get dressed up and dance on Thursdays and get up a 8:00 for classes. I loved doing the hustle and all the other couples dances. This was a happy time for music, fun, and folly at the clubs.

  • i love this song they really did sang this song

  • Oh Sylvester... with the voice of an angel! This song makes me cry... Why do all the great performers leave us way too early? But Thank You Lord for giving us Jacob Lusk...

  • Oh How I remember Sylvester. In the late 70's I fell in love with his singing. I worked with Izora Rhodes at UCSF and she invited me to come to one of their concerts. I was 21 at the time and had a 2nd job working at a new club Divisidero St in SF called Disco Heat, when he came in. I was a waiter and served his table. He was a generous tipper. When he passed away we lost an Icon for the Disco era.

  • I WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN THEM PERFORM THIS SONG................. I would have never..... stop talking about it. I love this song !!!!! I will always love it....... It makes you feel so thankful for your friends and the people that have been there for you time after time, they were there all the time. XOXO New York

  • FIERCE!!! Sylvester, did a version or cover I don't know what it was........of Diana Ross's "Love Hangover" I heard it was better than Diana's but, she got more airplay 'cos of who she was respectfully......I would love to hear Sylvester's version it seems he's finally getting his PROPS!!!

  • @DKF76 U don't. I'm not gay and i knew Sylvester was the truth. I heard this song growing up and never forgot it. That's how powerful this song was to me. Loved it then and love it know.

  • ...Sylvester was gender confused. The black community didn't embrace him. He was stigmatized and ostricized....We didn't accept his talent until after he was gone.....only a few close friends new all of the truth........

  • @philburrell ...you must be talking about the "straight" black community....you know, there are alot of gay black people (imagine that !!) and the rest of the gay "community" did embrace him, revered him and still do (so that's millions of "us" who "knew the whole truth"........

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE Sylvester!!!

  • THIS IS THE SONG

  • I sitting here crying tears of gratitude. I am a follower of Christ and recovering person. I listened to his music under the influence and it made me feel so free. It touched places I did not know I had. I was so empty and devoid of God's presense. I've been sober since 1989, praise God!, one day at a time. Jesus, You Are My Friend. I been looking around and You've been there all of time. I did everthing out there. By Your Grace and Mercy, I still here. Thank God, Sylvester RIP.

  • Sylvester I Will Always Love You for This!!!! You've MADE me Feel Miiiiighty Real Baby

  • Nights at the" City " night club ,off of Broadway in San Francisco, working with him,was a favorite time of this mans life.Michael Lyons , Peter, Joe,Johnny, all the men at the cabaret downstairs, with all the great times upstairs on the dance floor.

What a sweet voice and the Man could PARTY...

  • These women can sing y'all !

  • Before RuPaul, there was Sylvester. The original Eleganza Extravaganza!!

  • he sang the shit out of that..i always wanna cry wen i hear his soul pour out....work it miss thing!

  • I loved Sylvester and Two Ton's O Fun.The only concert I ever went to at Madison Square Garden was to see them perform,I think it was 1980 +/- a year and to top off the night or I should say" After Hours" since the club "Melons" was a hot after hours club at the time, where we eventually would end up to dance and party til long after the sun came up, but best of all Two Tons O Fun showed up and sang which really made the whole experience "exceptional". In the top 10 best of memories of the era.

  • ((( LOVE YOU SYLVESTER ))) SPIRIT LIVES 4EVER :)

  • I really hope Martha puts soul music like this back into her set. She is still here but she is so much more than dance/club music.

Peace to all his family and friends. 2 tons of fun, always remind me of their missing Diva.

  • Greetings. I heard this song for the first time via TVONE's Unsung Documentary. He was so advanced for his time and took a stand to accept me as I am or keep it moving. Regardless of his lifestyle, who are we to judge and at the end of the day, he made beautiful music. R.I.P.

i just saw the "unsung" show about his life and career. it's showing on the TV1

    network.

Please note I put a space in the url for . and com Youtube tends to not let you put links in comments

  • There is no other like Sylvester. Can sing better than any man/woman I know and was always true to himself and others whether you agreed or not.

He will truly be missed but not forgotten...especially if we keep this song in our cache' of tunes. This songs brings me to tears because I can definitely feel a connection in my heart when I hear it.

    Dtheexec

  • Great Montage of Sylvester!! Excellent photos!

  • This man is so gay, He's really is gay, but its ok, I guest, GOOD MUSIC tho!

  • Yes he is, and he chose to be flamboyant with it. If you have a problem, why listen to it?? i'm confused?? LOL, go listen to some rap!

  • @DonMFZEE he was amazing artist.

  • @DonMFZEE what the hell is the point of your comment?

  • @jeminijemini My bad, RIP Sylvester! And we str8 like that!!

  • Until we can learn to accept people for who they are regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and other things that really don't amount to a hill of beans in this world, we will never evolve as human beings. We must learn to love each other and celebrate diversity instead of poking fun at it and resorting to violence and other disgraceful behavior brought on by misunderstanding and often self-hatred.

  • The reason all their voices sung so strong and it just get right into the chill of your bone, is because they all came up in the Church on the choir which trains your voices. Bring all your talents and gifts to the Lord and he will cultivate it for you. There is room for everyone regardless to who you are. God loves you. People outside that door worrying about the church folks are allowing the "devil" to rob them of their joy. R.I.P Sylvester

  • AMEN!!!!!

  • @AveIvy Bless your heart! Don't let the "devil" still your joy regardless, of who people in society wants you to be. It's all about "Gods creation" .. He can use anyone in any form of fashion..

  • The Best!!!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks so very much for posting this, I've been looking for this version of this song for years!

  • Remarkable indeed! No matter what is said about his Homosexuality, Sylvester left beautiful music behind, that I will always appreciate. He had an incredible vocal range and personality to match. His feelings were displayed on each song he delivered to his audience. RIP

  • what was said about it?? (his lifestyle) i would like 2 know.

  • i was a dj at the time and that was one of my last songs i'd play at the end of the party, hell of a voice

  • He was simply remarkable...and i would have given anything to see him and Patti LaBelle perform this together - can u imagine!
