Why the hell Thomas Jane wasn't in the sequel is beyond me. I liked the one with Dolph Lundgren but the one with Ray Stevenson sucked ass. The story sucked and violence was too damn over the top. There was no emotion to it. The one with Jane had a very good story, it was well casted and the action was great, not damn corny. Thomas Jane is The Punisher.
Thomas Jane's Punisher was hardly The Punisher, he was a modern day Western hero. He doesn't even have motivation to punish crime other than going after the Saints.

Going straight to the comics and ignoring all the movies completely, Past "punishing" the people who killed his family what motivation at all does he have to continue hunting down other criminals that have little to nothing to do with anything remotely to do with Frank? The character has no direct motivation he just does it. In Franks mind it's nothing more than a "somebody's got to do it" job.

@QuassDebonair I agree. When I first picked up a Punisher comic back in the 80's and read basically all of them back then. Ray Stevenson still captured the right look, height, build etc. even if you don't include current verions of The Punisher. That is what he looks like period.
I did appreciate the fact that in the Warzone movie, the director used only 3 colours for every scene... Just like a comic book... Nice touch I thought.

You do know that the MAX series wasn't out when Punisher 2004 was being made, right? So the movie is based on WBF and Year One. So you can't really give that as a reason. But, Ray does look like the MAX Frank (except the turtle-body armour) and on the other side- Jane looks like Jim Lee's Punisher. Sad to think that War Zone is going to be the last Punisher movie in a looong time...

They assume the Tom Jane punisher is everything Frank is. Warzone captured the brutallity that Frank resorts too that's done in the comics now such as tossing that guy off the building then jumping on him. Also it pulled parts from the comic such as him being pissed at God and his moral about not shooting cops

Punisher: War Zone (the one you like) has a score of 26%, which sucks. The Punisher from 2004 has 29%. Still not a great score, but statistically better than the one you say is "considered better". Bam!

Warzone had better action scenes?? Let me tell you something. The scene with the big Russian in Jane's Punisher is one of the coolest, most badass in the entire movie. Warzone doesn't have anything even remotely as cool as that.

Actually they got Thomas Jane and Ray Bradstreet to work on promotional images for the Punisher. The original Welcome Back Frank series by Garth Ennis featured a Punisher that looked a tad bit like Ray Stevenson. HOWEVER, Jane does happen to resemble the Punisher of the 80's to a certain point.
Of course I ain't afraid. I enjoyed both movies, the first one had a story, but WarZone was all gun porn.

Completely agree. Warzone had the action 2004 had the story but much of warzones violence was just stupid. NONE of The shotgun head shots even remotely looked real, the freakin super punch was retarded, and the rocket to the free runner was the gayest thing I have ever seen in a movie and I sat through half of broke back mountain.
I actually laughed at all the scenes of the Hardcore violence. The super punch and freerunner explosion being those scenes exactly. The gun fights were pretty damn amazing, but some things they could have just done without. I own the first two issues of Welcome Back Frank, and the first issue's opening pannels are near identical to WarZone's soo, there goes your source material. Anywhoo...

i agree....in comics you can make things overly fantastic and fuck with physics all day long because its main purpose is to attract the reader's attention,but in tv/movies,you have to really sift thru everything and cut out all of the utmost unrealistic aspects of the characters to make it more applicable. although i wouldn't mind seeing rogue or storm in their comic book outfits.......knowwhutimean?

You do know that the MAX series wasn't out when Punisher 2004 was being made, right? So the movie is based on WBF and Year One. So you can't really give that as a reason. But, Ray does look like the MAX Frank (except the turtle-body armour) and on the other side- Jane looks like Jim Lee's Punisher. Sad to think that War Zone is going to be the last Punisher movie in a looong time...

They assume the Tom Jane punisher is everything Frank is. Warzone captured the brutallity that Frank resorts too that's done in the comics now such as tossing that guy off the building then jumping on him. Also it pulled parts from the comic such as him being pissed at God and his moral about not shooting cops

Also, you say "Warzone is considered better", what are you basing this on? I ask because RottenTomatoes compiles lots of different opinions/ratings, from film critics & amateurs, for an overal score. Punisher: War Zone (the one you like) has a score of 26%, which sucks. The Punisher from 2004 has 29%. Still not a great score, but statistically better than the one you say is "considered better". Bam!

@QuassDebonair you do realize that the "Max series" Punisher encompases less than 1 % of all punisher comics and there a METRIC FUCK TON MORE Punisher comics than just the Max Series. and Thomas Jane's Punisher is almost IDENTICAL to Jim Lee's Punisher from the 90's which the one almost all of us REAL Fans of The Punisher grew up with.

In my opinion Punisher Warzone is better. Comparing with the old comics I had, Ray Stevenson is the better choice for playing Frank Castle.
It's not important for the Punisher to have charisma. The special effects were not bad.

Actually they got Thomas Jane and Ray Bradstreet to work on promotional images for the Punisher. The original Welcome Back Frank series by Garth Ennis featured a Punisher that looked a tad bit like Ray Stevenson. HOWEVER, Jane does happen to resemble the Punisher of the 80's to a certain point.

I actually laughed at all the scenes of the Hardcore violence. The super punch and freerunner explosion being those scenes exactly. The gun fights were pretty damn amazing, but some things they could have just done without. I own the first two issues of Welcome Back Frank, and the first issue's opening pannels are near identical to WarZone's soo, there goes your source material. Anywhoo...

i agree....in comics you can make things overly fantastic and fuck with physics all day long because its main purpose is to attract the reader's attention,but in tv/movies,you have to really sift thru everything and cut out all of the utmost unrealistic aspects of the characters to make it more applicable. although i wouldn't mind seeing rogue or storm in their comic book outfits.......knowwhutimean?

He wasn't fired. He quit because he wasn't happy with the script.
I'm really glad the next Punisher movie is not a sequel to this one...I hate it when they change the actor for the main character in sequels...unless the first actor was horrible.

HE was a good frank castle.He wasnt fired,Jonathan Hensleigh(Director of the 1st punisher)quit.Tom Jane walked off shortly after,there was alot of fucking around with scripts.

he was not as big as frank castle but he convinced you he was frank castle but i just hope this new guy they got can do just as good but he wont do better but lets face it look how many times they swaped actors for the batman movies. oh and they have a terminator series so why not chronicals of Frank castle

Can't picture any other actor playing the punisher, Thomas Jane just has the look, muscle & the voice!
It's shit that he's not in Punisher 2 but i heard Lionsgate wanted to make the punisher more soft and change his character altogether, so i think thats the reason Jane turned it down.
I also think he didn't like the script!

you mean the punisher 3 cuz back in the 80s there was a version wit dolph lundgren (ivan drago from rocky 4) so the one with tom jane is actually the punisher 2, its a common mistake
