  • I hope someone out there can bring back all this music. I feel like Adele and Michael Bublé are trying, but I think that there can never be too many jazz singers nowadays :)

  • how did the music change so quickly? why cant we have music like this ? some of my friends dont even know who billie holiday is. Its a shame but the world is like this nowadays

  • Heroin addiction.... Song is about not having her morning fix. Great song.

  • @martinezgerard wtf you talking about???

  • No screamin' and showing off how high a note she can hit , just true blue and expressive !

  • Billie can sing a "Torch" song like few others; you can feel the pain in her voice and the resignation that she has lost someone who was close to her in every way.

  • Luv Billie. She is the reason why I am singer today. Check out Vonne' new upcoming songtress. Share with family and friends. Leave comments as well. Peace and luv,

    Vonne'

  • I love this ladies music, I have 2 Amit that Diana Ross sung the hell out of Good Morning Heart Ache also

  • She is the stone that the builder refused.

That turned out to be a diamond.

    Love u Lady Day.

  • gosh, she was really beautiful

  • how has our music devolved from this magic to what it is today?

  • @MrStoney she def died of a heroin overdose

  • Sherryyyyy ... what you know about this??? Beautiful TRUTH!

  • Less than two minutes is all it took to express such honest feelings....

  • this song reminds me of my old friend....henk thoolen (echt Holland)

  • What a BEAUTIFUL woman!

  • She had a mesmerising voice, Sad that she was swindled out of her money ,died with $0.70 in her bank account and cirossis of the liver.Sad to think that she died in such a fashion ,during a time that a black performer could have been lynched for being black. We lost a great talent too soon.

  • Wow, all tht free advertising for Mr. Kelly- 400,000 people in the year 2011!

  • i just lie down and listen with a scotch in my hand..this is beautiful

  • @RINGOFE I love that thought. To have a good scotch and take in good morning heartache.... or any song by the glorious Billy Holiday, goosebumps

  • @tamarexxe or maybe under the brooklyn bridge too..

  • After 60 years know I learn is heartache, I thought was good morning Harlem, wow, how wrong one can get,

  • stop haunting me now. I melt away. to short this version, but best for me.

  • Jazz singers made the songs they sang their own, you can notice the character they bring to the song, very few singers nowaays can do that. That s why I will always love jazz.

  • the modern music of billie holiday... haha love it. you gotta love it...

  • AHHH, Such is life...

  • beautiful music and woman.

  • The woman and her music was Simply beautiful

  • This song fits her range so well. On the album she sounds rich and moody and I miss her music for that richness. All of the visual footage was not available to the consumer in the early 90's. It's great to see it hear now.

  • I like Peggy lee and I adore billie holiday.

  • Winehouse wasn't fit to tie billie holiday's boots.

  • TALK DIRTY TO ME MAMMA

  • @babah77088 lol.

  • I just hope in some sort of afterlife Ms. Winehouse and Lady Day get to scat together. Rest in Harmony, both.

  • RIP Amy Winehouse and Lady Day! The only person that can touch Billie was Miss Amy!

  • If you've read anything about B.H. this song is her coming to terms with dealing with her emotional pain using a drug as the alternative. She should never be demonized for this, but empathized with; and that's not an excuse...remember history and what a ground-breaker this great performer was. RIP LADY DAY!

  • Billie Holiday is Amazing!

If you like blues, check out Rat Stomp :)

  • Thanks so so much for posting! Listening to Billie makes me cry. She is so beautiful and magnificent and sooo sad! I wish I could hug her. I wish it was live footage too, but I'm not bitching!

  • good morning heartache...sit down

  • Billie is the absolute "Lady Day" no one like her since. maybe Norah Jones

  • beautiful...love ya Eleanora

  • from just about every song, I think it's safe to say billy holiday suffered from depression.

  • please people! when u put up a video and claim its LIVE... make dam sure you have a LIVE peice of footage to show us!! This is irratating to say the least. wasting my dam time!

  • @TheParamountPrincess Saying live in regards to a piece of music only implies that it was recorded live, not necessarily that they have live footage. Maybe it would be nice if they listed it as "recorded live" or something for clarity, but technically it's correct to label it as live. Besides, I really doubt there would be video footage of this live...

  • @TheParamountPrincess AMEN MAMI! I WAS TRAGICALLY DISAPPOINTED TO NOT SEE THE ACTUAL FOOTAGE. THE SAD PART ABOUT IT IS THAT MANY FOLKS ON HERE ARE ILLITERATE AND COULDN'T WRITE THEIR WAY OFF OF A DAMNED CHALKBOARD. AY AY AY!

  • @TheParamountPrincess I agree. Every musical soundtrack is recorded "live." But it's misleading to say this video is "live," leading people to think they will see actual footage of the artist's performance.

  • A truly beautiful voice and song.... just fabulous.

  • I can't take the heartache i go to sleep with it and wake with it..

  • Legend!

  • Lady can sing the blues

  • AMAZING!!!

  • goddamn she was beautiful :D and i adore this song. (:

  • Thanks Billie ...as smooth as i Casmere Cod Piece

  • I love my holiday

  • @BretEmilio Who had more of a just-plain-old-right to sing the blues than The Lady Day, I ask you???! She had more class in the pinkie than some will EVER have in their entire being...Long live The Queen! xo p.

  • Happy birthday Lady Day

  • Gee I dont know how she can still smile while her life's like shit. Her man cheated on her, was forced to have sex with an old man, kicked out of her house because she can't afford to pay the rent and the list goin on and on man.Maybe that's why people call her and address her as lady Day.I dont think we will have a singer who compare with her. There are a lot of people sang her song and tried to become her but nobody managed to do it.R.I.P Billie Holiday, may god bless ur soul and thank u.

  • I LOVE THIS !!!!!!! THANK U

  • truly good music will last and inspire people for generations......some of the singers of today are placed on legendary status too soon and hyped up too fast....in less than 3 or 4 years they are already has beens because the music industry chose them to be legends not the public....remember the Jonas Brothers hype...comparing them to the legendary Beatles..now Justin Bieber compared to Michael Jackson???go figure

  • thats right Billie, good morning heartache, sit down...Huichol53

  • I feel as though I knew her even though she was before my time. Love her.

  • this song is about heroin and her morning heartache is not having her mornig fix.

  • I love Miki Howard's rendition of this song

  • I heard htis on United States of Tara and became kind of obsessed. So glad ot hear it again. Simply beautiful : )

  • Not only was the style incredible but so was the music

I'm 14 years old and i think i may of been born in the wrong age :/

  • @Geographylovers hahahaha! i always thought that too!

  • @Geographylovers If the music is truly good, it will recognize no boundaries. I am 57 years old.. I love Ms. Holliday as well as Kid Rock, Hank Williams SR. as well as Motley Crue. Merle Haggard and George Jones as well as Garbage and the bone thugs. But I have to say that as a young person such as yourself, it is refreshing to hear that you didn't need the opinions of your peers to make up your mind for you. Good on yas.

  • @Geographylovers i agree completely!

  • Music isn't what it use to be. I adore this song!!!!

  • 3 people have no taste in music. smh

  • she was very beautiful very pretty and an amazing voice.....her music is timeless!

  • I discovered Billie Holiday in high school, and haven't looked back since. Her voice just relaxes me like no other singer can. Who hasn't awaken with a broken heart?

  • @aliza1407 I agree with you. I just want to take a mug of hot herbal tea, find the most comfortable chair I can find, and just listen to her voice caress against my ears and relax.

  • @Indiegirl007 - I don't agree, but I understand what you mean. But I prefer Etta James singing this....can't find it on the tube...

  • @hihosilverlining2 Etta is great, but this is Billie's song all the way. It was written especially for her and her initial 1946 recording for Decca is iconic and can't be be surpassed--IMHO.

  • O wow a glimpse into Ms. Day's live life !

  • An icon -- underappreciated, misunderstood, never duplicated. This voice is one for the ages.

  • @furryfeet

You summed Billie and her timeless music in two perfect sentences. Thank you.

  • Her voice reaches deep within my soul:

  • Beautiful song beautiful lady. Heres a small bit of truth..did you guys know that when these songs were written they went someplace,I cant remember what it was called but the white singers got first pick so a lot of songs lady day sings were songs nobody wanted...she made these songs that nobody wanted to sing famous with that voice

  • @lconeill1949

    Never knew that,thanks.

I bet the white folk didn't like "strange fruit" one little bit!

  • @lconeill1949 Well that's cool!

  • @lconeill1949 That's awesome. That's talent. 8D

  • @lconeill1949

I doubt that your story is true. Any evidence? Any source?

  • @lconeill1949 thts cold .

  • Love this woman. A legend.

Too bad she ruined her life by doing Heroine.

That was the drug of choice tho back in that day.

RIP Billie. TY for the years still of your fantastic music......<3

  • @GroupieVee It is too bad. But times were different. Drug abuse was viewed as a crime, instead of an illness. She had a very tormented life. Today she would have had the option to get help. But still beautiful lady, beautiful soul, beautiful voice.

  • i'm a lil wayne fan & i love rap & all that...but to be honest...there is nothin better then sipping on a good glass of warm tea, feeling the steam takeover ur face..while closing your eyes & getting carried in the air like a soft music note...while listening to Frank, Billie, John mayer, OR Norah jones...<3 that is true talent i must say... me & billie have the same birthday :) April 7th..both born on wed <3 i'm only 17yrs young tho R.I.P BILLIE YOU ARE MISSED. ILL SEE YOU IN HEAVEN ONE DAY

  • @xxN4yN4yxx John Mayer and Norah Jones belong in the same category but not with Frank and Billie-- that's blasphemy

  • today is my birthday!!! two sevens equel 14 so today i'm 27 :)

    Goodmoring Heartache...........

  • Sweet old song!!!

  • Fantastic!!

  • oh! one of the greatest singers as well!

  • one of the greatest songs ever!

  • on of my favs

  • timeless!!!!!!!!

  • just perfect....

  • WOW.. such a sweeeeet voice...Billie..!

  • I actually like this one better than Lady Sings the Blues. I think this was her first live performance. The movie is excellent. Another great singer whose life was destroyed by prescription drug use.

  • @Ms70sFlowerchild Holiday was addicted to heroin wasn't she? not exactly a prescription drug, or maybe it was back then...

  • She was addicted to Morphine. At that time, it was a prescription drug...still is. The band she started singing with were all white and one of them got it from a doctor for her.

  • ahh. i see... thought it was heroin, but either way its too bad, she was beautifully talented

  • @Ms70sFlowerchild Although she was addicted to an illegal drug, heroin (not morphine), it, alone, did not kill her. She actually died from something also non-prescription AND legal: alcohol. Her cause of death is officially given as cirrhosis of the liver. Not that heroin didn't help her wasting away in her 40s...

  • This was her first live performance...I think. The movie is excellent. "Lady Sings the Blues".

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've loved this song for years i def am an old soul. muah love you billy!

  • omg! i never knew how BEAUTIFUL she really was! I remeber watching Lady Sings the Blues repeatidly when i was younger, but i never saw the Real Elanora! Dam she was TRULY GEORGEOUS!!

  • There is a movie in which Billie plays a maid and she sings beautifully. Its title is New Orleans

  • You sing from my heart. Good morning heartache: I dedicate this to MYSELF.

  • the first time i listen to this version it's her afterwar's voice, after 48 i think it's just extraordinary thanks

  • Beautiful song...beautiful lady. Thanks for uploading this!

  • this live version is fxckin beautiful

much better than the studio version

which album is this in? i wanna listen to the full song

  • This song and don't explain are my two favorite holiday tunes. She had so much going on in her life and shared it with everyone through her lyrical talent and vocal present from God

  • This song is about heroin addiction.

  • @RaiderFade

    nice rendering ;)

  • Good for guys who are still young but like this kind of music...

The emotion ... I can feel the depressing inside... it's wonderful...

  • I read a book, think it was called Sleepless Nights. And the only thing I read it for was the author's few, but what seemed like stingingly accurate, descriptions of Billie Holiday. I learned later that the author was a lesbian, and she and Holiday at least liked each other, if they didn't have an outright fling.

  • Billie Holiday swung both ways. They might have.

  • she was amazing...

  • Comment removed

  • Billie Holiday is the reason I got into singing jazz/blues and listening to the music in general, she will be the number 1 singer in my book, it's not all about 'perfection' in vocals, it's truely about emotions and her voice embodies emotions

  • I'm 14, and yet I love the music my Grandparents grew up with.

Any person the same age as me, or in their teens, needs to hear lady day before they make their decision on what's good music these days.

  • Actually I'm 14 too, and I really like this music!

  • That is so cool to hear that you are so young and yet love the old music. I am 42, so this music was before my time too, but i've always loved it since the day i first heard it.

  • Wow, you sound very mature for your age, that's quite refreshing lol. Glad to see that someone your age can appreciate real music.

  • Thank you. ^^

  • Yeah I love her too...I am a big fan of older music...Stevie Nicks is my true hero...I grew up to her and Fleetwood Mac...I recently started listening to Billie and I LOVE her!

  • @PsychoBoar I'm your age too and I am in LOVE with this music. I thought I was the only one of my kind lol.

  • @PsychoBoar OH I'm only a few years older than you but I'm so pessismistic about the nature of our generation and it's tastes in "music" but this comment cheered me up more than you'll know.

  • @PsychoBoar , I'm 14 too, and started listening to Billie when I was 10. I'm an old soul, and listen to all the songs back in the day because they have meaning unlike most songs today.

  • @nigel1034 nother expert heard from.

  • @PsychoBoar i'm 7 and can go to the bathroom by myself, give me a pat on the back.

you don't get extra credit for "discovering" what's been out for 70 years.

stay out of grandpa's way and be quiet.

  • @beeb1421 Jeeze, what crawled up your ass and died? I'm merely making a statement which I think is important. It's called freedom of speech.

  • @PsychoBoar Next week you'll be wearing tie die and telling us how great janis joplin is. old soul?

  • @aknowneemus Hey! Im 15 and Janis Joplin is amazing! So is Jimi.....and Ella Fitzgerald..... But i agree with PsychoBear. I NEVER listened to music that was popular, i started listening to music like this and i love it :D

  • @Rangiku0Haineko I'll check back in 10 years when you discover Nirvana. LOL

  • @beeb1421 lol

  • @PsychoBoar I'm almost 50, & felt the same way as young as in my teens! Good music transcends time!!!

  • @PsychoBoar This makes me so happy. :]

I have a friend who's 14, she's inlove with Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra, she loves music from the 20's - 50's, it "melts her heart" to hear music like this. ^^

  • @PsychoBoar I agree:D There are a lot of great old songs:D

  • @PsychoBoar I agree wholeheartedly!I am 17 and I love artists like Billie, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Lena Horne; the list is endless! They're the REAL divas, and possess so much class and sass lol :-) People should really open their ears instead of just their eyes.

  • So true..

  • I'm 15 and I feel the same way.

  • She truly was great.

  • fav

  • this is sooo brilliant and she is so georgous

  • This is My FAVORITE!

  • Billie is simply the greatest female singer EVER! Her soulful sounds reaches into the 'hurt' and soothes the pain until it's bearable. How sad that she will never know how her music and legend endures.

  • I completely agree.

Her music has always consoled me, when i feel down.

  • idk this makes me sadder though lol

  • @allieree She Knows

  • I love this tune by her so much, but can you upload it in it's entirety? what a voice! thanks.

  • Wow....I love her voice...yhou can feel every word.

  • this song is so beautiful and sad at the same time.

what a gifted but tragic soul and story.

    R.I.P. Lady Day!

  • nobody can sing a billie holiday origional like billie holiday. there simply is no comparison.

  • this song is about her herion addiction she had

  • yes, you are right.

  • Another favorite of mine! The first time I heard this song was sung by Jill Scott with Chris Botti.... I haven't heard of this or Diana Rosses version

    Such a romantic song *sigh*

    DeJanae Brown 10 years old

  • It's amazing how her voice and her words touchs our hearts so deep inside... She's a true diva.
