She's not too big for the donkey. Her height might make it difficult for her to balance, and possibly could affect the donkey's balance also, but she is not hurting him/her. And I am very critical about people riding animals that are too small for them.
Why are you kicking her at 0.34 ?? You don't do that to get something going, you give a nudge, and if they don't respond you give them a little tap by your feet, kicking like that odes no help. Plus you kicked her in the wrong place, that's why she shot forward, you aren't meant to kick them on their stomach.
you should NOT keep a donkey in a tiny stabble that she cant c out of! and it would be soooo funny if he chucked u! u dont put ur legs under their belly and pull upwards you sqeeze then nudge then kick gentley. for gods sake i feel really sorry for them!

Update: We take her out everyday :) and although she doesn't steer, we've desensitized her to a lot of things, currently working on tarps, and she's almost completely done learning how to lunge :) You were my inspiration to train the donkey haha :)
I broke my donkey in too, my donkey will let me ride her backwords or lay flat on her back, i know the frustration, i had so many people saying i was too big i called up my vet and asked him if i was too big or if i would hurt her, he said she could carry alot more weight then me! lol, love your donkey
I run a donkey rescue and I recommend you read the Difinitive Donkey before saying that you aren't too big for that donkey. you also say she doesn't mind, did she say that! Donkeys can take alot of pain before showing symptoms. So you don't care if she was in pain?

Why does she 'wag' her tail. They live on an orchard and it was the middle of summer. A lot of insects around. She does the exact same thing in the paddock whilst she is grazing. Note her ears, a more accurate sign of distress or annoyance, Her ears indicate she is calm and under no sort of stress. They are relaxed, and most of the time pointed towards me, listening to me. If i was hurting her, she wouldn't let me ride her.

yup the can, i wouldn't reccommend one for serious riding, like dressage etc, but treks, farm hack etc they would be excerlent beause they are very hardy. They can get quite big, giant donkeys are quite large. A lot bigger than 13.3hh haha. They donkeys arnt mine anymore :(

Wow .. very neat ! From reading your replies on the comments, it seems you know alot about donkeys. Well we have a 3500 acer ranch, and we manily have quarter horses , and we use them to do all the cow work.. I also ride in the NCHA aged cutting events... I was wandering how a donkey would do here on the ranch, just for fun... lol. working cattle and such !
Im not sure about working cattle or anything, but treks etc sure! Mind you, if you had a bigger donkey than sylvie, im sure it ould be fine, they are very strong. However .. mules are FANTASTIC! We have on that does all the regions ODES and it does pretty well in the dressage and jumping. Personally i think theyre cute, but they make great working mounts also

You need to get him a bit more responsive to the leg, just practise stopping and then walking foward alot and if you kick him and he doesn't move get up him and kick really hard and give lots of praise when he does move.

Riding donkeys looks like so much fun! :) Does she canter as well? She's a very nice built, cute little donkey. Wish you had more videoes of her! I used to ride horses, but quit because they were too skittish for me, and I got scared. One day I'm gonna try riding a donkey. They seem alot calmer and friendlier than horses! :)
haha yeah theyre cool :) but i dont have these two any more :( havnt for over a year. Yup they canter, but its very straight short strides so doesn't feel much like a canter. Just .. fast lol. You should stick with horses, theyre awesome. I have two of my own, and you will find a nice calm one if you keep loking :)
i rode alot of skittish horses as well, what horses did you ride, i swopped from riding small warm bloods to riding cold bloods, Shires and Cobs are fantastic!
Ive ridden almost everything haha. I think its the only way to really improve your riding, theres almost no better skill than being able to jump on any horse and ride it as if its your own. Im a great believe in variety in mounts as your learning. But yup, cobs are cool. I like Clydiextb .. my old boy was one (watch tuscany video) miss him so much!

Contact the ADMS (American Donkey and mule society) they will tell you that you are TOO BIG to ride this donkey

They're not "for young kids", they're animals not toys...
And it's the weight of the rider in comparison to the donkey, not how tall the rider is that matters, and it looks fine.

How cute, how did you train them to ride? I have a peppy little burro that I can sit on, but she will sit back on her haunches and then really toss me! Otherwise she's perky enough to be a good kids mount... Good job!

i do agree donkeys have horse musle mass then horses.... not always stronger.....just compared to there size. But i also agree even if he is strong that u r just alittle to big for him.

No, im not too big. Donkeys are A LOT stronger than horses in comparrison for their size. Sylvie, and Abby, who is smaller, have no trouble carrying me. I am a very knowledgble and compassionate horse and donkey person, if i was putting them under some kind of stress and pain, i wouldn't do it.

Why does she 'wag' her tail. They live on an orchard and it was the middle of summer. A lot of insects around. She does the exact same thing in the paddock whilst she is grazing. Note her ears, a more accurate sign of distress or annoyance, Her ears indicate she is calm and under no sort of stress. They are relaxed, and most of the time pointed towards me, listening to me. If i was hurting her, she wouldn't let me ride her.

can donkeys canter and stuff and jump? coz i wanna donkey and how big can they get i know there strong for their size but i can't ride anything under 13.3 otherwise i fall off :( donkeys are soo cute and you are soo lucky to have 2 :)

yup the can, i wouldn't reccommend one for serious riding, like dressage etc, but treks, farm hack etc they would be excerlent beause they are very hardy. They can get quite big, giant donkeys are quite large. A lot bigger than 13.3hh haha. They donkeys arnt mine anymore :(

My son just bought a donkey to ride. She's a cutie, but she seems awefullly small. However after seeing you ride your (his is the same size) I don't feel so hesitant. He loves her, she's only 5 yrs. old. And he has to train her to ride, what can do you recommend. I'd like to speak with you via email if possible, thanks

Wow .. very neat ! From reading your replies on the comments, it seems you know alot about donkeys. Well we have a 3500 acer ranch, and we manily have quarter horses , and we use them to do all the cow work.. I also ride in the NCHA aged cutting events... I was wandering how a donkey would do here on the ranch, just for fun... lol. working cattle and such !

Im not sure about working cattle or anything, but treks etc sure! Mind you, if you had a bigger donkey than sylvie, im sure it ould be fine, they are very strong. However .. mules are FANTASTIC! We have on that does all the regions ODES and it does pretty well in the dressage and jumping. Personally i think theyre cute, but they make great working mounts also

You need to get him a bit more responsive to the leg, just practise stopping and then walking foward alot and if you kick him and he doesn't move get up him and kick really hard and give lots of praise when he does move.

Riding donkeys looks like so much fun! :) Does she canter as well? She's a very nice built, cute little donkey. Wish you had more videoes of her! I used to ride horses, but quit because they were too skittish for me, and I got scared. One day I'm gonna try riding a donkey. They seem alot calmer and friendlier than horses! :)

haha yeah theyre cool :) but i dont have these two any more :( havnt for over a year. Yup they canter, but its very straight short strides so doesn't feel much like a canter. Just .. fast lol. You should stick with horses, theyre awesome. I have two of my own, and you will find a nice calm one if you keep loking :)

i rode alot of skittish horses as well, what horses did you ride, i swopped from riding small warm bloods to riding cold bloods, Shires and Cobs are fantastic!

Ive ridden almost everything haha. I think its the only way to really improve your riding, theres almost no better skill than being able to jump on any horse and ride it as if its your own. Im a great believe in variety in mounts as your learning. But yup, cobs are cool. I like Clydiextb .. my old boy was one (watch tuscany video) miss him so much!
