  • i practice judo, and i love that weep, robertofegomes, Resende, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

  • I have a competition coming up in a week, and this sweep helps me alot. Thanks for the video!

  • lololol, not to be a jack ass but with your demonstrated technique, all you'd have to do to counter that is face your right knee outwards. your "circle" motion with the leg would not create enough momentum to break that. You fail to load up the opponent's weight over your hips, there by breaking his balance and properly performing this technique. You should add in your description that this move would only work on a white belt(no stripe) like the kid in your video.

  • @Sewbie Yeah, this vid was made almost 4 years ago, we add a "bump" to get our Opponent's off their base before executing the sweep. I've been with Gracie Barra now since this vid and alot of my game has been fixed. Thanks for the input. I'm actually re-filming alot of these old vids with new, improved ways of doing them. I like to keep these old ones up so I can see my progress and evolution of the moves. lol

  • this is a flower sweep

  • if you're talking about beating wrestlers at jiu-jitsu then no shit you'll beat them if you have the experience. wrestling is based on a different scoring system mainly involving takedowns and exposing the opponents back to the ground, therefore the fundamentals are different whereas in jiu jitsu you don't get penalized for being on your back.

Why don't you try wrestling them instead? Play their game instead of yours?

  • This looks like one hell of a fun sweep.

Wish I wasn't injured so I could practice it ASAP.

  • @argenteum You and me both. injuries suck!

  • awesome

  • I do bjj and i i know very little about wrestling but I do believe that the only way to become a effiecent grappler u need to know either judo or wrestleing and bjj without one another they are incomplete

  • Wrestling is great. I started with bjj, as wrestling is not very common here in brazil, but i've been training wrestling to improve my game, especially without a gi.

  • i love that sweep. but we call it the pendulum or windmill sweep

  • Yes, it is called the Pendulum Sweep in our club as well...we add a little "bump" before sweeping Opponent.

  • wrestling takes way more technique than you think. however opponents tend to be very tough so strength training becomes critical. don't brag about submitting wrestlers, they don't do submissions. and even if you submitted you they probably had you pinned.

  • Thx man,really nice techniques... .

  • Thanks, another one to add to the arsenal

  • wrestling is better not wwe but real wrestling

  • Is that why Royce Gracie handily dispatched of Dan Severn? Is that why a month after taking BJJ classes I could submit my two friends that wrestled in high school and have both weight and strength advantages on me? Wrestling has too many holes, too few ways to finish, and places too much emphasis on raw strength over technique.

  • yeah dan severn is a 200 greco roman, sambo, judo and freestyle wrestler and gracie is a 140 bjj fighter and win

  • 1. Severn was a greco roman wrestler and you could say a freestyle wrestler but he was not into sambo and judo.

    2. Gracie was 170-180lbs in that fight...NOT 140.

  • Still useful to know wrestling for pinning instincts though, BJJ moves have way higher success %s when applied from a dominant position. But ya, I agree BJJ really does help you submit bigger people.

  • soooo you're bragging about beating people who have no jujitsu experience when you have a months worth? im sure anyone who is trained is gonna beat someone who isnt, most of the time. but a wrestler with a months jujitsu experience will smoke a non-wrestler with the same amount of experience, if not more

  • wrestling is 100% technique. you just have to assume your opponent is just as good so it always helps to be stronger. and your friends must not have been very good and i doubt they knew any submissions. wrestlers with submission skills destroy straight up bjj guys. you need both skills to do well you cant expect your friends to win without any training in submissions. ask them to a straight up wrestling match and you will realize how dumb your statement is.

  • @Aerofire very true, it seam that all the ufc champions that were wrestlers take bjj classes to be able to not get submitted even if they don't admit it. matt huges is excellent in submissions, it has been said his skills is comparable to bjj black belt. he didn't learn that in wrestling class. someone taught him bjj. he may not admitted it, but it is bjj.

  • @Aerofire how about sakraba he was a wrestler catch wrestlaer beat all the gracies

  • @dogkung He also threw kicks and punches, LOL.

  • wrestling is for pussys u touch each other with tights on and once someone gets on there back they restart, bjj is ended by a tap out enough said

  • you lack any understanding of wrestling. both sports have there merits, and Brazilian jujitsu takes many moves that are commonly associated with wrestling simply because they are so effective. Typically wrestlers have to be stronger and in better shape than most bjj guys. After doing both disciplines i have to say that wrestling is way harder and physically demanding. Wrestling is not for pussies.

  • @erikk237 while I agree with you my sons do both and the reason for that is wrestling scholarship. They seam to like jujitsu more, but yet again they are only 9.

  • Anydybob600,

tell that to Royce Gracie who tore Kimo's dick off

  • LOL

  • Bonito y útil.

  • would this work with nogi? if instead of grabing his gi could you grab his tricep behind the elbow?

  • That would work too.

  • I would think wrist control would still be the best. The problem with securing a tricep is that in a sweer situation, the arm can be posted out, unless the tricep is opushed into the hips. Studying this move, the triceps cannot really be forced into the hips since the circling leg would allow the combatant to post and add resistance. Notice how the sleeves are controlled and the combatant arms are SWAYED away from his body. It's more leverage than isolation. Ive been training a week, so, idk.

  • maybe an overhook

  • nice vid. funny story; a kickboxing instructor at my gym is named Mark Massey.

  • that looks like kamasutra, but looks really effective in a real situation ;D !
