Nope, no piccolo basses, Zach smith, the guy on the lleft, uses a stanley clarke alembic deluxe edition bass, he has it tuned completely standard, he just plays on the high frets, i can play his part on bass ik its right, and rob (left) is obviously using a precision bass of some sort, probly fender

"clearly" you don't know anything about instruments. they're both playing bass. rob's bass has 4 tuning pegs (count them...1, 2, 3, 4!)

you can play bass with or without a pick. it just gives you a different sound. many great session players use both in the same song for different sounds.
