In the five or so years immediately before this recession, some (?) number of "baby boomers" began retiring, many without significant resources other than a pension, an IRA or 401K, and minimal personal savings, or a nearly-paid-for home. They had a notion of being able to pick up part-time work as a financial supplement and a means of staying active in their communities. Those jobs will be the last to come back. Some attention should ALSO go to that demographic.
The people are responsible for themselves. You make poor decisions, you pay the price. You make wise choices you also reap the benefits. The government should stay out of the publics business. It's not their job to babysit the people and wonder who makes more than whom. Their only purpose for doing so is to see who can give more money.
Thats what the government has come to. A fundraiser to see who can give them more and more.
Most of the time, wealthy people are not wealthy because they made wise choices so much as because their parents were wealthy and well-connected, giving them more opportunity. It is mostly a myth that rich people have earned their privilege.
The point is SOMEONE in their family line did the work necessary to make their riches. Why should I be mad at them for that? Their success has almost no direct effect on mine of yours. They can keep their riches. I'll make my own.
I am not mad at them for it, but they don't merit it. We should not pretend that they do, nor be afraid to change societal structures so as to nudge society towards equality of opportunity and privilege.
Societal structures have always been defined by those with wealth, priveledge and power. The rest are lower class, such as the "middle class" and the poverty class. I am proof you can rise above your beginnings and that wise decisions play a key role. I grew up in a single household, no father and a mom who worked 20 hr days at a bar to support us. She made a meager 20K/yr to support 3 kids.I now earn a lot more than that from watching her not give up. Opportunity? I had to find it.

I would have to disagree,unfortunately.

Equality of opportunity- I agree
If by equality of privilege you mean "equal results" I can't say that I agree there.
Equal opportunity is something that can be done without obstructing anyone right to succeed.
However it is impossible to for someone to be just as productive as their rivals without punishing the success of the more productive man/women.
