  • I lived in Pittsburgh and attended the symphony through the Steinberg years as well as Previn and Maazel (yuk). They are a world class orchestra, and it looks like Honek is proving to be a real plus in getting them the recognition they deserve.

  • Dat chorus just sitting there.

  • I don't like this conductor.

  • HELL YEAH!!! That is call real music.....Unlike John Cage dump ass

  • Bravo!

  • Who is the bumper in the horn section?"

  • @Bennis2626 That would be Zachary Smith.

  • Thank you!

  • Does the big five have an orchestra and conductor that could deliver such a performance today? What a powerful performance, yet its attention to detail is as remarkable as any of the not so powerful performances. The sound on the recording is also excellent, perfectly clear and very warm. I miss the days of Solti and Dohnanyi, as only they had performances of Mahler that sounded as glorious as this amongst the American Big 5.

  • Nancy!!<3

  • who is the concertmaster??

  • @NoStringsAttached08 Tomo Keller, from the London Symphony Orchestra, played as guest concertmaster.

  • Earra!!!

  • Maestro Honeck is one of the great Mahlerians of our time surely, I sang Mahler 2 with him Pittsburgh, Verdi Requiem, and the Beethoven 9 were particularly spiritual and amazing moments with Manfred, Cant wait to do the Brahms Requiem Next year

  • The horns are exceptional!!!

  • I love the power of the Brass.

  • Wow! I prefer this interpretation over CSO or NY. Incredible performance by Mr. Vosburgh principal trumpet, he colors his sound with a broad pallet.

Brass sections are amazing and how about those horns. Bravo Pittsburgh, you have shown me that you are one, if not the finest Symphony Orchestras. Bravo!

  • excellent performance, the orchestra is top notch, conductor's phrasing of the music makes if fresh for diehard Mahler fans. Thanks for posting

  • Pittsburgh is very fortunate to have one of the finest orchestras in the world and one of the greatest conductors in Manfred Honeck. Time seems to go by so quickly when watching a performance like this. Thank you for posting it.

  • WOOWWWWWW NATALIO FLIPALO ALGUIEN A ESCUCHAO UNOS TROMPAS COMO ESOS ANTES JODER TRONCO MUCHA TELA VAYA ORQUESTA.

  • All of Mahler's works are so intimate, if you don't feel closer to him after each listen to one of his symphonic works then you are not listening close enough.

Bravo Pittsburgh on a great performance of such a powerful work in the symphonic repertoire. To truly have a unique interpretation of this timely classic is beyond amazing and I salute you!

  • I couldn't help but notice the perfection of the percussion section. Awesome job dudes.

  • The symphony sounds great. What a concerto for trumpet! Trumpet!

  • I had the great pleasure of hearing this performance at the Royal Festival Hall in London last week, it was really stunning and one of the highlights of this year's BBC Proms series. Thank you!

  • A stunning performance by one of the greatest American symphony orchestras. This beautiful symphony was performed on 9/11 and it is a wonderful tribute. Thanks to American Public Media and Digital Concert Hall for posting.
