  • @ForbiddenProfile that one is isn't easy for germans : Blaukraut bleibt Blaukraut

    und Brautkleid bleibt Brautkleid.

  • gedichte..

  • The word for girl. How is that "ch" pronounced?

  • @woodelf5

In german are two ways to pronounce "ch". One the one hand it's pronounced like a scratch in your throat. Your tongue touches the soft palate.

The second sound is formed by touching the hard palate with your tongue.

If you do this "tonguemoves" you just have to breathe out while mouth opened - and the sound forms itself :)

  • I'm having problems saying the word "rot". The "r" is not pronounced like a typical German "r".

  • i thought about the longest german word.

ich hab mir mal überlegt was wohl das längste deutsche wort ist.

    donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitänskajütenschlüsselloch.

I'm a regular white American with alot of friends and I know Dutch and German are brother languages with English.... keep your lessons up Kiwi

  • @str8upclown

Knowing english is absolutely useless for learning German. Just useful to some little extent for the vocabulary.

In fact, gramatically, I found more similarities between German and Spanish than German/English.

  • Comment removed

  • @mercjoe72

I agree that gramatically u can find similarities to Spanish, specially wth the articles and also pronunciation is easier if u are a native spanish speaker..

on the other hand ENGLISH is a GERMANIC language therefore, i DON'T think is COMPLETELY OR ABSOLUTELY useless for learning German, it has many similar words which helps u to remember the words easier and sometimes it is easier to translate German into English than to Spanish.

  • @fabiss77 Of course, Its not useless. Just wanted to make my point that knowing english is not going to be of MUCH help for learning german.

  • @fabiss77 But you are right, it does help with the vocabulary and its so interesting finding those similarities also. But you may also get tricked quite often because of knowing english though.

BTW: Latin, old germanic, greek, celtic, etc all developed from an unknown ancient language (called IndoEuropean). It is no surprise you are gonna find "ANCIENT" similarities between all modern IO languages.

  • @mercjoe72 oh thats good. I'm german and I'm gonna learn spanish next school year! :D

  • my word is: geschichte.

    danke

  • very very cool ! thanke you so much ^^

  • Vielen Dank. I'm currently self studying (I can spout a few phrases and some haphazardly formed sentences), and this really helps.

I do have some questions, which are 1; will you be making videos to help us learn the daunting task of word order? and 2; will you be making a video or series to give a basic foundation for cultural notes?

The reason I ask is cause I'm German, but moved away very young. I want to return to my homeland, but I feel I should get to know my language and people first.

  • for people that say she has an american accent thats normal on german ppl as in myself when germans talk gd english with a gd pronounsation its somehow turns out to sound sometimes a little american :)

  • I think that is so because when youre german and learn english you have a primitive pronounsation like the americans

Im german too so i have not really a idea about it but that sound plausible for me

  • How does one say in german i like what u have done with ur hair? I think ur a very good teacher

  • Comment removed

  • @burninhot5861 You could say: Was du mit deiner Haare gemacht hast, sieht sehr gut aus!

  • Danke .

Very nice .we would like you to make more and more lessons please .

    Danke again

    Du bist sehr hubsch!!!

    Ralf

  • Sie sind wunderbar. Ich will dich heiraten

  • just wanted to say... your english is good. but not that good that some of the people out there would really think you're american or something... honestly, its not...^^ thats not meant evil or something like that but everyone who's not trying to "impress" you, can tell that you have an clear german accent in your english so... whatever.^^

  • " thats not meant evil or something"

Ha ha your comment just seems hilarious in contrast to how you use english. Why would you say something like this anyways? Oh no, she has an accent, EXILE HER /sarcasm

  • my cmt wasnt about her accent, its about the people who tell her she sounds like american, although she doesn't. and wooah, thats the truth. - maybe you should read the next cmt twice, before you write something down which doesnt fit in at all.

  • @stevieandalex4ever

Well, you know that there is not THE "American accent"? For example, put someone from Oregon, Texas and Maine together. You'll totally find differences!

Adn for example she says "can't" the American way.

  • Comment removed

  • Her English is pretty good considering it's not her native tongue. Let's see you speak German as clear as she speaks English. And why would she need an American accent to qualify her as speaking good English? The British accents sounds good to me too!

  • i didnt say that she NEEDS an american accent.^^ other people tell her she sounds like american. thats not true. and thats all i said loL

  • Sie ist ein Fan von der Marlin Manson?

  • ur getting hotter every vid tbh...

  • i am not here to lurn german .. i want just to tell you .. You are beautifull !

  • I simply wish to marry you ( by the way if we have as many children as we can tackle languages between the two of us that will amount to quite a tribe !! ) . Qu' en penses-tu, mon amour?? Was denkts Du über diese wunderschöne Idee ?

Je vais t' apprendre une expression en français, ok ? - Tu es craquante.

This means you are irresistible !!

  • This answer to this question might be way off my learning curb but how are german sentences/questions structured. In english sentences it's "noun+verb+adjective". SMILE ;)

  • It's the same in German standard sentences. But it's different, if you want to put the accent on something:

English: He learns the lesson. (subj. - pred. - obj.)

German: Er lernt die Lektion. (same)

English: Now he has learnt the lesson. (adv. - subj. - aux. verb+main verb - obj.)

(German) Nun hat er die Lektion gelernt. (adv. - aux. verb - subj. - obj. - main verb)

    Perfect tense:

    I have eaten the apple

    Ich habe den Apfel gegessen

It's mainly the predicate that makes the difference.

  • Comment removed

  • Basically its noun+verb, eg: Peter steht.

But there are many modificators to this, which change the meaning a lot.

For Questions its basically interrogative word+verb+noun. eg: Wer bist du?

Another Form of Question is verbs first part(hard to explain here)+noun+verbs second part eg: Kommst du her?

  • furchterlich

  • I wanna ask about Nominativ. was and wer is nominativ right! what about the wo or where and which i dont know that is german, but is dat also a part of nominativ? i like the way you explain this things it really makes me understand it clearly, its slow but surely understandable. Thank you very much

  • Hey I just have a question over pronunciation in general. I noticed that when germans pronounce the letter "r" it's usually not rolled and I was wondering how it's pronounced? For example I noticed the word "prost"is usually said this way. I know the roll is done in the back of the mouth and I can do that properly.

  • Hey great finding ;-) Yes, the "r" is not rolled. You make that sound in the back of your throat. Just like something is stuck there and you want to clear your throat *g* put your lips to a half smile, tip of the tongue is down (and stays there ;-) ) and the back of the tongue is raised almost to the top of your palate. then just exhale sharply through that "opening" is very close to the "ach" sound. But if you can't do it, don't worry about it. Most people find the english accent lovely ;-)

  • Thanks for your help. I think I know what you mean but I don't know if my pronunciation of the "r" is absolutely right though.

  • in german there are many different "r". it is different in every region, so if somebody thinks he would be wrong if he heres a different "r" in german, that doesn´t matter! =)
