...by the way, I like this song...not because it is cheesy, but because it has a good beat and a recognisable rhythm and tune to it. Note Steve's style with the guitar, gutsy, bold...that is what 60's groups were like.....they did not give a toss, here it is and you are gonna get it! The Kinks were like this too. I would like to see some groups like this today. Groups that sing and actually play instruments rather than using them as fashion accessories. U2 is one example. We need more like this.
Each to their own. I am lucky to have experienced 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 21st century music! Indeed, someone from the 50's most probably would have disliked 60's music, and a lot of youngsters feel this way too. My preference? Sixties and seventies music. Many reasons. Quality, artists, variety, wonderful tunes. But that is my preference. Does not mean that there is no good modern music today.....there is.....it is just that it is not so easy to come by for the older generation!
hey guys, if you have a spare minute could you check out some of my guitar-work on my channel, it would be really appreciated. It sucks to advertise like this but it seems like the only way to get exposure. Thanks if you do check them out :)
Yeah this isnt his best but shows he can do a novelty song. Marriott in his heyday before the drugs got him would surely be the #1 rock vocalist. Robert Plant and Keith Richards thought so anyway.
One of the most under-rated albums from that time was Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. Absolutely brill, Bri. Especially the Professor Stanley Unwin, a brilliant goof!
@lucas070798 Are you mad? 90s was the best decade musically: we had pop, dance, soul; jungle and rnb. And proper rnb, not all this sleazy wishy-washy prurient crap of nowadays....
@Disbelieverful you no i sort of agree with you but i like the 90s more then i like the music now but the best music is definatly the 60s and some 70s and 80s are really good too 50s are sweet but of all no decade can beet the 60s as the 60s was all about music dancing love and ppl just being happy the music not there is nothing to it AT ALL! its all computers and no1 these days can sing live its not about talent anymore its about looks its all steriotyping!
@Disbelieverful no, the 60's was the best musical decade, Without the 60's we wouldn't have the 90's. In the 60's we had pop, soul, R&B, Acid Rock, Blues Rock, Folk, Small Faces, Psychedelic Rock, ROCK!
@lucas07700 Good God, you are nothing but truisms, are you!?!? People like u are very narrow-minded + need to learn to respect other people's tastes. I respect yours, but I'm betting you don't respect mine. What does that say about the sort of person you are?! Anyway, must dash. I'm off to listen to Ruth Joy....
@Disbelieverful I respect your taste of music, look at you, you just called me narrow-minded, you need to learn to respect people. You don't know how i feel about your taste of music, how can you say i don't respect it? think about it.
@Disbelieverful let's do something, let's end this right now. I stay with the 60's and you stay with the 90's. i don't like fighting, so let's finish this. Are u with me?
@lucas07700 Of course I'm with you, you fool! It was you who started this debate! I respect you want to stay with the 60s, and I will stay with the fabulous, unique 90s! Have fun, sweetie! Bye!
agreed. rock is dead NOW for the most part. the corps killed the creative juices of society. I am 27 yrs old and hate the music of my era. the sheep enjoy whatever is fed to them.
@Khultan Don' worry about it, that's Steve Marriot, Rod didn't come in until '69 after Marriot zarked off to form Humble Pie (and the new line-up was renamed 'The Faces') =)

@Khultan I think you've got something there. Time has been kind to Steve Marriott's vocals. Listening to these records again is like bringing out the fine wine..they've aged really really well.
@novadrian Steve's number one mistake (as well as the other band members) is narrowing on the idea that he, and the band were defined by this song. Ian MacLagan definitely is correct when he says that Steve should have stuck it out with his band and over time it would have been just a matter of the wide versatility that they displayed in musicality. This is not unusual. But, Steve just could not get it.
