  • random asian guy at 6:29 made me lol

  • I understand now that Dream Theatre sucks Opeth's dick!!!

  • @daumoro so ignorant.

  • @daumoro very ignorant. they're both amazing bands.

  • @purity778 Dream fucking theater just have virtuoso musicians woth fast fingers and slow brain each!

  • @daumoro that made zero sense.

  • @daumoro Don't worry you're not ignorant. Dream Theatre does does suck. Good musicians, bad music.

  • Unique band, can play, can compose, can growl, can sing, can make a show!

  • totally mindblowing song ... wow

  • 5 noobs love Justin bieber -.-

  • Mikael is both a daemon and an angel <3

  • really good music

  • Pause at 9:34 to see stunned little kid... AWESOME FUTURE FOR THIS LITTLE GUY!

  • a harsh & heavy growl

    sounds good.

  • For someone who sounds so scary, he sure seems charming.

  • @PaisleyWilde Same can be said about Charles Manson.

  • FUS RO DAH

  • Mikael and Frank Mullen are the two most badass vocalists death metal has ever seen..they can easily kill people with their vocals. \m/\m/

  • grandes musicos... nada q decir lml

  • masterpiece

  • It's so cool when you have Legolas drumming

  • WOW!!

  • perfect

  • five people got hunted in their childhood

  • TO CLEAR UP THE CONFUSION ONCE AND FOR ALL ABOUT MIKAEL'S GROWLING VOICE:

At Royal Albert Hall, his growling sounds fucked up because he was using inner-ear monitors and not regular earplugs. He said so himself in an interview. His voice has not changed or gotten worse at all.

  • @theHaxprocessor how did you get that name before i did

  • @theHaxprocessor describing one side of the coin, do you really think he still growls as good as he did during riveries or deliverance? secondly you dont think his voice weakend the further he got into the albert hall concert? in that case i really dont agree and think you should listen to it again.. its a natural thing thus if his growl today is as good as ever, he somehow magically ignored all biological evolutions which the human body endure ;)

  • @warmdickweed

His voice may have weakened the further he got into the Albert Hall concert, but it was all because he was using the wrong technique. I realize he won't be able to growl like that forever, but I know that there was something suspicious going on with that one concert (which I have watched several times, by the way).

  • @theHaxprocessor He also said in an interview that it had something to do with him using in-ear monitors in the Albert Hall concert and that hearing his growls over those monitors seemed to be partly responsible for this change in his growls. He also stated that in earlier years he hadn't used them and that they were great for clean vocals, but apparently not so great for growls. He also said it wasn't something physiological were he would have needed treatment or something like that.

  • @Altairograph

This is exactly what I said in my original comment. Just not in so much detail.... so I really have no idea why you just explained this to me.

  • @theHaxprocessor I'm sorry, I didn't see your original post and therefore wasn't sure if you knew this. My fault.

  • What is it with idiots at opeth gigs and not being able to clap in time with the music?

  • @jamma246 What is it with idiots attempting to clap at a metal show period....

  • @ThorTheOdinSon Totally agree. Watch videos of old gigs (I'm particularly thinking of some big prog bands). The crowd would be quiet and you could hear the music properly, unspoiled by people clapping and idiots screaming. The music could be quiet when it needed to be and loud when it wanted to be. If opeth wanted clapping noises and people yelling in their music, they'd have put it in the original recording.

  • @jamma246 That always happens, regardless the artist.

  • TURN UP THE BASSIST! :<

  • @demidevil666 The bass is definitely audible here.

  • man I miss his growls so bad

  • @MetallicOpeth me too, it seems to be like he can't growls like this anymore... :(

  • @DemonFromPerdition Wait what? why wouldn't he? Ofc he can still growl, the new cd is just a different direction.

  • @TheMonolithany Well I have heard him growl in his newest gigs and he doesn't sound the same...

  • 0:01 - 10:08 <3

  • 2:31-3:15,3:40,4:00,4:43,6:20,6:39,6:48-7:12.7:16,8:56-10:08 ♥ the best song by Opeth

  • Can't wait for Brixton! :D

  • 03:41 \m/ epic ORGASM!!!

  • 6:29 EPIC OPETH FAN!!!

  • Is it acceptable to want to fuck Mikael's death growl?

  • 3:42 MIKAEL FAPPING TIME =D

  • ha ha , I just noticed after watching this vid several times that the face on the screen behind them looks like the actor Leam Neisen.

  • where's the HQ? I don't see that...

  • @RXFake This is HQ. Patrol here.

  • Audience odd time fail.

  • By far the best live performance ive seen from any band

  • view number 66,667. Damn how metal this video was before I came.

    -kills self-

  • Opeth is awesome! They have an awesome range of sound and Mikael is one of the best metal vocalists ever! The new song is definitely different without his signature growls and music is a bit different but their sound definitely shines through. it's all about evolution, nothing stays the same..

  • How in the fuck does he do that with his voice!? Mikael Akerfeldt is one of the best vocalists out there.

  • i love martin mendez's hair so muuuch!

  • I might like this better than Dream Theater if they growled less... oh well, it's still awesome

  • @drummerdude7318 FYI, they have a record without growling, it's called Damnation. No distorted guitars or double bass. Åkerfeldt said that their new album, Heritage, which will be released this year, does not contain very much growling. Dream Theater is an excellent band too.

  • Damn i luv that man <3 that hair and fucking beast voice oh my god

  • is it legal to have that voice??

man, i discovered this band today so its kind of historical xd

i fucking love it and i dont know why

i dont like deah neither growl voice but mikael is a monster and i cant help

  • @SebaChannel Same lol, Opeth is like the only death metal band I can stand to litsen to

  • @SebaChannel check out his work with Bloodbath!

  • @SebaChannel i love death metal purely because so many of the bands have a lyricist that can SCREAM to get the adrenaline rolling...then vocalize the crowd to a giant dripping vagina while the guitarist and drummer make you melt to pieces......but this shit right here...this shit right here nigga....Wow....

  • @SebaChannel Welcome to the wonderful world of metal, my friend. You are looking at one of the very finest examples of it.

  • @SebaChannel i fucking gree, i don't like death metal either but this is too fucking awesome to ignore

  • Wow this band has very loyal fans.

  • @FrikinVolde11 Oh hell yes, Know all the lyrics.

  • yep..WAAAY better than dream theater

  • why compare? honestly

  • i changed to black shirt before watching this..

  • these guys are really good (still like nevermore tho that is my favorite progressive metal band)

  • Opeth live, June 5th Live in Bucharest. I will be there! \m/

  • I like Opeth.

    I like Dream Theater.

They´re both proggressive in their own ways.

    I prefer Opeth..

  • I like Opeth.

    I like Dream Theather.

They´re both proggressive in their own ways.

    I prefer Opeh..

  • I got bored at 10:09

  • 10 minutes and still too short

  • you know your bad ass when you dont have to dance around like fags to get the attention of the audience

  • I got tickets to the Sonishpere Festival in Knebworth, UK. I'll be seeing the big 4, Motorhead, Mastodon... but I'm actually more excited about seeing Opeth than any other band.

    Long live Opeth!!

  • @Ueichen

i would look forward to opeth and mastodon the most.

  • Weird Metal...but i like it

  • dream theater is better if u like fast playing and thats it, the sounds of opeth live and just the genious behind thier music takes the cake when i compare them to dream theater... but hey thats just my view

  • @sphincter1717 And of course we don't respect the view of somebody who can't spell "genius" correctly.

  • Oh, how heavy the part around 4:20 is ._.

  • I wouldn't say they're better than DT... but they are their equals....

  • both Opeth and Dream Theater are badass as fuck. why would anyone make the comparison?

  • London based Progressive Metal Band seeking bass player. Huge Opeth fans!!

  • @IsurusBand aww too bad mate i'm from new york and i play bass and i'd love to be in a progessive metal group.. i can send you guys recordings?

  • This is the most demanding music I've ever heard in my life!

  • I probabaly prefer Opeth but DT is really good too, for me their really similar. Opeth is just alot darker and has more folk type stuff in their music....and yah DT's singing can get annoying but they do some pretty sweet prog ballads!

  • who ever dislikes this should just die

  • Unlike Dreamtheatre at least Opeth's singing doesn't sound like a a monkey on steroids and annoying tuneless keyboard solo's

  • Yeah I'm starting to like opeth a lot but I personally think dream theater is more talented and experienced. Not saying that opeth can't get to where DT is today.

  • Dream theatre sucks

  • @bl00dr3dxxx just because you don't like them doesn't mean they suck... Opeth is better but dream theater is good too

  • Wow, that is not so much a musical trip as it is an odyssey.

  • Better than Dream Theater: I think not!

  • Mikeal Akerdelft would be a great president.

  • I'm glad the use PRS's

  • much jizz has occurred.

  • mikael akerfeldt is my favorite singer

  • do you know how cool it would be to have a growl voice like him? i would reply like that to all my fuckin teachers at school.

  • @SASPython Ya dude, his growl is fucking beast!

  • @SASPython I've came very close to his growl...it's awesome to shout at people like that...the just stare and start walking fast xD

  • That guy has such an beautiful voice.

  • this is SO much better than dream theater

  • @hajlajfftw uhhhhhhhh sorry but no

  • @hajlajfftw This is so much DIFFERENT than Dream Theater. It's all about personal taste/opinion. Only idiots make such comparisons.

  • @metalrules13 The only reason people seem to compare them is because the song length is similar. I don't understand it either.

  • @hajlajfftw how can you make that comparison? that's also just like, your opinion man

  • @hajlajfftw This Shit is the same as Dream Theater, but this is the Death Metal version of Them! \m/

  • @ripperpp16 How dare you insult Opeth by saying they are the same as Dream Theater? DT wishes they could be this awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • @metalwillhatecrew --' Akerfeldt's favourite band is DT, my two favourite bands are Opeth and DT, it's not an insult in any manner to say that Opeth is somewhat like them, every band would like to ear that compliment... I said that about Opeth in a good way :)

  • @hajlajfftw you're not right man, its definitely not better than Dream Theather, this is another opera...

  • @mrdeathamore You're not right. Dream Theater are awful whereas Opeth are amazing.

  • @metalwillhatecrew

you're not in the position to diss on dream theater considering you like children of bodom enough to include them in your filename. dream theater are amazing, if you diss on them you're dissing on opeth as well considering how much they have influenced opeth.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

This is total bullshit. Hating the influences doesn't make you hate the band. I fucking hate The Beatles but they influenced a shitload of my favourite bands. Not only that, but Mikael said himself that the inspiration for Opeth songs DOES NOT COME FROM METAL, so it certainly doesn't come from fucking Dream Theater.

Dream Theater sucks. Get over it.

  • @21stCSchizoidName

"I don't see the point of playing in a band and going just one way when you can do everything. It would be impossible for us to play just death metal; that is our roots, but we are now a mishmash of everything, and not purists to any form of music." direct quote from mikael, you fail. i would also like to see you give a valid reason why dream theater sucks because they obviously don't.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

    Reasons why Dream Theater sucks:

-Their songs are long for the sake of being long, and often meander

-Showy, boring soloing comprises a large part of their music

-They try too hard to be progressive and fail in the process --> pretentious

    -Their vocalist blows chunks

Whether or not you believe these reasons are valid is up to you; they're valid enough for me.

  • @21stCSchizoidName

oh, and you know what's funny about your statements about why dream theaters sucks is that YOU AREN'T PART OF THE BAND. how would you know how they songwrite again? you don't. i can tell you first hand that very odd time signatures, complexity, and long songwriting comes instinctively after a while. it's not that they're trying to be complicated, their styles just are complicated.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

Sticking every nook and cranny of your songs with odd times and flashy solos comes off as extremely pretentious to me. Not only that, but making sure your songs exceed a certain length (they're guilty of this especially on their most recent albums) comes off as such as well. The fact that their songs are meandering and often have completely irrelevant sections points to trying hard too--when in doubt, stick in a solo or a boring, slow, 'proggy' part!

  • @21stCSchizoidName

please, a nightmare to remember was long, but it was extremely tasteful the whole way through and never got boring. you see, this what happens when people don't listen to enough classical, they think that everything is overly complicated and extremely long. if you diss on dream theater for those reasons you're basically saying classical is crappy too. i never said they didn't have rock influences, but even mikael says that their core is death metal.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

Have you looked at my profile? My name, even? I adore complex music. But when you start to ape post-CttE Yes (yes, Dream Theater is almost at the same level of pompousness as that) and add in a bunch of metal clichés, that's when your music starts to become ridiculous. If you want tasteful long songs, try Larks' Tongues in Aspic 1, Close to the Edge, Thick as a Brick, all the songs from VdGG's Pawn Hearts... no goddamn clichés, no showy solos.

  • @21stCSchizoidName

metal cliches? dream theater does NOT use any metal cliches, they might be the least cliche band of all time. showy solos? how do you know that john does that just to show off and doesn't enjoy doing it? you don't because you're not john and his solos are melodic and tasteful anyways.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

Everybody enjoys showing off. Obviously he doesn't have the self-restraint to calm the fuck down. His solos may be melodic when examined from a theory standpoint but they sound like cacophony; tasteful, they definitely aren't. When I refer to clichés, I refer to their pretty generic chugging riffs--but maybe me calling that a cliché is a sign that I'm starting to enjoy metal less and less.

DT the least cliche band--even in metal? You ought to broaden your musical horizons.

  • @21stCSchizoidName

look at my file and look under "bands and artists i appreciate" and if you think i need to broaden my horizon then you are the god of music. they hardly ever chug, and when they do it's not the generic deathcore chugging crap. "His solos may be melodic when examined from a theory standpoint but they sound like cacophony; tasteful, they definitely aren't." it sounds good to me and several other dt fans. just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not good.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

So you pretty much listen exclusively to music with guitars in it. Like I said, broaden your musical horizons. Check out the underground scene and you'll find more talent than Dream Theater could ever hope to have.

Also, there are people who think Brokencyde sounds good. That doesn't make them any more listenable.

  • @21stCSchizoidName

yeah, because apparently herbie hancock, yuki kajiura, vivaldi, beethoven, and nas are exclusively guitar musicians! i have dabbled in more underground music than 99.9% of the people that have ever lived on this planet. from milan polak, to yuki kajiura, to aeveron, to derdian, the list goes on. over 50% of the bands i list are underground. also, you're comparing brokencyde, an entirely computer generated band to dream theater. epic fail.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

What the fuck does being 'computer generated' have to with anything? ANYONE can learn to play an instrument well, only a few have the talent to actually do it with. Whether or not you take the easier route and use electronics to make music is irrelevant, there are plenty of electronic artists who make good music (Venetian Snares, to name one).

I'd suggest you stop using the phrase "epic fail", it's not helping the image I have of you.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

Anyway--of course you have a couple of artists who make music with only a little/without guitars on that list. It's an xbox huge list. But what ís on there is predominantly guitar music (i.e. rock, metal and some punk); hence "_pretty much_ exclusively". Besides, the artists you do name that make guitarless music are pretty much entry-level to their respective genres: you may like them, but I think it's safe to say that your taste mostly goes out to rock/metal... right?

  • @21stCSchizoidName

no, most of the specific guitarists i mention play fusion which is by far my favorite genre for the past couple of months. as for bands, it's mostly metal. at least 15 genres of metal within that list, but yes, it's still metal. rock too, but the majority f "bands" i listen to are rock and metal, but most bands in the world involve guitars in them anyways, and i leave out a lot of the jazz and classical artists i enjoy on my list.

  • @21stCSchizoidName

continuing: "We started with death metal and moved on to a hybrid of everything else; there were never as into extreme music, so we come from completely different backgrounds. But they were very influential to me in the early days of this band." he is responding to a question of whether dream theater influenced him or not. you fail in every way possible.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

    >>in the early days of this band

Ha, I'm not surprised. The Dream Theater 'influences' do sort of shine through in their first two albums, in that those albums comprised of the same long and meandering songs DT made. Except Mikael has outright said he was growing to dislike the sound they had going on there, and I can't blame him: those albums are too long and just boring-ass Gothenburg melodeath knock-offs.

But I'll stand corrected; it's the right thing to do.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

The only way in which early Opeth was progressive is in the length of their songs. The true progressive influences started with My Arms, Your Hearse and continued growing from there. 'The Drapery Falls' has one of their most progressive parts ever (the 5/8 middle section), the album Damnation is straight-up prog rock and Watershed is arguably their most progressive album yet.

  • @21stCSchizoidName

that's what i meant. dream theater's songs are almost always very long and i didn't see any death metal band making songs that long (except maybe death) at the time so that's probably how they were influenced by them.

  • @21stCSchizoidName

oh, and ONE more thing. there is a difference between hate and disrespect. hating somebody's influences does not mean you hate the band, but disrespecting them means you are also disrespecting the part of the band that was influenced by them. in this case you are dissing the progressiveness of opeth seeing as how that's most likely how they were influenced by dream theater most.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

You must be completely deluded to believe that Mikael's progressive influences are from Dream Theater and not from the 70s prog bands such as King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, and obscure bands like Comus. He says that pretty much everytime he's asked in interviews: when he writes metal music, he is not _influenced_ by metal music. Opeth was _not_ influenced by Dream Theater; if any modern prog band did influence them, it's Porcupine Tree.

  • @hajlajfftw i know it's your own opinion, but you can't really say that because you can't even compare them. TOTALLY FUCKING DIFFERENT.

  • @Mechanix1911 You can compare anything. And they're both in the realm of progressive metal. And Opeth is better.

  • @Drezin86 you can compare them if you like, but you need some way to compare them, and everybody's got their own taste in music. i like both dream theater and opeth, and they play quite different styles of progressive metal, so please dont oversimplify things by saying they're just prog metal, it doesnt mean they can be compared that easily.

  • @hajlajfftw

Not that you can really compare the both.

Sure, they both play Prog metal, but the sounds are two totally different worlds.

Big love to both of 'em

  • @XGLDF

    @Mechanix1911

Okey you retards, I just told my opinion. I am not comparing them, I'm just saying that dream theater suck and that Opeth is one of the best progressive death metal band in the world.

  • @hajlajfftw Opeth one of my fav bands, unique style, you cant compare with dream theater, dream its about complexity, virtuosity, opeth its so diferent, more powerfull, Better vocals

  • @hajlajfftw AAAAAWWWWW YEEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!

  • @hajlajfftw fuck u both r massively amazing

  • @hajlajfftw Fuck u and people who gave you thumbs up. Both are awesome in their own way.

  • @hajlajfftw ben and jerries ice cream is SO much better than hand made itaian shoes...(both fantastic in differnt ways)

  • @hajlajfftw well it sure is heavier and it sure is "progressivier"

  • @hajlajfftw

    like em both tbh.

  • @hajlajfftw masters

  • After loving Damnation, I decided to check out more of Opeth's music. They have the best of everything all in one! Death growls, calm complex melodies, blazing fast double kick, and magnificent singing. I love OPETH \M/

  • I got chills at 2:48

  • they should be at least as famous as megadeath or pantera, altough they arent the same style; opeth from the complexity is at least as good

  • @sebiis18 and SO amazing live its unbelievable. they deserve even more fame, and the only reason that theyre not is because mainstream metal (<<not a bad thing! ;)) took over the 95% of the whole scene :(

  • @sebiis18 Opeth is the Metallica of Death Metal... any fan of True Metal will agree with that. Whether or not they're recognized that way by the mainstream is irrelevant when it comes to this genre. The only difference is that Opeth hasn't come out with a "Load" equivalent yet. Watershed is their Black Album (in a positive way, obviously.) Please god don't make a Load equivalent. Opeth has done for Death Metal what Metallica did for Thrash. Evolve it, Perfect it, and put it on the map.

  • @CrackeTheSkull Opeth is NOT a Death Metal band!

  • @metalrules13 Was that a Joke? There's no way you can argue that their earlier albums weren't death metal. Not the traditional grindcore shit but Progressive/Melodic Death Metal.

  • @CrackeTheSkull Nope, Opeth was never really Death Metal. They had some Death Metal elements (mostly of Melodic Death Metal), but that doesn't make them a Death Metal band. A lot of people think that they are DM because of the vocals, and they can be classified as Progressive Death Metal, but they didn't "evolve" Death Metal or anything. They just took a few of the genre's elements and played a different style.

Btw, grindcore is not Death Metal either.

  • @metalrules13 Wait, what? So, they can be classified as a Progressive DEATH METAL band, yet they aren't Death Metal? C'mon man, what the hell?

They evolved it in the sense that they layed out the blueprint for a newer, more unique style of Death Metal (or Normal Metal, whatever you want to call it) Never before Opeth did I see a band blend that type of Growling and Normal Singing vocals together in one song and make it work. Not many bands have used it yet but eventually the scene will catch on

  • @CrackeTheSkull I know what you mean, but I think that it's not an evolution, but a completely different style. The Death Metal vocals are just one of the several aspects of Opeth's sound. Personally, I refer to Opeth as Progressive Extreme Metal.

And yeah, they were one of the first bands to combine clean singing and growling, although their friends in the band "Edge Of Sanity" did it a few years earlier than Opeth. Great band btw, if you like Opeth you'll definite
