Thanks for making this video. Exceller and Secretariat were my beloved horses grandpas and she just passed away on 12/15/11 (She was 19, just like Secretariat). And, Exceller's death makes me cry. No horse deserves to die that way. I thought it was a swedish slaughter house, but maybe he was shipped to Japan. Either way, so messed up.

barbaro wasn't just uthenized after 8 months they were going to retire him and let him be a stud and pasture horse until the january day they found out he had a hoof disease and it was untreatable and they didn't want to see him suffer so they put him down
BTW you can't say i am wrong i heard it from the owners mouth it was on a western channel that had all about horses it was horse's life and the owners said that they were going to put him down
Wow!It's not just these famous horses.Every year 900 horses die in the US alone on the racetrack and most that retire that were luck not to break down end up in slaughter houses...Many breeder's don't care where they go and i don't want to believe that! horses are just like us. Ruffian was not immeadietly put down after she broke her leg.They operated on Ruffian all through the night but to no avail, she began running and ripped the cast off upon coming out of the anesthesia, causing further damage to her leg. The men and the vets around her had tried to perform a miracle surgery and it had only furthered her agony. Shortly after 2 am, Ruffian was put down, and she was free to run once more. She was buried at belmont park with her nose pointed towards the finish line.
they didnt perform a second surgery because she barely survived the first one she had to be revived at least twice she broke her other leg i belive and i know she broke her elbow and undid the surgury there was no way to save her
i also read some where that Secretariat's trainer said she might have been faster then him anyways i love these horses why the heck do they send retired horses to slaughter seriocly just for our need i hate elmers glue why? you ask cause they use a part or the horse like the bones or something i hate slaughter -_- if i ever am president im gonna stop ill make a law stateing you CANT send ANY horse to a slaughter house wait scratch that ALL animals thats just creul what they do to these animals!

actually you got the stallpart right, but when she was asleep, she thought she was still racing and started to run while still laying on her side, shehit her Leg on the wall and cracked it more, she was finaly put down. I have to admit, the tribute to Seabiscuit seems rather out of place, given that these are all horses that met their ends on the track or at the hands of thieves. Yes, he broke his leg, but he came back to run again and lived to be about 14. If you're going to commemorate him, why not mention every other great racehorse that has died? Where's Eclipse? Seattle Slew? Whirlaway?
This was a great video , The only thing is that it really aggravates me that they didnt go into full detail about how barbaro actually died , He did shatter his leg but thats not what killed him , His leg healed fine , It was going back to normal but then he got laminitus and thats what killed him , But i like the video :)

technically all race horses share a b-day so barbaro was 4 years old when he was put down but his date of birth he was put down 3 months before

Ruffian was operated on and when the anesthesia wore off she shattered her leg again and had to be euthenized.
One of the horses in the video was captioined as having died at the ripe old age of 15. Horses live 30 years....
