  • i'm sick of people saying this is a technical random shred, please expand your music references. This is a bebop/jazz lick style, it has already been applied in mid 1940's. look up Django Reindhart, Grant Green or Wes Montgomery, a lot of chromaticism, diatonic stuff, outside note & jazz characterized by fast tempo. it's much more harder to understand than your typical neo-classic & pentatonic shred cliches - and the reason why this video is a lot less appealing to simple audiences

  • If Emil wants you to see his guitar, you shut up,and you see Emil's guitar.

  • Okay, Emil just managed to show us his new guitar, showed what finish it had, said what the pickups were, that it had a trem, and what size neck it had, he advertised his new record, played an epic superfast lick, played it again, and then played it slow.

All in just over a minute. Emil Wrestler, you are one crazy fast person...

  • tabs anyone?

  • I wanted to see the riff, i honestly couldn't give a shit about your guitar

  • Sounds like some of the swept notes got into a car wreck with the scale notes and it turned into a video game soundtrack for Mega Man

  • this really sounds way better when played slower

  • This actually probably sounds good with the respective chords played at the same time in the background that he is outlining

  • I hate the word "technicality". Makes playing music sound like building a microchip. I care about the art itself and nothing more. Make it in a computer for all I care.

  • Sounds waaaaay better when slowed down

  • yeah well , I bet you can't play mustang sally on my rusty trombone !

  • Betcha can't afford this..?

  • nice picking tech

  • What did you just prove by playing that fast? Was that the work of an artist? or just notesoup?

  • yer right, what do i owe ya?

  • betcha cant talk this quick

  • 0:48

    "suck it"

was the first thing that came to my mind when he turned the volume knob

  • Some Django here.

  • it may be technically complex, but that does not mean it sounds good.

  • i just owned myself

  • Classic bebop lick.Nice.

  • i bet i can. play a scale for cryin out loud! really fast. does anyone know what music was or is for anymore? this music is equal to rap.

  • @aqueenowlbee

Except this is a bebop style lick...

    ... Yeah... Awkward...

  • @allyourfriendsuck it is still a scale played really fast. it sucks, im not impressed. and i can play that. the hardest thing to play is robert johnson and slow blues from the heart. if you disagree try it.

  • @aqueenowlbee

I don't entirely disagree. However, emotion is subjective - no matter what its in relation to.

Also, I don't believe any of the "Betcha Can't Play This," segments are supposed to invoke emotion and are completely reliant on technical ability.

  • @allyourfriendsuck emotion is a part of a particular groups ethics. the particular "emotional" response is triggered by an external stimulus. audio. there is nothing that requires one, should i say there is nothing in this form of music that would even prod one to quietly reflect upon humanity. it is a case of form without content. screw what you think about emotion, and find the correct definition of music. and your definition of subjective pertaining to emotion. they contrast.

  • @aqueenowlbee

Yeah, I see how my statement was contrasting in the way that I said emotion was subjective and then later that this was a bout of skill. But what if people are emotionally moved by skill? That's all that needs to be addressed. I should have phrased myself a bit more clear. I'm not looking for an argument, that's silly. And there's more than one person who has access to this account, so, keeping it civil is more my thing than the other guys.

  • @allyourfriendsuck when i was young i worship kurt cobain. i bowed my head to the idol that was Nirvana. i look back now and see that they were talentless, and what they did had nothing to do with music, and everything to do with looking and acting a certain way. all i am saying is that everyones definition of music is an error. the definintion of culture is an error. people dont live their lives they act certain parts. the world is literally a stage. i have nothing against you. peace.

  • Holy shit. I wasn't crazy on the tone but that shit was crazy.

  • I dont care for your guitar !

  • awesome lick, definetly different which is what makes it good, real musicianscan only understand. hehe Check out my "betcha cant play this" on my channel. I would appreciate the feedback.

  • Great Lick

  • I know I'll probably never play something like like this, so the phrase "Betcha can't play this" is fitting.

I just don't understand why it's so popular to play a nonsense guitar solo like that.

  • @MinorityofOneBAND its not exactly nonsense.

  • @MinorityofOneBAND

It is a demonstration of skill.

  • I love metal and rock but i just don't get some of these types of videos why play so fast when you can take the time and make it sound better by throughing something kick ass like dimebag did when he would just through in a badass pinch harmonic squeal

  • @mintytits

Look at the title of the freaking video. It is betcha cant play this. Were you expecting a heartfelt guitar riff? It's like going on a Fleshgod Apocolypse video and being dissapointed that they didn't play blues.

  • I don't even want to play that...

  • @2Girls1Rossen i do its fucking tits bro.

  • And thats why I love Emil's playing!

  • Good lick, Bad tone.

  • Based on the first half of the video, I thought that it was a "Betcha Can't Play This" because the guitar is his and you literally can't play it.

  • I totally get that Betcha Can't Play This is just to showcase shred, but this was probably worse than Trivium's BCPT. And his was pretty bad -_-

  • @Grunge00125

Someone obviously can't stand anything other than a Major Tonality...

  • @Grunge00125: You're joking right?

  • Niiiiiice !

  • He has a very rare style than most guitarists. Thats good.

  • And this is why I gave up guitar..

  • soooo nuts

  • speeded up.for sure

  • Why speed up the video?

  • the fuck

  • ok well yes I can't play that but did you have to make me feel like shit about my playing???

  • I don´t want to play this.

  • So betcha can't Shred

  • his fingers literally change positions in less than one frame and appear to be instantly in a different position 30 times a second. it's strobing my brain and i think im gonna have a seizure.

  • yeah, i bet i can't. FuK!!!!!!!

  • holy shit

    that was fast

  • no. i fuckign can't :L

  • hmm jazzy lick :D

  • everyone always seem to do some kind of bend at the end of these licks

  • "Yo what up, im pretty much the biggest ass hole in the world...let me brag about this guitar then shamelessly promote this album, oh yea....i can play a very annoying lick ....

  • @JazzyPhil59 jealous much

  • @rockon3691 trololol much

  • @JazzyPhil59 you're a very annoying lick.

  • @metallica5252 ah maturity at its best ....

  • "Yo what up, this is Anal from Daath here."

  • Dude is so friggin beast. His use of chromatics is definitely quite different, I must say.

  • Would've been nice to hear something this sweet recorded through an interface and not just from a SD camcorder mic.. ):

  • @DJ0TraCeur you can see and hear every note being played with complete clarity...what more do you want?

  • @noobsauce Studio quality with minimal noise would've been lovely.

If this was any ordinary shred it would've been perfectly good, but I just thought that seeing how it was particularly awesome it would've been nice to achieve maximum quality.

  • @DJ0TraCeur I can see where you're coming from. I prefer the raw audio, anybody can make anything sound good with post-production. It takes skill to sound like this on the fly.

  • can anyone tell me what happened?

    i died for 1 minute

  • sounded cool to me................

  • I wouldn't want to. Not practical. That didn't even sound cool.

  • Betcha cant play this---in any musical situation. You're right!

  • i liked this betcha cant play this so much for some reason i wish i could play it at full speed but i can play it fast just not that fast(yet...)

  • that blew. sounds like shit. looks like shit. balls

  • i think it sounded better when it was played slower lol

  • Hi, I'm Emil Werstler from Daath, and you can't play this.

  • Hey, yo, this is Emil from Daath, I betcha you can't afford this.

  • this is shit.

  • i hear speed...but no music...

  • @LawrenceMartinek2

I'm sorry for breaking your bubble, but a flurry of fast-picked RANDOM notes that happen to be linked by a few scales, going nowhere, are really a sorry excuse for a piece of 'music', this doesn't have anything to do with 'understanding'.

  • @OpethToolMetallica this isnt a piece. this is a shred to showcase his ability. this isnt meant to be particularly musical. though its in no way random

  • @OpethToolMetallica however it is fast without argument, linking multiple scales with passing tones is respectable. if this was played slow it would sound like modern day JAZZ. simple people understand simple music. musicians appreciate the virtuoso. but since you cant appreciate this i guess this makes you a simple person. go listen to overrated metallica.

  • @noctambulant89

I was replying on how this was supposed to be music.

'Linking multiple scales...is respectable', but this is not music, unless you think speed and 'complexity' for its own sake is music.

Musicians appreciate the virtuoso who didn't forget music is an expression of the mind.

Schuldiner and Friedman are good examples who can combine virtuosity and expression.

And I guess you're a simple person for judging so fast. At least I don't listen to shitty Weezer...

  • @OpethToolMetallica

True, music is an expression of the mind, however in the context of what this video is supposed to be, its not supposed to be a complete composition or expression, its supposed to be a demonstration of Virtuosity. I'm defending the lick displayed in the video. and what does weezer even have to do with anything?

  • @OpethToolMetallica

i found what you ment by the weezer, someone else was on my youtube account at the time most likely

  • @OpethToolMetallica of course it is music. When you do lead, you would mix up scales, to run down certain chords in the thytm section. That creates space for more variety and bad ass chops. If your a metallica fan, then you certainly would know how boring a solo can sound over the same note! this is like a appegio scale, picked all the way down, with some diminished shifts. For its own sake, music is your own understanding as a listener. Music is a individual thing.

  • @noctambulant89 I love how you refer to people who happen to like certain types of music as 'simple people'... elitists like you turn people away from getting into theory.

  • @FecklessCretin

I'm referring to "simple people" as someone who does appreciates the technicality and creativity of this lick. Its not typical of whats usually heard and thats why i use the term "simple people" the average music listener does not hear things like this and doesn't understand them, but when they bash it I feel its only right to defend it. elitism doesn't turn people away from theory, laziness and lack of passion does.

  • @noctambulant89 laziness & lack of passion, or seeing these kind of attitudes, the attitude that having an understanding of this kind of technical playing prevents them from appreciating things less technically impressive

  • @LawrenceMartinek2 One of truest statements on Youtube ;-)

  • @NSCGalaxy Seeing as your only upload is a poorly produced pop instrumental, I understand why you wouldn't hear the music.

  • Comment removed

  • @NSCGalaxy fail.

  • @Djobohobo epic fail...

  • @NSCGalaxy I took a look at your upload, LOL WTF IS THAT SHIT, now I understand why you are musically retarded..

  • @JaspaEmorta. Seeing how you have no video uploads, I understand why your a comment cunt. Ps. Go Fuck yourself.

  • @NSCGalaxy and on the title i saw "betcha can't PLAY this" not "betcha can't FEEL this"

  • @ThePlasticguitarguy1 dude there's like a million comments on this page and I'm sad you actually had time to read them all. Please go ride someonelses vertual dick and stop sticking up for a musician who doesn't even fucking know you...

  • SICK

  • this vid can actually cut the first 30 seconds

  • No & i wouldnt what to play it tbh!!!

  • 0:33 - 0;48 SPEEDED UP WHATA FUCKIN RETARDED FACE UGLY BITCH HAHAHAHA;O

    pathetic...

  • @BiedaQ you are completely retarded. When they show his entire body, watch how slow his head moves while his hands are making lightning look slow. Don't be mad just because you could NEVER get to his level of skill. Fucking douche.

  • @survivor228returns YES, thats the point! Look at the whole body in the end when he's moving his arms.

Head is moving along with the playing hand , thats why it looks slow, because hand itself moves very slow up on fretboard. Chill out kid, I dont give a fuck about my guitar skills cuz im a drummer;)

  • And how will he call his solo project? iwerstledabearonce!

  • what a wicked guitar player!

  • looks sped up at :45 cause of the way they synced the video

  • that's fucking jazz

  • woow!! respect!! ... i just wanna cry... shit!

  • Wow... one of the best 'Betcha's' I've ever seen... this guy can REALLY play!

  • Crashed my computer again.

  • A lot of chromatic passing tones in that lick.

  • One of my favorite modern guitarists

  • lol speed up the vid

  • if you think this is bad then you are bad enough said

  • shit, all picked. respect.

  • lol

  • This guy managed to:

    1) Talk about his brand new PRS

    2) Talk about the color

    3) About the pickups

    4) About the tremolo and the neck

    5) Give info about his band's upcoming record

    6) Play his Betcha you cant play this lick once

    7) Play it twice

    8) Then play it slow.

It took him 1 minute... HE IS ULTRA FAST

  • @geokar16 I bet it took you longer to write this than it did for him to do all that! haha

  • holy shit

  • the sound of the amp sucks, even my little shit amp does a better sound

  • @M47riX1 No, it doesn't. You're hearing the noise from the strings being picked. His amp is fine.

  • that sounded horrible.....

  • @cometothepartay True, Betcha can't play it though.

  • piece of piss...

  • Betcha has 52 accounts

  • It sounds totally awesome slowly. But played fast, I can't follow the chord progression with just those notes.

  • i taught that was chris broderick for a few seconds

  • hahahaa, the people lashing about this thing don't know shit about playing guitar! that lick is amazingly hard and amazingly well played. it sounds like shit for untrained ears only

  • @fredsik

Lol... I can honestly say that I don't have an "untrained ear". It just sounds shit. I agree that is hard and well executed. But that doesn't change the fact that it might sound shit to people.

  • "HEY GUYS! CHECK OUT MY GUITAR! Oh btw, betcha can't play this!" *Shreds the fuck out of my face*

  • His playing is pretty fucking clean. Why do you even bother to hate? Its a nice lick.

  • Somewhere out there, Paul Gilbert just crapped a load in his pants.

  • He's using a 1w transistor for amp? shit sound and shit volume

  • Not for technical ability, or speed, or even the shred pattern itself.... just this guys Attack he has over EVERY note is to precicion, never seen him before, but ill watch out for him from now on! DAYUM!

  • Betcha dont wanna play this, cuz it sounds like SHIT!

  • Honestly, I can play this by pressing the play button

  • this is one of the only decent betcha cant play this videos wit a death metal guitarist in it

  • speed x4 ...what a shithead.. !

  • WTF I WANNA HEAR THE AMP NOT THE STRINGS

  • Nope, can't play it.

  • ...PAUL WAGGONER!

  • dude don't flip me off XD

  • I don't doubt I can't play this, but I bet i can have a smaller introduction!!

  • YO WADDUP HOME BREW YEAH YEAH HOMIE YO

  • ok you won the bet

  • i betcha i wouldn't wanna play this...

  • u know what i can play this lol jk

  • manouche influenced?!

  • i was shocked by the bullshit-like quality of his tone, his playing and the video in general.

  • You know, Emil, I bet I can't play that too...

  • @joshTHFRO THEN GET IT!!!! You only live once!!

  • Sweet pineapple chest hair this guy is good xD

  • @joshTHFRO No, you're right! I was just so excited cus mine just came a couple of days before, then I fell upon this video. PRS's ARE really nice. I would say the Carvin's like a damn good copy! but still not a PRS.......

  • Who the hell is Daath?

  • "yo what up"

  • He's right, I can't play this. Nevertheless Emil can play a lot faster than he does in this video, there is a video of him on YouTube here doing sweeps at about four times the speed on a clean channel and there are no mistakes. Truly, this man is amazing.

  • my new carvin is way nicer and was 1/4 the price...... just my opinion. nice axe tho
