i love this city! i moved there in 2004 and left nov.08But im saving up to move back.I lost my job and had to move back to Mississippi (Delta).i will return this summer tho.There are lots of homless people's dont talk about'em help someone.I use to be im 29 and ran into some hard times.dats only oldtown china town where they rome.I dont want to live anywhere else but POTLAND OR. but do go to the saturday market. its not as creepy and dark because its now at the waterfront

and how come all videos about portland are in the middle of the winter when its cold and rainy. it makes it look bad. seriously.

oh and go to powells book store, its wayyyyyyy fucking huge!

what else.........oh go to old town pizza (in old town) its fun and the pizza is badass!

and go to the underground tunnels they are hella scary seriously.

Im saving up some money and going to Portland in a few months,I come from Eugene Oregon and I hate it here and can be pretty dangerous at night,even though Portlands much bigger its more spread out and people seem to stay out of trouble compared to here! I dont recommend living in Eugene OR!

1. they don't run year-round, and 2. they don't recycle the water, but they do filter it and put it back into the river, helping the Willamette stay one of the cleanest rivers in the country (which doesn't say much for the rivers of the US)

Can anyone tell me how those public water fountains work? They are always flowing so its one of two possibilities. They waste gargantuan amounts of drinkable water, going down the drain (most likely one). Or the water is somehow recycled (I really doubt that.) I just find it weird that a progressive city like Portland would allow such waste.

As a former employee of the portland water bureau, I can assure you that portland has a massive reservoir called Bull Run and even though the public water fountains "waste" water, this is pure polutant free mountain glacial runoff and is constantly replenished in the human-made watershed. In fact portland has at times, far too much water and allows significant amounts to flow directly from the reservoir to the columbia river completely bipassing the city water system. Portland has a very unique downtown. Normally I would feel uneasy about walking about a large city especially late in the night. But in portland it has a very safe feeling to it. Just don't bother anyone, and you should be alright. Also don't go under bridges at night.
