  • Even though your accent is a bit hard to understand at times, everything eventually makes sense, and I feel your tutorials are excellent, thank you.

  • why on my script-fu only appear layer effects??? huaaaaaaaa :(

  • I put it in scrips but my script-fu still won't show up.. I need help.. can you help me?

  • I get those error messages for the bevel and emboss option and once I get that message all the options in the drop down menu for script fu become unclickable

the path directory is: Program files> Gimp > share > Gimp > 2.0 > scripts

thumbs up so Windows 7 users can install Script-Fu :D

  • @SIurm OMG THANK U!!!!

  • I have looked at a lot of videos on youtube, but this was the easiest of all to follow and update for scipt fu

  • At the beginning I killed my pilllow and hated your accent!! Now Im happy as you did a really great Job and am at peace with ur dutch accent :P

  • For the layer styles to work in GIMP I think you need a layer effect plugin. I don't know, because I already have it. But it makes sense.

  • what about windows 7 path?

  • @HiTherePikachu Probably the same as Vista.

  • Bless you! This was driving me batty!

  • @MeiLinMiranda You're welcome :)

  • How do we make Gimp in single window mode?

  • @XxRavenwishxX One of my first videos is about it, or wait for version 2.8 to come out. That'll have the single window mode option.

  • @GIMPtricks on Gimp2.0 for the Vista Guis the Path to the scm. Files is GIMP2.0 > Share > Gimp > 2.0 > Scripts ...and there you are

  • GIMPtricks, I cannot seem to find the "Keyword Search" in that correct link from GIMP itself. The website is exactly like in your video, except that search is missing. I'm using Mozilla, Windows xp.

  • @queenkong45 You're sure that you clicked on plug-in registry? Search is there for me...

You can also browse alphabetically so browse for the letter L.

  • Hold on, I saved the file in a folder callled scripts then refreshed gimp and the script fu thing didnt come up so i restarted gimp and it still didn't work

  • Thanks

  • I cant find my scripts folder in Gimp, im running windows 7.

  • @gameaddicts1 I'm sorry, I'm not. My guess is that's it the same as Vista, C:\Users\... instead of C:\Documents and Settings\... I think. You can ask on gimpchat [dot] com if you're stuck.

  • @itsprincessfaye On the website where you got the lasyer effects script you can get a lot of other scripts as well. You can install them the same way.

  • @itsprincessfaye Have you followed all the steps in the video? :)

  • Thank you! Helped A LOT!!!

  • Its not working, i keep trying to save it but it gives me a blank download and i cant open it for scripts v.v

  • Does this work for mac?

  • @DumbFrenchFry Yes it does, but I'm not sure where the folder to put the script in is located.

  • @GIMPtricks I found it, thank you! This video was very helpful :)

  • i have windows 7 i just do not know what to do please help please please please:((

  • @XxAmazizinxX I wouldn't know for sure but try the Vista way.

  • @GIMPtricks i saved the thing to my desktop and i just forgot about it.. i have the layersfx.scm or whatever on my desktop im not sure how to put it in the folder you are showing

  • How do you put the script-fu file in the Script Folder?

I have Windows Vista 32 Bit.

Found the path on my system, drag n Dropped it, but an error msg comes up!

How is it really done so that it works properly?

  • @hotlips4000isback2 You should do it like you described. You shouldn't open the file though before you drag and drop it.

  • @GIMPtricks Yeah, i figured it out not long after! ;)

I forgot to "Extract" the file! ;p

Its all done now, and i've also added Fonts/brushes.

Currently making a background for my channel, it's looking good!

Thanks for you're reply, LOVE you're Videos, some great tips ;)

  • @GIMPtricks HOw do you get the Enhance, layer groups, FX-foundry in script you ! the only think i have in there is layer effects and i cant figure out how to get all the other once !

    Plz help me out !

  • @somali9z You have to install the scripts for the things you want. The same way you installed he layer effects script. Most of them can be found at the same website.

  • THANK YOU!!!! ;)

  • All the folders in the part of the C drive you suggest (documents and folders/gimp) are empty. I've put it in the programs/gimp folder and hoping this will work!

  • @muskndusk Yes, they are user folders, empty until the user puts something in it. That way you can keep the program and your personal settings apart.

  • Ik kan het niet verversen :(

  • @maffiamaartenenbryan Gimp opnieuw opstarten ververst het ook.

  • THANKS =D

  • I'm using windows 7 and I can't open the folder. It doesn't want to open and you should be more detailed. You should've shown us first hand instead of just writing the location.

  • @NakedAznCravinBacon Wouldn't have helped you as this was recorded in windows XP.

I just (maybe wrongly) assumed that people know how to find a folder on their computer because it's very basic computer knowledge.

  • I tried down loading onto desk top and got a message telling me windows couldn't open it. So followed the path the second time into the scripts folder and it worked. Not sure what i did wrong the first time i'm using vista

  • @MrWaynemarshall It isn't meant to be opened, but maybe windows tried it anyway, or you accidentally double clicked on it. Anyway, Glad it works now. :)

  • i don't see script after i click folder.

  • @75bari Can you tell where in the video you get lost.

  • I really appreciated the script-fu howto I need that and could not find a tutorial that was clear and understandable. Thanks

  • can u do a tutrial on that pretty plez

  • @wonderemma1

    Are you looking for this:

GIMP tutorial: Installing GIMP themes on Windows(Change the look of GIMP)

  • how did u get ur gimp thing to gray u know the like lyers and tool options how did u change it 2 gray mine is only white and btw i love ur acsent

  • @wonderemma1 With themes. I have a video on it.

  • After I click folders there is no 'Script' for me to press on /:

but, when you say 'two folders pop up' does temporary folder and swap folder appear? because thats what I end up with.

  • how come when i right click it ses save target as but its gry so i cant click on it and i dont know what eles 2 do plez write back

  • @wonderemma1

I have no idea. If you click on it with your left mouse button and download it normally it might work.

If it opens as a weird document with lots of text just save it as layerfx.scm. Close it and put it in the folder I mention in the video.

I hope you get it sorted.

  • i've done everything i saved it as .scm but it dosen't work =( i saved in in plug ins!

  • @michellelofeishyan

You need to save it in scripts.

  • @GIMPtricks thanks so much! it works!

  • When I download it it is just a peice of paper, help please.

  • @SuperKitchenSink

Start again. When you download it right click onit and save target as , or save link as. Do no open the downloaded file. Just put it in the folder I mentioned.

  • @GIMPtricks Should I pack up the files if their stacked as books?

  • @SuperKitchenSink It's just one file.

  • @GIMPtricks I really don't care for this anymore.

  • thank you I love you :D

  • script-fu AKA SCRIPT KUNG-FU lulz

  • Hi GIMPtricks, I am having difficulty with script FU. Have downloaded and refreshed but ScriptFU not showing up.When I looked into the Share Folder in Gimp i can see the file-icon layerfx in there but get following message: Opening C:\Gimp\Gimp2.0\Share\Gimp2.0\NewScriptFu-DL\layerfx.scm FAILED: Unknown File Type. I am using Win XP Pro - service pack 3. Any advice ?

Yr videos are clear, thorough and easy for noobs like me - good job!!

  • @pixelbean

I don't know, apart from the fact that the folder path is unusual. Ask on gimptalk.

  • @GIMPtricks

Thank you for your quick reply. I have posted the same to another Gimp User Forum.

But i think Gimp.org has no forum...

  • @pixelbean gimptalk (dot) com isn't gimp.org.

  • Hi, I am using vista. So i couldnt able to download the layer effects. please explain..

  • @sailu892008

In Vista it's C:\Users instead of C:\Documents and Settings. The rest is the same.

  • Thank you :)

  • i love u u are thee best person on you tube i have one question how can i save it in scripts idk where that is exactly please help me

  • @flap2chowder

You just copy the file called layerfx.scm and paste it in the folder called scripts

You can find your scripts folder by following the path from 1:55 on.

If you don't know how to do that see the second video response to this video. He shows you how to navigate to that folder on your computer.

  • Thank you this was very helpful :D

when i first tried to install scripts, i was pulling my hair trying to figure out why i was get all text XD.

  • Very nice. I had two problem with Gimp to follow this video

    1) on the pathname to script folder, there was one with an accent "é" (my first name, I'm French). So I had to change the script folder in a path with no accent.

    2) the Layer Effect menu was grey (no selection). I had to copy and paste my JPG in a new image (with transparency)

  • @hs51

I've never run across 2). I know the menu is grey when you don't have an image open, but never knew it had to have transparency. You can add transparency to a layer by just right clicking on the layer thumbnail in the layer dialog and click add alpha channel.

  • Excellent video, it was very useful. I always liked gradient colors over a text, now I know how to do that :)

  • omg thanks

  • super handig!

nu weet ik eindelijk hoe het moet!

    heeel erg bedankt!

    xx Iris

  • subbed

  • Thanks. :)

  • Thank you very much m8 !

  • nice video, can we download these patterns?

  • Most of them are already in gimp. :)

  • This is great, finally got Script Fu into Gimp Folder on my Windows Vista Desktop, thankyou! ;)

  • Awesome! Thanks!!

  • YAY thank you so much! *i cant believe that tha other guys didnt find that folder* but thank you. you were to big help. ( i rate 5 stars for that )

  • Thanks. Glad it helped. :)

  • I haven't checked yet, but is there one like this for RGB channels. I am used to elements & that does not have channels. Also, do you know of a way to use the scroll wheel to zoom in & out? I dislike using the magnify tool. Thanks for the vid! Informational.

  • GIMP has channels. You can zoom by using + and - on your keyboard. For me + and - on my numerical keypad work as well.

See my "cool tricks about the gimp interface" video for how to pan in GIMP.

  • Yes. GIMP does have channels. At this point though I am unsure if I can link the channels to individual layers. When I change channels it affects all. I was also wondering if you could adjust the amount with a dialog box. Something I've seen with CS. Still new with these tools so excuse me if I sound the fool. Thank you for the response and look forward to watching your other vids.

  • I suggest you go to the gimptalk forums (just google)and ask there. There is a lot more room for discussion there, then here in the youtube comments and there are more people to help. :)

  • linux ftw :D

  • I don't understand I mean I download it? and then open it?

  • No, after you've downloaded it, put it in the folder on your computer that I show in the video.

Just follow the instructions in the video.

Oh and save your work. Go to file -> save and give it a name, and save it in a folder you'll remember and use the extension .xcf . That way, if something goes wrong, you can continue working on it later.

  • But I don't have that "scripts" folder, how I get it?

  • Go to edit- preferences - folders - scripts in the gimp menu.

There it will tell you where you can find your scripts folder on your computer.

  • What GIMP menu? All it says in preferences is: Temporary folder: tmp.

    Swap folder: .gimp-2.6

  • The menu above the image you're working on.

What operating system do you have? Windows, mac?

  • I have Windows but its not a mac

  • Thanks. Didn't know that by selecting Lock that it would only affect the text. Very good to know.

  • you're welcome.

A lot of gimpers use another method (alpha to selection, you'll come across it) but remember this one, it gives cleaner results. :)

  • i have linux how do i install it then

  • either install the script. You can see where the folder on your computer is by going to edit- preferences - folders - scripts in gimp.

Or install the python version, to see where go to edit - preferences - folders - plug-ins.

Or install both. The python version is a bit different.

  • Thanks you so much hun

  • Great vid.

Pattern overlay now works in "Fu".

  • Cool, did they update it?

I really hope so. This is one script that just needs to work with the upcoming version of GIMP. :)

  • Hoi, Nederlander toch? aan je accent te horen ;b, zou je misschien kunnen laten zien hoe je comic style in kan kleuren?(stijl van bv: spawn), kan er niet echt een goede tutorial van vinden.

Hi, Dutch aint you? ;b can you show me how to color comic style? (like spawn comics or so)

  • Geen idee.

Ik ben bang dat ik niet bekend ben met spawn enzo?

Misschien kun je me een persoonlijk berichtje sturen met een plaatje ervan?

  • i still dun understand...==

  • What is is that you don't understand?

  • The recording software puts it there. You can only see it after the video has been recorded, it's not visible when you are recording.

  • lol 00:10 and for this you need to go to hell

    great tutorial

  • is there a version for mac? or do i need to downlad the linux version?

  • You want the layerfx.scm file. :)

  • it works!! thanks a lot!! ;D

  • Nevermind I got it to work, thank you!!

  • Glad it works now. :)

  • I don't understand the process of transfering the donwload link to GIMP..I downloaded the layerfx.scm and now what do I do with that file? I don't understand..I am using Vista..when I go to Edit then Preferences and I go to folders its says two things- Temporary Folder and Swap Folder..then what I do?? This is soo confusing I just need the layer styles on gimp..

  • Could you tell me why I cannot find the save as when I right click the layerfx.scm or the other one please?

    - Sebastian Hobbs

  • What browser are you using?

It could be "save target as" or "save link as"

  • The same folder link for storing script-fu in XP works for Vista also. :-)
