@sailcats77 The issue is that under "Don't ask, don't tell", If you are found to be gay, you can not serve in the military. Yes, there are unmarried staright men in the military. I am one of them. The majority of those men still date or at least get laid. When the gay guy never brings a date home or even talks about dating/women/whatever he is labelled gay and some assholes will try anything they can to get them kicked out.
Sounds like the issue isn't necessarily that the guy is gay, or that don't ask don't tell is in place, but that there are servicemen who will go out of their way to rat on a fellow service member who is willing to lay down their life for the country. So why continue to make sexuality an issue, when in a professional environment, sexuality has no place? The efforts should be made instead to stop the others from seeking to rat someone out.

The policy should be, what philosophy results in the armed forces most effectively providing the service they're chartered to provide... not necessarily what policy is most politically correct for this point in time.
The policy I think that would ensure the most equality, while maximizing the service's ability to perform, is to purge sexuality from the professional environment, to the extent necessary to stop US soldiers from turning on other US soldiers.

Any professional work environment deserves to be free of personal sex life commentary, and the armed forces are no different.
In my opinion he should have been booed for trying to tie the professional environment of the US Armed Forces to his personal sex life.

You act as if your sex life doesn't come up in the military or any job for that matter, it does. In the military it's even worse. The people you work with, you live with.They want to know if you're married and if not, why? Why don't you date or bring girls home? The world isn't a Disney movie. This is real life where those things are relevant to the people that surround you.

No one's dictating how he lives his life. Only that while serving in a professional environment, to actually be professional. I know for a fact there are many unmarried, straight guys in the service. It's not an issue if it's not made an issue. Gay people seem to purposefully want to make it an issue.

@sailcats77 The issue is that under "Don't ask, don't tell", If you are found to be gay, you can not serve in the military. Yes, there are unmarried staright men in the military. I am one of them. The majority of those men still date or at least get laid. When the gay guy never brings a date home or even talks about dating/women/whatever he is labelled gay and some assholes will try anything they can to get them kicked out.

Sounds like the issue isn't necessarily that the guy is gay, or that don't ask don't tell is in place, but that there are servicemen who will go out of their way to rat on a fellow service member who is willing to lay down their life for the country. So why continue to make sexuality an issue, when in a professional environment, sexuality has no place? The efforts should be made instead to stop the others from seeking to rat someone out.
Sex has no place in professionalism.

The policy should be, what philosophy results in the armed forces most effectively providing the service they're chartered to provide... not necessarily what policy is most politically correct for this point in time.
The policy I think that would ensure the most equality, while maximizing the service's ability to perform, is to purge sexuality from the professional environment, to the extent necessary to stop US soldiers from turning on other US soldiers.

As for the fact of marraige, it became obsolete when women finally gained rights. The tradition of marraige started off as a father exchanging his "property" to another man. The property was the woman herself. Marraige was pretty much a property exchange. Marraige makes no difference. Why does the military even care if someone is gay? personally, I don't think they should be able to get married, but queers should be allowed to fight for their country's freedom if they wish..
