I totally agree that Lysacek skates at a female level, he didn't even have the courage to try a quad, he has such a boring way of skating, he certaintly didn't deserve the gold at Vancouver.
The real athletes from male skating are Evegheny Plushenko and Brian Joubert!
I've got a little question for each of you who is familiar in Russian figure skating: what is the name of a young, distinctive figure skater, whose mother is Russian and father is Nigerian?
I prefer the spins and expressive artistry of a Lambiel, the footwork and transitions of Takahashi, and the natural lines and fluidity of Weir. But Plushenko is a true athlete on ice. Even though he is dubbed a 'jump king' there is so much more to his skating and at least he has his OWN style.
Agree though that he got too complacent and should have had a better, more dynamic program - like this one. Instead he let mediocre Evan (with feathers that he STOLE off Johnny) - steal the night.

And he would have won indeed, if only he had performed one of his usual involving prograrms. He choose a boring music, he skated with less passion than we are used to see from him. In 2002, he lost to Yagudin. This year, he lost to himself, his only possible rival.
@cora797 He's 27, was off compentitions for 3 years and he's got 3 injuries and operations in his life. I guess he did what he can and still was competitive. But I have to say I've found this year Short simply outstanding. The score he's got for it in Vancouver was just unbelievable: he was first but he should have got much more points than it was. About Long: he did it better at the European inTallin. But, looking at both performaces at the Olypics, he still deserved gold.

Someone told me in his official page the silver medal was a Platinum... I do agree. he's the best, he's and artist, and if someone doesn't agree, it's because that someone doesn't like art or lacks of taste...
Plushenko was more breathtaking than Yagudin in 2002. i wish he had won. he missed the 3rd landing of the 4-3-3 combination and turned a triple into a double. but even with those mistakes, his skating was so energetic, so lively, so fast, so fluid, so expressive, so elegant, it still gives me thrills to watch! to me, the 2002 Plushenko was the best male figure skater I've ever seen.
If you think he is the best, you should at least try to write his name properly. And the fact the french Joubert has the same style, doesn't mean, it's the best one.

Medals are awarded for individual performances, not the overall reputation of the skater. While I love Plushenko and think he deserves the title "King of the Ice," his performance at Vancouver fell just a hair short of Lysacek's. Lysacek was best at the Olympics--cleaner, smoother, more polished--fair and square. But this performance at Torino--this was a gold medal performance :)
I was thinking of words to define Fake Tan Evan's Zzzzzkating level...and finally! Female Level! That's it. Maybe Yuna can compete with him at that level ugh and even Mao (who's considering a quad in the 2014 olympics) can beat Lysacek's zzzkating.
No how Plusenko got his such a high second mark I will never know, he is not artistic ....nor did his program have the same levels of footwork or spins, as Stephane, Patrick, Diskue or Evan.

I'm not fan of plushenko. well... honestly I don't like him- but he deserved to win the gold. If olympic game wasn't in north america probably he would win. clearly new judging system isn't fair too.
He wasn't able to skate at his very very best yesterday... I'm so sorry for him. But nevertheless, his talent and Lyacek's are too much different. Plush is a force of nature, Evan is good, but he could never reach the same level as Zhenja. Never. The golden medal should have been given to him, because he's the only one, together with Yagudin, that brought figure skating to such a high level. Bravo, Zhenja, bravo!!
This is my favourite performance of his. Absolutely stunning. Better than this year's, I believe, as he has this inner glow there, he is so passionate and technically perfect...
THIS is what makes me believe in people and in myself in particular. Very inspirational.
He's a very strong skater. He had a pretty serious knee injury a few years ago. I really hope this does not effect his skating in the olympics this year.

I know many people will disagree with me - but I dislike him. The only reason he wins is because he has all of the quads. There are so many male skaters that have amazing grace but only have up to triple lutz or triple axel consistantly. I dont hate him i just dislike him. One of the people like that is Patrick Chan from Canada. I think he is excellent!

Plushenko's not the only competition he's going to have. And I disagree with you. While I find Plushenko's programs to be monotonous at time because of all the jumps, I find Chan's to be just the same, but because of all the footwork. He doesn't have that great a musicality or a big "wow-factor" element, so to me, his programs just look busy, not necessarily better.

He is the best skater in the world...he has proved it so many times..again and again!!!He is not just an athlete,he is an artist!!!!He deserves the gold medal....
He is the King. Nothing else could be said, he is the best! It looks so easily, he has perfect airy style and I am always sure when he jumps that he will not fall down like many other do.

Ну нет в этом танце души. не знаю в чем причина, может музыка не подходящая, или Евгений был не в том настроении, чтобы демонстрировать свои артистические способности.
Видно что программа невероятно сложная, и думаю никто так чисто и красиво не откатал бы, ну не считая Ягудина, который к сожалению по ряду причин покинул большой спорт.
This definitely for me isn't one of his more artistic and interesting programs. But it had enough technical goods to win him the gold. I've seen him so pure and unique... I just wish he'd relive some of his earlier inspiration. I haven't seen anything as exciting as his earlier programs in a very long time.

he is a great jumper.. he has no substance inbetween the jumps. he glides on his blades in way too much and stops aswell, he doesnt skate. sorry , plushenko just isnt' that good to me. patrick chan, stephan lambiel, and the new young czech kid are better in my opinion for skating

This is my favourite performance of his. Absolutely stunning. Better than this year's, I believe, as he has this inner glow there, he is so passionate and technically perfect...

This guy is good, even now after 4 more years have passed....but I cheer for the Japanese skater Takahashi. He is really talented.

He's a very strong skater. He had a pretty serious knee injury a few years ago. I really hope this does not effect his skating in the olympics this year.

I know many people will disagree with me - but I dislike him. The only reason he wins is because he has all of the quads. There are so many male skaters that have amazing grace but only have up to triple lutz or triple axel consistantly. I dont hate him i just dislike him. One of the people like that is Patrick Chan from Canada. I think he is excellent!

I actually think Evgeni PLushenko has horrile artistry/footwork/anything that doesn't involve jumping.

Thankyou! Somebody that agrees! Chan for the podium I say. I doubt he will get the gold because of Plushenko... :-/ Oh well, I still think Chan is a legend :D

Plushenko's not the only competition he's going to have. And I disagree with you. While I find Plushenko's programs to be monotonous at time because of all the jumps, I find Chan's to be just the same, but because of all the footwork. He doesn't have that great a musicality or a big "wow-factor" element, so to me, his programs just look busy, not necessarily better.

He doesnt have artistry :-/ He just waddles about between his quads and triple axels - i watched him just then - nothing special to me - sorry! I just watched Patrick and he was spectactular to me even without his triple axel

А мне вообще нравится Брайан Бойтано. Посмотрите Олимпиаду 88-го года. Он прыгал красивее, чем Плющенко! А кораблик такой красивый, как у Бойтано, никогда Плющенко не повторит.

This definitely for me isn't one of his more artistic and interesting programs. But it had enough technical goods to win him the gold. I've seen him so pure and unique... I just wish he'd relive some of his earlier inspiration. I haven't seen anything as exciting as his earlier programs in a very long time.

i agree, he is good with his jumps but his artistry if you want to call it that is a bunch of arm movements everywhere with head shakes and no inbetween skating.

he is a great jumper.. he has no substance inbetween the jumps. he glides on his blades in way too much and stops aswell, he doesnt skate. sorry , plushenko just isnt' that good to me. patrick chan, stephan lambiel, and the new young czech kid are better in my opinion for skating
