The track looks bad.Bet some punks spray painted on it.I rode down this twice in the summer of 2000.I'd love to go back there in the fall and stay in North Conway,NH again.
@HattieLovesCattie Actually, what you are seeing is most likely belt dressing spray. I used to work the slide and we would treat it every day with belt dressing which acts as a friction agent to prevent people from going too fast and breaking their legs. We'd go down the track with rolled up wool blankets in front of the sleds to dry the track after a rain. If you think it's fast when dry, you should try it wet.
@peterlanoie I would love it that way,wet!!I honestly don't know when I'll be up in that area again?I want to ride a alpine coaster and the closest one to me is the one at Deep Creek in Md,near PA.The closest slide to me is the short one at Gatlinburg,TN.
Wow this place still has the old school track. Since it's not made anymore a lot of the operations are switching over to the new plastic track and can't go as fast as the old asbestos track. Enjoy it while you can!
idk, i thought it was all concrete. but while i was doing the slide in stowe, vt the bottom half of the track was new. i thought the all the material looked the same but it was slower cuz it didnt have any tire rubber on it and wasnt slick yet. im not really sure, but it seemed like that to me. when i go next time, i'll have to see if the bottom track is faster yet.
The old school track is actually made of asbestos. Looks and feels like concrete, But obviously illegal to use now. Also the old Alpine Slide company is long bankrupt. The benefit of the newer track is that it doesn't take off as much skin when you wipe out, but can't get the same speed as on the old asbestos goodness!

I HATE when that happens, 4 times i tried, 4 times i was stuck behind snail-like people. still fu though!
