I had the same problem with my garden in Florida...but with cucumbers! It was gross and I rarely got cucs. I think my last year, I tried an organic spray, BT, and it worked a little. I had pickle worms which ate into the cuc and devoured it from the inside out.
Cool. I remember doing that many years ago (in WI) and it worked, much to my surprise. Hope you are successful too. I only remember finding one though, not six! Holy cow.
@garygardens I had hopes but this is about day 4 and not looking good. I think they got to my other squash too on the other side of the lot but not sure yet. I hear they don't go West of the Rockies. But then we don't have slugs. Even trade.
Great info. I have been spraying neem on my squash bugs. Have not noticed vine borers. Thank goodness. Those things are ugly. Can't believe how many were in there. Gross!!
hey man im growin pumpkins and off of 4 vines i only see 2 female flowers(pumpkins) this morning one flower was brown unopend and the bulb/baby pumpkin under the flower was shriveld like a raisin?? why do u think this is hapening? and why only 2 female flowr are showing...will more pop out?? i want to pollinate and get fat pumpkins i learnd how to do that by your vids..thanks bro and any help would be great..ps the vines started out of a rotted halloween pumpkin..lol
@Mr420ways You'll get lots of male flowers at the start but then the female ones start popping out like crazy after about 6 feet of vine. Lots of the female ones fail but keep trying. The one I pollinated in my last Wisconsin update video I haven't seen for 2 weeks but I get to see it this weekend. Hopefully it took. It was a female that opened that morning.
@SleestaksRule thanks man that takes alot of frustration out of this patch..lol next season im pulling out the stops and growing all sorts of stuff, thank goodness i found yer channel!! u realy help alot!!! and informative!!
LOL...extra mint ! I try to keep the trunk of the plant sprayed with liquid sevin or Orthomax. It really helps. Hahaha..feed the ants. It also helps know friend from foe in the garden. Moths seem harmless, but they are wolves in sheeps clothing. Much like the moth/wasp vine borer, and the moths that are responsible for cabbage worms amd corn ear worms. Needless to say, I don't like moths.
@mhpgardener I think I'll try that for next year. I read that the liquid is better than the dust and should be applied at dusk when the bees aren't active. Bees bring the dust version back the the hive and poison other bees.
Not what I would call the most attractive after-dinner entertainment but I persevered and was rewarded by seeing the ants exact revenge for you. Good stuff. I'm glad we don't have those boyos here.
nasty little buggers, go ants go, i hope it lives, plant seeds in tissue rolls or paper cups when they get there true leaves then transplant tissue roll/ paper cup outside
Thanks for taking to time to video this. I had a thought while watching - if you make a hole large enough for the larvae to come out close to the ground and then a smaller hole above their last dump site and use an irrigation syringe to flush them out. If it worked, it could save a lot of damage to the base. If you washed the excriment and made a hole, do you think the ants would go in and get them?
@19Photographer76 They were pretty stubborn but flushing them that way may work. One was down the stem about at ground level and almost missed it. I read about people using needles to poke the stem and kill the that way but that seems like it would take a while with unknown results. Some people inject the vine with BTK Insecticide but I'd hate to eat anything from that. I left the area I cut open for an hour or so and the ants were all over it. Not sure if they got more.
What a great, discriptive video. It is so much better to see what the problems are than read about them. I hope the plant makes it after that much extra care. Nice work.
it's pronouced exCrement. not exTrement lol

OMg... is this vine still living??? good grief.. I hope I don't get any of those..really curious if yours made it..
MyDaddysgirl44 6 months ago
@MyDaddysgirl44 It died but I think it would have lived with better weather conditions, I still have my garden 300 miles North that is doing great.
