MAN THIS IS NEAT.....NEVER DID I KNOW THERE ANY FILM OF VON.ITS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT HES THE KING OF STRIPPING ,ONCE YOUR HEAR HIM TELL HIS STORY.HOW DID HE GET TO BE SO GOOD WITH ALL THE MISTAKES HE WAS MAKING....BUT ONE THING FOR SURE IS THE KING OF STRIPPING,THE KING,THE GURU,THE LEGEND
MrBobMilla...there was striping on alot of things prior to dutch, but they were lines that went from one end of the car to the other on top of body lines. There was never the pinstriping designs on the hood or deck lid like dutch did before him. Dutch did start it all, he invented modern pinstriping as we know it.
its so true as von dutch says, it has to become an obsession to learn how to stripe. Otherwise youll never do it. I never heard of anyone using motor oil in one shot...im trying that asap
Why do they say he was the man that started it all. When in the video Dutch says himself he got into it by watching others stripe.I've been doing it now full time 4 17 years and seen stripes from the 1800s that blow ur mind even 4 today's standards .don't get me wrong I have much respect 4 this man and legend but facts are facts.and as much as I hate to say it how do people know dutch didn't tell his family go ahead sell my name if u can make some money.for the record I thing its disgraceful pe
I am so glad to hear my fathers voice. i was surprised, upset, sad and happy. My father would be happy that we made a buck, but this is not important to me. I am just happy to see him and hear his voice. My sister is painting letters and signs in mayer arizona at "The Creek side Inn" and also painted an indian full body manican,

Am I the only one who thinks that Ken is not only laughing his ass off but is happy that his kids made a buck? Do you really think he could be bothered to give a shit about Hollywood posers wearing his logo? The faithful know who he was and what he did. Art doesn't die, it lives forever. Mr. Howard was an artist.
To bad that these two originators are gone.Where was all the hoopla when they were living? I had Roth air brush a T shirt t a car show when he was just about the only on doing it.Wore that shirt tll it fell apart..I was just a kid then, now 62
I truely miss them and there work and contributions to he art of rodding

Started out using a quill a laquer paint, that's xcllnt. such a shame the Von Dutch name has been tarnished by brandSettlers masquerading as the real thing.
@bogocero Lol. Capitalism gave you the internet, computers, you name it. Its also the only reason as you can start a business, succeed at said biz and live life high on the hog if you so choose. Ask the entire eastern block pre 90's and north korea how communism worked out. Doesnt seem too fun to me.
Gearhead "HISTORY" wish the quality was better ! But trust me thank-you for what we have...WizDforum these guys are still legans in gearhead world!!! R.I.P. ED-DUTCH
Ed Roth had a collection of VHS tapes you could by which went over diff things: fabricating, Pinstriping, working w/ fiberglass. tis is just one of them
"Beats washing dishes" Ya, it beats sitting in an office or just about any other kind of job I could think of. If it wasn't for striping and tatooing thousands of artists would be slinging hamburgers at Mac's or Jack's.
Do you have the rest of the video? I think I have the VHS tape I bought from Ed Roth a million years ago. It shows Dutch palleting the brush and talking a lot more. If I remember correctly, it's also shot at night and you can't see much. Thanks for posting this!!

Von Dutch has been known to pin stripe for a case of beer.
An article that I read in a custom paint magazine had an interview and photo's of Von Dutch working and living in an old school bus in a museum.

I have some non striped pink Von Dutch high tops. I think the shoe company took advantage of his name.
