  • To answer the question of a side impact, it's unbelievable.I totalled my first mg f at 80mph on the motorway hitting both sides AND spinning it about 6 times, all I had was a bump on my brow where the airbag went off (only coz my chair is all the way forward and I drive with a cushion - yes I'm tiny) and a cut on my leg where I caught it climbing over the barrier

Without a doubt any other car and I would def of been incredibly hurt if not dead. If replace the head gasket with one from the mg tf

  • Thats actually very good for a convertible.

  • jesus i have that car

  • Try a 1962 Cadilac, it wont even dent!!

  • That held up really well, considering how far back the design dates back to. I don't know how it would fair in a side impact, and I don't know how well protected the occupants are (ie sharp edges, hard unforgiving surfaces), but external impact absorption properties twinned with a passenger cell which seemed not to deteriorate would make this a fairly safe bet for a front end impact survival, of course depending on the severity, impact speed and what you hit.

  • lol, not bad, the dummy seems alright. :D

  • oh ok then....... i still think there good cars and its still my fravriot car (cant spell sorry)

  • Snif, Snif :(

  • This is actually an extremely good test result, but the side impact is even more remarkable. It scores near maximum, even without a curtain/head airbag.

  • how did you get this video?

  • we just got an mg tf 1.8 its a beautiful car

  • that's good

  • Old design, full of problems but still arguably the most beatiful convertible ever!

    MG for life!

  • Best thing for the MGF.

  • Its not an MGF you turd, its an MG TF

  • And another 13HP makes it good?

  • 13HP is 13HP more than anything with 13 HP less so it has to make it a little better if thats what your trying to say.

  • It also could be 160hp model. Great looking car.

  • No problems here.

  • O SO GAY!!!

  • Shame to see the best-looking car on the planet being smashed up, but also comforting to know I'll be relatively safe in mine if the worst ever happens. Yeah, I know the car has it's problems (like any car!)and it's now an old design but I'm SO happy I've got one - plus it doesn't look like it's been flattened by a big foot like the MX5 :)

  • what kind of problems does MG TF got?? im planing to buy one.. i really like it :D thanks alot

  • Head Gasket (if u dont check the water al the time and u dont service it a lot and if u thrash it from cold )other than that its good

  • My sis had no problems with hers for 2 years, it passed all its M.O.T's with flying colours. I think the head gaskets might have been the only issue with them. If its had a resonable S/H it should be ok. My sis's was F/S/H and low milage. I would check out how much a similar Mazda MX-5 is first before you buy one, just so you don't get ripped off, make sure its less than a Mazda MX-5 otherwise you will be ripped right off!

  • If there is an MX-5 170,000, NSH, MOT &Tax £1300 or an MGF, 80,000,Some S/H MOT&Tax £1300 <thats within reason,

    If its an MX-5, 60,000, F/S/H, MOT&Tax £4,995 or an MGF, 56,000, F/S/H, MOT&Tax £4995 <RIP OFF, BUY THE MX-5!

  • my sister had one of these. Much better looking than an MX-5, cheaper than an MX-5, stiffer than an MX-5 but then once any car is past its dealers warranty there are no full guarantees with anything! I know MX-5's were more reliable in general because the parts were more expensive but then there are always bad apples in barrels.

  • 2002 facelift increased ridgity by 20%

  • It's still the best in the class, 4 stars for passenger and a 3 star safety for pedestrians not bad for a 12 year old car!

  • Best in it's class at the time...

  • That absolutely scares the living snot out of me.

  • Why, it doesnt do that poorly.

  • I know you wouldn't want your pride and joy bashed, but that does remarkably well. What you're looking for is deformation of the A pillar and passenger compartment- of which this has very little. The mid-engine layout allows a big empty-ish crumple zone at the front, instead of a big solid engine block.

  • The more the front end crush's the more protected the driver and passenger.
