I understand both arguments in this however, the base umpire should have never yelled across the field and allowed everyone to hear what he had to say. It sounds like the head coach was going to get tossed regardless, I would have allowed him to talk to the plate umpire and then when he (plate official) came out to ask, then we would have had an ejection. Base umpire could have been a little more professional than what his actions showed.
as an umpire, once you raise your voice, you've lost control. A pitch had not been thrown, and IMV the coach had the right to call time to get clarification from the home base ump. It would of been diffrent if the pitcher threw a pitch and THEN the coach asked for time to reconsider the previous play. JMHO
@129HET No - you go the umpire that made the call. You do not like the call, and you go the other umpire trying to get him to toss his partner under the bus, you deserved to be ejected. The base umpire is correct here. You do not go around fishing trying to get something you want to hear. Coach had his say and we go to playing ball.
As an Umpire Myself, I would have let Him ask for clarification, But I would not scream at him in his face it does not solve anything....Not walk toward the manager Your Just egging yourself on turn around and walk away..Dont even get involved with an argument with the coach.
What guys forget what the game is about? If you mean the umpires... he was right to eject him.... Once an umpire tells you what he had on a play.. that is the end of it... If you go to another umpire to ask for help, you put yourself at risk for immediate ejection. I do think the base umpire was a bit too aggressive...he should have ejected him, and walked away to the outfield... I dont think the spit that might have got on him was intentional... they were too close to each other..
@chuckfan1 What you said is 100% correct. The only thing I would suggest is to not yell across the field, though the plate umpire should have never let him open his mouth about the play. This play was handled correctly as far as the ejection is concerned. As an umpire try not to make a scene where one is not needed (like walking across the field a yelling at a coach no matter how wrong he is).

Coach was dead wrong and deserved to be tossed. He needs to learn some self-control.

So does the umpire.

Um to the guy yelling put the game under protest, good luck with that one. An ejection of a coach is not something that's protestable
