  • I just prepared this biryani and it came out delicious!!! I didn't use the microwave 'cos I had to make a bigger batch. I layered everything on a pot and kept on the fire with a thin skillet below the pot and with a very low heat, cooked about 15-20mins... Simply love it! I have done Hyderabad biryani, south indian, various types ..I should say this is ONE of the best :) Thanks for sharing....

  • First time here. You seem to have an exhaustive collection of Indian recipes including videos. I was looking for a chilli paratha recipe while I chanced upon your site.

  • stop giving wrong recipes for people in your dummy English slang. people watching this think this is the actual recipe and follow it till they find out its wrong. if you want the actual method of mughlai dhum biryani, ask me. its a lot different from this jhatka biryani you posted.

  • what if i dnt have a micro ovn? anyways, i believe meat goes as first layer but never does rice. except for you. main ingredients are spices and yogurt. tomatoes are not good to taste in biryani. anyways nice mixture of chicken curry and rice. nice pulao.

  • Biryani in a micro wave?

  • so normally, in a pot you would layer it JUST like that and then slow cook it on the stove for around 5 mins, then mix and cook for about 5 mins more?

  • Yes ,normally when we cook on stove,we layer biryani in the same way but keave it on simmer (dum) on very slow fire for atleast 10 to 15 min.and its done.

  • mi sembra buono ma non ha messo troppo masala??

  • How many minutes do I have to put rice in the water beofre it's half cooked?

  • Soak rice for 10-16 mins & then put it in boiling water & cook until rice is half cooked(approx 8/10 mins)

  • Hi carpediem Just want to know how much water you should put to cook 2 cups of biryani rice

  • Hi xeia16,If you are cooking rice for biryani then there is no need to measure, still for 2 cups of rice approx.4/5 (same)cups of water is enough.

  • search on google, spice in the box.

    great for makin curries

  • hnmmmmmmmmmm yummy yummy

  • nice video..Thanks for sharing with us..keep your videos coming..

  • I really enjoyed watching this video. I'm preparing myself for when I do decide to make this dish. Thanks!

  • good i will try dis i really like different way of making biryani.i will try it on weekend INSHALLAH

then let u know how it goes ;-)

  • i made this dish today with your recipe and it was awesome! thank you so much!

  • This is a very unique way of cooking biryani... Because the original way is to not put any tomatoes... And my Paki boyfriend's mom cooks it all in the pot in layers... No need for microwave..

I think this way of cooking is ideal for people who are scared of burning their biryani in one big pot. Most likely for students who are away from their moms.. lol.

    Well done.

  • Great recipe! We tried it as the way you explained and it has come up realy tasty... lovely video... Thannksssss

  • funtastic i like ur recipe 10000000000000000000000000000000000 much

  • you are welcome to come over any time :)

  • Carpdiem

You mentioned that we can cook this in a pot, can you tell me how long it apporximately takes to cook it and do we cook it on low heat?

  • Dear livealife25,the procedure will be the same ,but the last part,i:e microwave part, you can do it in a pot as well,it should take 10 to 15 mins.depending on the quantity of rice.

  • Thank you very much, I prefer the stove to the microwave so I will do that. Your recipes are great!

  • gr8..thank u

  • Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons . com w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)

  • I like the recipe and the choice of ingredients. But disagree with the adding of yogurt. Chicken should to be marinated beforehand with the yogurt.

  • thanx ... love the microwave makes things sooooo much easier

  • yup it may not be the most gourmet, but microwaves are definitely an important kitchen tool and help a lot

  • I hate the microwave!!

it was all good but then,,,, microwave!!!!!

    I'd rather not :P

    thanks ^^

  • Thanks for quick and fantastic recipe I always cook with almost same process except the last step of putting it in mirco that was nice.

I was reading some comments above, don't mind stupid comments 95% of Desi people are sick and worthless etc so don't mind them

  • I find it nicer to use a disposable foil tray in the very end using the same layer process and heat it in the oven on 350 degrees.

  • You are right Tooba, thats another way of doing this, especially with larger quantities. Thanks for sharing,we all are learning from each other.

  • Thank you very much. Great instructions.

This is the first time I cook Biryani and it was a great success. I replaced the microwave part by stovetop. Can we also put it in the oven instead of the microwave?

  • Dear livealife25(nice name)Yes,if you are cooking in a big quantity, then oven is the best idea.stovetop, microwave or oven..every thing is fine, basically its keeping rice on "dum",thats all.

    All the best.

  • Dear carpediem43

    Thank you very much!

  • Looks delicious, but I don't like microwaves I always prefer fire. =S

  • too much work

  • very nice video, good explaination but you should try it without food colouring, use paprika instead. And marinate the meat for a few hours :)

Also, microwaves are very bad :(

  • Hiya iv lrnt so much frm u and the food has turnd out nice. can u help 2 cook tandoory chickhen. and chickhen curry with out the yorgert.tx u

  • very interesting. However,i'll prefer to cook in a pan.How long will it take then?

  • Hi vijnur,

Ofcourse u can do that in a pot aswell,U should keep the pan on simmer(Dum)for 10/15 mins on a very slow fire.

  • U can use any ready made geram masala like Shan or National.all are good.

  • ill marry you

  • Thanks for the recipe , but I noteced that you use food coloring and microwave , I'v read it's not healthy ......

I wish if you can teach us how to make dood ka halwa xD

  • Hi, At the end , I saw you covering the microwavable bowl. What did you use for covering? Is it a normal plate?

  • Hi SujaSEB,Its a microwave cover available in all store,If u dont have that cover, u can cover it with any plastic plate as well.

  • Very nice! Enjoy all your videos.

  • forgive my ignorance...but what was the liquid you poured from the bottle...is it like rose essence/water?

  • It was kewra, available from any indian/pakistani store,it gives a nice aroma to your dish.rose water is mild but this kewra is essence thats why much stronger.(should use only 2/3 drops.)

  • HI...i made it today and i must say ur recipe rock! it came out awesum....my husband and i luved it very much! thnx a lot for sharing...wud u plz let us know how to assemble without microwave also? thnx again!

  • Hi..thanks..if not using microwave,u can assemble your biryani in the same way but in a saucepan & keep it on very low flame(dum)for 15 to 20 mins.depending on the quantity.

  • excellent recipe!made it today it was delicious thank you!
