I have to say that they play this too fast. The melody doesn't swing at this speed. It just seems like a "play it as fast as you can" moment and not a musical decision.
@Sunderlanding Too fast. Even Joe Pass looked stressed -- you didn't see that very often! Amazing skill, but not great music. Clark Terry is remarkably clear at that speed though, that's impressive.
That was fun. It was nice of you to put up links to the individual solos. I don 't think I have seen that before and it makes me want to look into some of your other uploads.I didn't see a listing for the tenor player anywhere though it might have been there somewhere.. Who was that masked man ?Hey , thanks for taking the time to share . I wish I could laugh with you in person but this is also a nice way to realize other people enjoy independent lines and classic jazz jammin'.
@KikiikiKb Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen is the name. In daily speech just pronounched "NHØP". Sadly, he passed away too early some years ago. Not only a technical wizard on his instrument, he was a great composer as well, and doing lots of lovely interpretations of Danish children songs as well as Nordic evergreens, becoming a rare cultural Nordic heritage. I was lucky to attend more of his concerts, one which did the most impression of me, was at "Huset" in Aarhus, exactly 20 years ago.
Bunch of idiots! This is no music anymore but a rat race! Without any feeling, except the feeling to reach the end of the tune as fast as possible... hahaha, oh no, cry cry cry...
@Emapsych Yes...but this God is on 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4. Oh...so is Oscar. Are they getting back? Yes, at 3:35. Just in time for Bags to come in on the one. Sorry, I`m a drummer....
@Emapsych As is Clark Terry, Oscar Peterson and Niels Henning Oersted Pedersen, Ronnie Scott, Milt Jackson and Bobby Durham. :) Having listened to Joe Pass, Oscar and Niels - just the three of them, I can tell you I always got chills, listening to that trio. The additional players for this date just made it that much more sublime. Jazz doesn't get much better than that!
How can I even try to return to work after listening to that! Almost too much to possibly digest... getting together that many musicians who can put together as many notes as Oscar...

Donna Lee at 326bpm! Then gently speeds up to 332bpm. This video showcases the very definition of 'smokin'. Oh, and with superb camera angles.

Personnel (not verified): Clark Terry: flugelhorn, trumpet; Oscar Peterson: piano; Ronnie Scott: tenor saxophone; Niels Pedersen: bass; Joe Pass: guitar; Bobby Durham: drums; Milt Jackson: vibraphone.

Ronnie Scott is the tenorplayer here. He was an english tenorplayer and clubowner and sadly, he died in 1996.
