Are the additional virtualbox files necessay for just running Archbang in a virtualbox or for running everything in a virtualbox? Read archwiki on virtualbox and it isn't made clear. disregard, saw the question was already asked and you answered it
So Mr.Spatry, basically Archbang is Arch Linux, and if we have done all of this tutorial in this series, then it mean we have successfully convert Archbang into Arch Linux?
Seem to have another video bug, this time when you rotated the desktop cube. Regardless, another great video Spatry; can't wait to see the end result!
@Live4TheGame1 That is what I am doing... I have a launcher I created that has the FFMPEG command + arguments and a launcher to stop it.. notice the green and red dots on the top left of my screen???
@Live4TheGame1 If I want to log out of my session all I have to do is CLOSE the compiz-fusion icon. Otherwise I will issue reboot or halt into my terminal. I am trying to get in the habit of using the terminal for almost everything. This is all part of the Linux user experience. Complex commands will be issued with a launcher as a time-saver...
@LinuxSpatry Can you teach us on how to do that? I am afraid that after watching this tutorials, I will be converting into Arch Linux, I mean fully into the system and I don't know how to record the desktop..hahaha.. =p
Nice to see you on archbang. I personally would prefer a arch install over the step with archbang. But it's just a personal opinion. I learned a lot during this even if I had to start all over for I don't know maybe 3 or 4 times in order to have everything running.
@LinuxSpatry I'll going back to arch soon I think. At the moment I#m still running Windows 7. At this time I'm searching for a way of setting up the enhanced desktop zoom in compiz using KDE but I have to do that from the command line since its nearly impossible for me to read the text without magnification. As soon as I get around how to do that I'll wipe out my hard drive and going arch full time without looking back.
@LinuxSpatry Archbang does make easing into Arch Linux, a lot easier. I ran into a lot problems starting fresh from Arch Linux. My biggest stumbling block was getting networking to automatically connect to my wireless router. Tried both the netcfg and networkmanager and still had to end up manually set up my wifi via the command line. Now I'm waiting for Spatry to detail getting compiz up and running as a stand alone desktop environment. I followed wiki and get a blank screen, no mouse or menus.
protip: install pacman-color and add alias pm='pacman-color'' to your .bashrc. now you have pacman output with colors :P btw you can replace pm with anything you want
@nw0n Excellent tip! Note to my viewers... You will need to install pacman-color from the AUR and add the following line to your .bashrc file in the ROOT directory...
@LinuxSpatry "add the following line to your .bashrc file in the ROOT directory..." :P you don't need to add it to your root directory. just add sudo before pacman-color ... my bad...
@LinuxSpatry ..Didn't understand how to install from the AUR. I was able to open the .bashrc file though. Maybe this could be part of a future tutorial?
@LinuxSpatry ..Thanks, Spatry. I guess that my asking (to include "installations from the AUR" in the tutorials) would be a perfect example of why other Arch users might say, "RTFM", eh? lol.
@brobriobri I got you covered... I will show you how to use the AUR in an upcoming tutorial, but if you are in a rush then I respectfully encourage you to RTFM! (sorry... I could not resist!)

Is adding guest additions required only on virtual box?
davorsite 1 month ago
@davorsite YES... Do not install the additions on your HOST system. This is only necessary for your VIRTUAL install of Arch or ArchBANG.
LinuxSpatry 1 month ago
@davorsite yes... you only need to install additions in your GUEST system, NOT on the HOST.

@LinuxSpatry Ah, clever. I wondered what those were for, I figured they were power off/restart buttons, or something of that nature. Nice set-up!

@Shinedown51287 I have installed Arch several times and ran into some difficulties POST-install. Using ArchBANG as a base has helped me tremendously.

Seems to be a perfect cobination then! Its cool to read through the commands here and discover pretty cool tips such as the pacman-colors.
