  • Yes, the wife is pretty hot! I like the idea of 100% LED lighting. I'm at 36 watts of LED lights for lighting 3 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and living room.

  • she is a sexy beast

  • why wont u americans build a solid brick house for once and be done with it forever.. i live in a house that has been build almost a century ago and it is in GREAT shape.

  • @DarkoMFS Agreed, money is one reason. Our shop where we work was built in the 50's by an amazing brick layer and it is SOLID. We get hurricanes here so we evacuate there if a storm comes near. This house when it was in foreclosure before we purchased got water damage from one storm.

  • Are you living in florida guys?you have a great channel and I love it.I'm in sw florida and I have couple green things at my house. Now I'm working on the solar AC and dehumidifier, that's what we need in florida! Dehumidify the air with least cost.Try to think and post some solar AC project, you are great people.Maybe we can share some thoughts,I'v been through dessicants, hilsh vortex tubes, geo loops and ground cooling, nocturnal cooling and more.Thank you what you show and do for people.

  • Jeff Rice

How about A Class Action Lawsuit against them who are spraying our sky's ? I mean, If I buy solar panels for electricity and they spray like they do, this blocking the sun is costing me and everyone who owns solar panels.

  • What did you do as to why there was mold that came about after remodeling the first time? How did you detect it were there wet/mold spots or did you do an unseen test?

I have been working on a glorified shed/greenhouse the past year and I was stuffing the roof with newspaper for a bit till I realized what I was doing and changed over to USPS Tyvek envelopes : ). I have a feeling I am going to regret the newspaper in the roof soon..Thanks for the inspiration and KEEP IT UP! We share your drive!

  • OH man... your house worries me a little... but, I guess you're in the south and structural loading isn't a huge issue... so glad you have your mold issue zapped. Sick houses not good... no plenums? You're sharp, healthy and ambitious... I really do enjoy your videos. Shame on the person who reported you to the Code Officials, being that you ARE improving the structure one bit at a time... be well. Fred

  • @HTCSWEOD :-) one neighbor got coded and reported everyone. I thought it was from the video so I zapped it. The structure is stronger now as I reinforced a lot with braced inside the studs. I am not a huge fan of mobile homes but this was right next door to my Mom and we needed to be close after my Dad passed away in 2006:-( We are like one big piece of property more or less.

  • Have you guys heard of a Edison Battery? Old school battery that last forever, it's easy to make, and get's better over time. I just heard about it and wonder if anyone knows anything.

  • In Los Angelus county California DA thugs with the building inspector will bull doze down your home IF you are not on the grid. Talk about ANTI_TRUST... LA county California is totally fascist and in bed with California Edison Electric company!!

  • Really love your stuff..... You have some things on the construction end that concern me... builderguy1@gmail.com

  • Dan, don't use bleach it's actually worse for your health then the mold (as it off gasses) there are products that are less toxic you can use to control mold. If you have to replace drywall because of mold there is mold resistant drywall available. A little more expensive but worth the money. Also there is mold resistant polyurethane spray foam, better then fiberglass or organic insulations. There is also a process to remove mold from structure (wood) using dry ice (ice blasting).

  • how much did you pay for the house?

  • The mold came from a leak or the roof could not breath. You need a small space between the roof and the insulation. Just a thought. Thanks for all your helpful videos

  • Hang in there, guys. You're doing something quite interesting by staying off the grid all the while performing major house-rehabilitation. Impressive! :)

  • @mbaharvard Thank you :-)

  • wow! you fixed that house up amazingly! also, i never thought you could light your house with smaller wattage's! thats defiantly the way im going

  • @Offthegridprepper We are in and out now because of suspicious insulation. I have pulled all out and the electrical is stripped and ready to run a common to reattach to the solar.

  • Again, an awesome video as always.... Hmm, an off-grid mobile home in Florida. Heck if u can do it there, I should be able to do it in Northern Indiana! Although I'm looking at much smaller scale then you...

Agreed with others comments. You have quite the attractive wife there... You two definitely look like you were made for each other....

As always, I do enjoy your videos.... Please keep them coming, I'm learning a lot!

    Many thanks...

  • You forgot the underlayment underneath the metal roofing panels.

  • I really enjoy watching your videos, I learn a little bit more with every one! You guys are awesome!

  • thank you so much for inviting us in and sharing your project. very educational

  • How many watts of solar panels, how many batteries, and do you have anything producing power besides solar?

  • you are very fortunate, as a couple is great to see that both are on the same channel, congratulations, you are an example of how to be and live with some one else.

  • Thanks for you guys effort in this... Great stuff keep going... many thumbs up on your videos...

  • If you find more mold I recommend 60/40 bleach to water. Multiple coats in a days time it should kill any mold source.

  • @attpureownpk We used a stronger bleach this time around. We think the insulation either contains mold spores or something else? Having the worst case scenario tested first.

  • Thank you for sharing your time and making this video for us. I had the fire ant thing also. Worse than termites. The ants eat humans too. But I now have a steel roof and new sheeting on the roof. No more leaks, me be a happy man.

  • 1:16 & 1:31 !!!! She's a robot!!

  • @rosskstar built in 7th grade for a science fair. :-)

  • You are seriously brilliant. Genius.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri - you are an awesome skin flute player !

  • @antidoteco lolol hey at 1:16 he skips but she doesn't!!! really weird!! maybe she's a virtual womern eh?

  • Thank you for sharing. It looks as though you two are able to live quite comfortably and cheaply this way. I imagine the payments on a mobile and some land are fairly resonable, especially off grid. I know it is asking a lot but a video showing how one can live on minimal funding would be interesting. As nosey as it sounds I find myself very curious what your monthly output is...I bet I'm not the only one. Thanks Again!

  • both of you are great.

  • It is possible to make fuels for cooking, such as methane, from atmospheric CO2 and water. Although growing fire wood may be easier.

  • Hi Dan, where do you buy you're "State of the art LED bulbs" and are they 12V?

  • Hot Hot Hot....Denise...!!!

  • Please do a video on the Jean Pain method in order to get hot water and showers in the winter.

    That would be awesome!

  • Don't get me wrong. I would love for you to be one of the few who shows people how, for minimal if any investment, can completely remove themselves from the need to even have an electical company. The government hates competition you know. Keep up the awesome videos!

  • argh! fire ants...one thing i dont miss abolut the south

  • DAN about your roof. it is important to have air space between the plywood and metal simply because the sun is going to cook the wood that is in contact with steel.By making an overlap grid with one by ,the wood will last a whole longer.

    CHEERS

  • great vid as always!!

  • Hi, love all your vids. But now that i've put together a basic solar setup (just enough power for 2 compters), I noticed that you havent yet explained whether you can mix old and new batteries. Or i dont remember. Do you use batteries? If I add to my system later, can i increase my battery bank with any other batteries i can get, new or old, or do i have to create a new system?

    Any advice appreciated

  • your wife is hot, had to be said!

  • Wow 20 watts for the whole house! What kind of led lights do you have? Thanks:)

  • @galaxiedance thats what i was thinking too

  • You did great work there!

  • I feel the same as many others it seems. Seeing such an intelligent and capable couple is inspiring.

  • I love you guys! Great WOrk!

  • Amazing work as always. You are a very lucky couple to have each other.

  • love the way you get people thinking. That is a cool power you have there.

  • Hi folks!

I love your videos and have been watching them for a while. The other day I found about a person that it's documenting an open source project on how to build basic machines to be self reliant and independent. It's a work just like yours, so I thought appropriate to let you know about his work. I am going to tell him about your videos as well. I think the work of you two, combined, here on the internet will be extraordinary. It is called: "marcinose" here on YouTube. Thanks

  • There doesn't seem to be much pitch on that roof. I hope you put some ventilation in that roof when you replaced it. Mold doesn't like dry, well ventilated areas.

  • Hey guys, love your vids. Are you out of debt??

  • Great job !!! Yall make a great team...God bless...

  • WHO is this chick? I wouldn't mind seeing a video of just her.

  • Can't wait to see you do it. We have all seen the "high end" projects on tv and wish we had such a budget. I know that yours will be one I can actually do on my own without a bank loan. Thanks for the great videos.

  • you two are great, like to watch your videos

  • Always love your vids. You got tons of great info to share. You're kinda a Mr. Wizard of sorts, w/all your experiments. LOL. Look forward to the updates as always. And Dan, I mean this in the sincerest way. Your wife is a beautiful lady. Hope that's not outta line. You guys take care and keep the vids coming.-Nate

  • @N8Dogg1002 Thank you for the nice comments and not out of line, Thank you again. You made Denise's day.

  • LOL

  • awesome..you guys rock...is the water going to be off grid as well?

  • My Dad had a metal roof like that and he had problems with a wood pecker banging on it. It's something of a mating call to them and when he could bang so loudly on something it really attracted the chicks.

  • good old corrugated iron sheets, what most of Australia uses. Great for water collecting.

  • Hey Dan I know your video is old but for the fire ants, I would consider using dry gits poured around or near the mound. The ants take the dry gits into the mound and once eaten the ants burst from the dry gits expanding inside them. Now I know some people will say thats not nice. I say to them, fire ants are some nasty little shits.

  • @johnnnyreb51 Fire ants are mean. I have a few mounds under some scrap metal. They are my security guards as it has gotten stolen in the past.

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE They work great. Get a hand covered in fire ants and it a trip to the ER for most people. lol

  • @johnnnyreb51 What are gits?

  • @imau2ber It's a southern dish made from boiling dry Monee corn that has been cracked. Or and Italian dish called polenta.

  • @johnnnyreb51 You mean G-R-I-T-S!

  • Try to do something for yourself and the government has to step in to see if there is any way they can profit. That wasn't a code enforcement guy, he was there to see why you were going off the grid, he secretly worked for the DHS.

  • @TronixGuy93 He did ask why the meter has not been hooked up yet but the solar was not in yet. We ran a long extension cord to a neighbors house for construction.

  • nice change from shingles to panels

  • By the way I have read about fire ants; fortunately in Minn we don't have fire ants. Thank goodness for that!

  • I worked with my dad doing remodeling, shingling, and many other related jobs back in my college years. I will be really enjoying this subject. It's enjoyable to see somebody so willing and able to handle the tasks at hand and create a nice home. To be off the grid is a real achievement, especially during this age of naysayers who keep saying solar power isn't going anywhere because it's too expensive, or othe reasons. LOVE this stuff!

  • @bodryn Thank you for the nice comment. The off grid is doable. It requires some sacrifices of big appliances but you can easily do it. I have the black hose for the water in the back. The house is 90% shade. Part 2 is on the way.

  • Your roof is too flat for regular asphalt shingles. You should go w/ rubber roof IMO.

    Good Luck!

  • show us your solar system

  • Is mold a problem in Florida?

  • @norxcontacts YES! There is very high humidity, if you get a leak, you get mold. You need a bleach based spray inside the walls and all insulation must go. I have bad allergies and the combination of the carpet and the mold made me ill.

  • `cool video, you got alot of projects goin on

  • @rldunavant We were overloaded in 2009. We slept in the house with a single light bulb at first. I chose not to have the meter hooked up as an inspiring factor for the grid free. We do cheat a bit and do a lot of cooking at work on cloudy days.

  • you had problems with the roof?... I can see what was wrong with it.. you put a spade through it.

  • @zebidinofus It was a disaster.
