check the other video of this song ( live at abbey road) he plays a mostly different solo there. any solo he plays live is unique, he's the godfather of improvisation.
David Gilmour learnt guitar by playing Elvis songs on the guitar he uses here and i think it shows, he does a brilliant version of this song at Abbey road too. He's a legend, i met him 2 years ago at the premiere of remember that night, the nicest guy you'll meet.
Funny, pickups and amplification and coils came from the developement of microphones and small recievers, then from radar and sin and cosine wave forms in electronics developed in ww2.
yeah it's Gilmour singing Elvis, Vocals good, this guys got great pitch all around, the lead would have made the King Proud. Listen closely to the arrangement though. Not the slightest hint of Floyd yet Gilmour excels in this old school environment. Try that you EMO rockers.
David will always be the man when feel is needed for a solo, no matter what song.
Feel and emotion mean way more to me than fast Hammerons and repeditive riffs over and over again. It you can not express youreself with harmony and melody, don't bother.
this is from the scotty moore and friends - a tribute to elvis. Gilmour said scotty moore was the reason he started playing after hearing elvis presleys heartbreak hotel, what an outstanding job he did on this song

What a waste of five minutes on stage when Gilmour could have been singing the hundreds of much better songs he has written. Truly bland. The solo saves it, but would much rather have had a Gilmour original!
Take the woman's advice, David: DON'T waste your gifts on this dull old ballad!
This guitar is his famous 1955 Fender Esquire. Seymour Duncan had this guitar before him, and it was he who added second(neck) pickup. I would also mention amp (it sounds to me like some vintage tube Fender), which is also responsible for this great guitar sound. I am not 100% sure about this but I think it is that tweed amp that you can see behing Gilmour in some scenes.
Song is great, I like both original and this cover version
Then he as taken a Tele, and an esquire neck on and off after adding the tele pick guard and different pickups thru the years. I have a pic in front of me with Esquire on it. Who cares, i am sure he has hundreds of necks, and pickups laying around. Ever heard of moding.
Song is From a the tribute cooncert to Lieber and Stoller concert for Elvis Presely. On his David Gilmour In Concert DVD. Bonus clip on some editions.
I thought it was a joke or a mistake when I saw the title listed-- then I started crying from the very first Don't-- how beautiful! What show is this from?

that is one of David's favorite guitars. 1955 Esquire that he bought from Seymour Duncan in the mid 70's. he used it on "the wall" tour as well.

Amazed you realized it was an Esquire, pre-tele.
Fender put them put for like 5 years in the late 50's. Now they make Squire, which is crap.
