I don't get the latin thing... was it a show off? Other then this the arrangement is OK... The bass solo would have sounded better with a fretless bass though...
What an aweful arrengement. I did not like it not at all. He could he do that ?!! This is not the song, the song that makes my heart beats harder and long for the past good tiems in my life. Gabriela
I have to agree that this arrangement is bizzare. I am a huge Gino fan and have seen him live twice in the last four years. I have to say however, that this arrangement just doesn't work for me.
you just dont take away from perfection..all these hay wire arrangements make me sick ..its like he was serious while his brother keyboard player was in the band ,,then after the split up he just plays with the idea that his songs sound like they did in the past..these arrangements take away from the meaning and feeling of the song and other songs ive heard him rearrange..gino i got to hand it to you..you would make a great Butcher
@meatpole55 What happened to your language? Go to your room. Yeah, the original is better, he went pauper in paradis on this one, if you know what I mean.
@calferath ........im so glad to see some one feels like i do ..you just dont take away from perfection..all these hay wire arrangements make me sick ..its like he was serious while his brother keyboard player was in the band ,,then after the split up he just plays with the idea that his songs sound like they did in the past..these arrangements take away from the meaning and feeling of the song and other songs ive heard him rearrange..gino i got to hand it to you..you would make a great Butcher
I have always loved Gino since i was a kid. And here 30 years later he still sounds just as awesone as he did then. This is a fantastic version of this classic song of his. Thank you for posting it. This brings back off brautiful memories of that time period.
Gino baby, you still look good man! I will always love you. I saw you perform when I was 10, must have been 1976, and man, your voice is just as beautiful with age as than. Love you, love you, love you.
wow, I don't know whether to laugh or cry...Part of me wants to love the song, and I do...but the many song changes make it sort of a joke. That pretentious jazz sax. Awful. Just bad. But Gino is so great. And it is a classic song from an old school guido. And finally, I'm from Philadelphia originally. So I have a deep appreciation for diegos.
Gino is a superb artist, and as he has matured, so has his music. He's been my #1 artist for over 30 years. You can't help but love him, his passion, his music. He's just so talented, I hope he continues to be a part of our musical world forever.
(PT 2.)What sensitivity, artistry, what musical genius is this? None other than the master himself, Gino Vannelli. THIS is music worth listening to, a voice to be adored, a true legend. Let us count our blessings!
(PT 1.)Incredibly beautiful performance! This arrangemt elaborates on the melodic & harmonic core of a poignant song & takes us on a sonic ‘collage’! How fortunate we are to live at this time to witness the amazing life & talent of Gino Vannelli, this rare composer, vocalist, arranger, philosopher, & artist. Gino takes his grand musical inspiration & transforms it into beautiful, artistic sonic reality for us through his vocal mastery with such excellent interpretive flair & technical expertise.
I have Yonder Tree, which is awesome. Did he record any jazz albums like that since then? Also, does anyone know if it is possib;e to buy a live Gino DVD?
This is wonderful; I love the more modern Gino with GOOD digital audio; and that voice is just as incredible as ever. I hope Gino is making music for a long time to come.
I loved this song. But you have ruined it's earthy appeal, by trying to satisfy the appetite of jazz fans. It was a rock ballad that had the ability to cross genres. You took a song with universal appeal and sold it's soul. Go back and watch the video you made. It was moving. Please, my friend.
Undoubtedly one of the best captured arrangements of this fantastic song. For those of us who miss the big sound of the synth bass, rest assure that this arrangement truly show cases Gino's brilliant writing and technique. Lets remember how fortunate we all are to have the opportunity to hear his brilliance as he continues to share his God given gifts amist enormous record industry controversy and turmoil. Thanks a million Gino for still caring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All you folks that have criticised this version are forgetting an important point. You have the sublime original version for ever, but everyone grows musically, not least Gino himself. If the orchestra had played a 'standard' version they might have missed out on the new perspectives that this chart offers. Quite obviously Gino has moved more towards jazz since 1980, so perhaps its only natural that there would be some jazz influences here that reflect his approach. This is a neat alternative
Even though I have watched this clip dozens of times, I still get chills and am so moved. It's truly one of the most beautiful vocal performances I have ever heard.
I was captivated by his voice, as always, then, what the heck happened? That horrible intrusion of jazz music! It ruined the song . His voice is heavenly and that's what I wanted to hear; not all that craziness. Sorry if I'm alone here, but Gino, I love your voice just by itself!
I must admit when I first read your comment I thought, "he's just being picky" but I as I heard it I get where you are coming from. The song is a soft ballad and should have been left as such. I am still into the original
EXACTLY!! What the HELL did he do to this, my favorite song of his??? I realize he wrote it, but I think he should have left it the way fans remember [and want it] to remain! But he sure does still have the pipes, no?
I agree with you 'salluvsya". The beginning with the piano was impressive. I never tough this great song could get any better, but the crazy-instrument-mix ruin it.
Very amazing indeed, this arrangement takes you on a new adventure yet still holding close the sentimental essence of the original. Well done Gino and cast!
No way is this 'overdone'! Wonderful, multi dimensional and the arrangement's full of drama and colour and I love the samba groove quotes from 'Where am I going'.
The original was very large+dramatic, and that was cool. This version sounds good, but it's a bit 'overdone'! The best part about Gino's music was the synth-fusion-soul element. I'll pass...but still love the song!
I absolutely LOVE this live version. I've been looking everywhere for this. And I was so disappointed when they removed it from YouTube. Thanks, once again for re-posting.
