I've seen reviewers who hated the whimsical way this is done. They liked a more "straight forward" Candide, but I LOVE this! It rings to me as "you're talented, I'm talented... let's have fun!"

I haven't come across any comments about Paul Groves as Candide. I have a sneaking suspicion purists weren't pleased, but I sure was. He sang "It Must Be So" and "Candide's Lament" quite beautifully, rising above all the satire.
