It's the same thing to ask: "Why do you wear these shoes?", "What's with this haircut?" etc. etc. Yet I do have the same opinion as yours when it comes to tattooing someone's name on you. It's just dull. You love someone today and you decide to tattoo his/her. But the next day you realize that this person ain't so special that you have to wear his/her name on you (for example) buttock. :D

To compare Kelly and Crystal would be mistake IMHO. They sing in 2 different genre(s). While Kelly can belt it and fits into the Pop paradigm, Crystal is more folk/rock which fills the Janis / Melissa Ethridge paradigm. So all in all the only thing they have in common is using AI as their platform to get their foot in the door in the music industry.

We all know that Kelly's voice is stronger than this girl's. BUT, Crystal did in her own way for sure.
