I remember when this came out and I was already an RPG fan and a fan of Square's previous games. And based on this commercial, I thought that all the graphics were FMV-quality, and that it wasn't an RPG, but a guy riding around on a motor-cycle. I still got it and, damn I love it.

i would say 10 was the beginning of the downturn, purely because of a few simple reasons, staff members were dropping like flies, the amalgamation with "enix", the voice acting dialogue kills more of the imaginative playing, and the obsession with better graphics and extended cutscenes ruins the game. when your heart is into making a story then your quids in, when your heart is aimed at visuals and cutscenes then you've failed miserably at making a good RPG.
Every game beyond FFVII has failed to top it. In 20 years when everyone on this message board is old, Final Fantasy 30 something will come out and it will still fall on its face when compared to 7
It's believable, though. Final Fantasy VII is one of the titles that sold the system. It came out when I was about 10 or 11, and this was the most revolutionary game of its time. I also have the respect for it because it was my first PSX title, and I was able to get it the day that it came out. It's a black label, still in near-mint condition and is worth a lot of money.

I was 13 when i saw this commercial and it gave me goosbumbs all over my body, then i finally got the game and i played 14 hours straight of it everyday on my first playstation. which ended up overheating and me buying the new playstation that doesn't over heat. i spent i think over 130 hours playing this game when i was around 13 i'm now 25 and i debate playing it again. :)

Most epic line ever, I agree "and if he fails... you can allways hit the reset button." You know what really sucks ass? there was NEVER any PS1 commercials in sweden. i'm serious. not with the previous consols to. sweden... so neutral... so fragile... so penis shaped...

Yes I remember when I saw the commercial for this game when I was around 7-8 years old and I was anxious to try this Final Fantasy game and once I got the chance to play it at my cousins house I was extremely dissapointed thinking that it was going to be an action game like a platformer and turned out to be an RPG where I did not know how to do anything or even had the slightest clue about what was going on. very misleading commercial

me too....i didn't get the game when it first came out, i rented it first at blockbuster a month before final fantasy viii came out and bought it when it was on the greatest hits. I almost beat this game but I died trying to beat Sephiroth on disc 3...still a great and challenging game.

I remenber this game whan I was in k-mart when i was little. It was 14.99 so i could buy it. Now im piss off :( no ff7 for me. I never play it so i wish sony or microsoft put it in the marketplace, because i dont trust amazon or ebay!

wow i remember seeing this... and thinking 'i... must... have...' but with little money and from a family of 'if you want it buy it with money you make' i didn't end up buying a consloe till about 2000 and i was gonna get the N64... but then i remember being at the store, and seeing FFVII Greatest Hits sitting there next to the PSX... and the choice was suddenly changed... and i never regretted my PSX choice or the many hours I spent on FFVII
