  • Yes rare steaks are healthy. In fact eating raw is not bad for you. Just make sure to not do that with pork.

  • Great Video Caitlin. BTW do you have any tips for a new and hot item in my restaurant?

  • get a real pan ...

  • i love your smile.. you showing happiness of cooking :)

  • is it healthy if you steak are rare?

  • She's pretty :O

  • Um, you said you were going to show use how to grill a steak, then you fried it....

  • hel yeh i love deep fried steak!!! woo!!!..not...too much oil....

  • you sound like your 13 years old lol :D

  • If you have a pan that small please sear em 1 at a time. Dont force those 2 steaks im there! Itll create steam which you really would not want. And oil the steaks not the pan.

  • Awesome thanks!

  • Get a bigger pan!

  • thank you!!! im gonna save this vid for when i want to make a badass steak :)

  • in addition to what krait99 said, searing a steak doesn't "seal in the juices", it creates a crust via the Molliard effect, which enhances flavor. Also, you should use cast iron, and finish off the steaks in the oven. Plus, if your steaks are too close to each other, they wont create as good of a crust.

  • SALT DRYS STEAK!!!!!!!

  • @GreatPartyCathy which is good...cause less water in the steak means more flavor..duhhhh......thats why expensive steak restaurants age steaks to get moisture out

  • it would be really hard for a skeleton to distinguish between different doneness-es of the steak using this method

  • and if you put your finger right here, you will feel medium rare haha.

  • You lost me at 'pan'. Wheres the charcoal?

  • I luv u Caitlin. Will u marry me?

  • isnt 7 min too long?

  • hmm how come the steak dont fold upwards like wat happened to mine ?

mine folds up instead of lying there flat, n its difficult to cook the other side after i flip it over.

  • 1. if u cook 2 the steak in pan don't make them touch, it makes them boil.

    2. put the oil on the meat, not in the pan

  • One suggestion and one thing you missed.

If you have to fry a steak (vs grill or broil), use grapeseed oil or something with a much higher smoke temp so you can get more heat onto the steak right away.

You also forgot to tell people to let the steak rest for 10 mins or so and to remove it before it gets to the level of doneness you want. All meat continues to cook when pulled off the heat so your rare steaks will end up medium by the time you serve.

  • You have direct access to a grill that has fire? Then use that. I only cook a steak in a pan if there is no grill or barbq. I love the smell of a steak on a grill in the cold weather its one of my most favorite smells.

  • What if i have chubby hands and chubby fingers and they all feel like medium rare?

  • @MrBigjuarez hahaha

  • i was waiting for you to reveal how it looked like inside! :(

  • your pan is way over crowded

  • I like mine done for a few seconds on eachside. Yumm

  • I thought you were going to grill em on a BBQ.

  • Husband ?! I don't mean to offend but I thought you were 13-15 years of age ...

  • @boardiee if you say that to someone, how can you expect them to not be offended?

  • you should've used a bigger pan, those steaks need room to breath.

  • That finger on the palm tip was awesome.. I'm eating a delicious medium rare steak as we speak.

  • @jk47hm4 I am so happy that this tip was able to help!!

  • 5 mins on each side..on that heat..

That's not even a steak anymore, it's merely a piece of overcooked meat.

    Waste.

  • 5 minutes per side????? I only do 2 minutes per side on high heat. I like steak raaarrreeeee

  • I bet your ass is as juicy as that steak

  • actually i liked her voice more than the steak :P

  • Nice video. But you shouldn't leat a steak unturned for any more than 40 seconds because the heat won't evenly penetrate the meat and you'll over cook it. Also you have to bring the steaks to room temp before you cook it otherwise the steak will be overcook buy the time it's hot. Caramelizing the meat or sealing it won't do shit for 'trapping' the juices. And you shouldn't crowd the pan like that. Also you gotta rest a steak for about half the time you cooked it for. Nice video though

  • i tried this and it tasted like shit

  • if i got that at a restaurant I would send it back. sorry Caitlin =(

  • I admire your gumption in putting this video together. However easy cooking can be for some it represents impossibility for other.

Trimming the steak and letting it sit for 5 minutes are definite tips that I think could even be edited into this video. Accepting some "oopsies" in your productions will garner appeal in the ways that other TV chefs/cooks have.

Again, your doing this gives me an added push to do so myself. Best of luck Cait

  • too much oil.

  • I'm eating my steak right now and its good , but I didn't put enough pepper.

  • The only way to cook a perfect steak is over a charcoal grill pit boy style bbq, I feel like bashing peoples skulls in who claim they cook the perfect steak over a stovetop frying pan unbelievab le.

  • im want steake

  • for me i would go for a bigger pan! and myself i like sunflower oil for higher smokepoint!

great meat you have used! im hungry..-)

  • for me i would go for a bigger pan!

  • Good video...you do a great job!

  • Gorgeous looking steaks and very good instructions but either get a larger pan or cook the steaks one at a time. The more surface exposed to the pan, the better the sear. Can't have that steak curling because of space. Great video!

  • herbs, not erbs you pig

  • bravo! i've been making steaks like this for years now. my only tip is to use peanut oil (higher smoke point) as so many others have pointed out.

  • can start off with high temp oil then finish off by adding butter towards the end for extra flavour..... can also chuck a clove or 2 of garlic with rosemary...... if the steak is quite thick 30mm+ & you don't wanna put into the oven, can always add abit of stock & reduce the temp a bit for it to cook through.....

  • aaaw cmon, I wanted to see you cut it open!

  • You could have just left that steak on the plate and I would have eaten it...

  • olive oil has a lower smoking point so its not good for cooking steak in, also the pan should be hot before adding the oil and lasting the pan should be smoking hot with a loud sizzle when steak is added, thus using a higher smoking point oil

  • YUUP, you speak the truth, I use grapeseed oil myself

  • Aaah, the glory of YouTube --the opportunity to share. Thank you for leaving your tips and tricks too. Enjoy that yummy steak! :)

  • No problem, you don't really have to use an oil with a higher smoking point it's just my personal preference, in fact in england they usually use butter which burns at a pretty low temp, they just cook it longer at a lower temp for longer it's really all about what you prefer, nothing wrong with using olive oil or butter or anything really, its all about preference. Keep on cookin and keep the vids comin! (clicks subscribe) :)

  • forgot the most important part

  • Thanks for your feedback, MikeZX2. What did we forget? Tell, tell.

  • eating it !!

  • @cookingwithcaitlin1 You didnt tenderise it.

  • @cookingwithcaitlin1 im pretty sure he means you forgot to mention to let the meat rest to allow the juice to absorb throughout the steak

  • Dont cook 2 steaks at once..lol

  • awesomeee

  • why dont you say what the stove temp should be set at?^^

  • @regionalmathematics Stoves don't have temperature settings.

  • yummy

  • god, they idea of "sealing juices" by frying is totally outdated and terribly wrong. Or to put it in Heston Blumenthal's words: if it were true, it'd be impossible to dry-fry a steak since it is sealed already. Come to think of it. The only reason to fry a steak is to cause a Maillard reaction for the typical steak taste, otherwise it is always better to cook it sous-vide and only slightly brown it afterwards.

  • Thanks for your feedback. There are so many great ways to make delicious food, and we love getting to know your favorite tips. Even more than cooking a great steak, what's most important to us at Cooking with Caitlin, is getting the world talking about food. Surely your technique will inspire many aspiring chefs to make a yummy steak in their own kitchens. Thanks!

  • love the tenderness checking idea thanks for the tip
