  • saw this. clicked on it. first reaction:

YOU DID THIS IN TWO LAYERS?!!?!?!?!

then i saw the part 6..

  • epic! is there like lava in it's scales? i'm just wondering what the arange stuff is in between it's scales....

  • I seriously don't get how somebody this good can have haters.

Its kind of making me angry considering how much effort goes into making these awesome

    paintings.

you get inspired just by watching.

CS is awesome, Wacom is awesome, AND YOU ARE AWESOME!!

    Thanx for sharing with us.

PS: Im gettn CS5 this week! YAAAY!!

  • Amazing :)

  • Thank you very much for sharing with us this series of videos. They are very instructional and inspiring.

  • cool ,we want more :D

  • nooo leave that eye alone... it won´t gonna be better... o wait... it look even better now jajajajajaa

  • I hate your guts :P...obviously cos your amazing and I cant draw to save my life good work mate

  • Thanks a lot for these videos, I can't believe how many idiots comment on them. "How do you leik maek the colour leik see thru and stuff?" Drives me insane, a quick google should suffice for all extremely basic questions guys.

  • Amazing :) Thanks a lot for posting :)

  • damn... the imagination and skill needed is crazy, I wish I could make something like that, looking at this sometimes makes me want to stop drawing, cause everything I draw is just complete rubbish when you look at this, I hope I can do this one day too ^^

  • Hm only using two layers? I guess it's better, since I just mess it all up using too many layers lol.

  • @Septhin I think using less layers is a result of this being a more traditional style of painting using a digital medium. It's what I do as well, I find it looks more like a painting and less like a digital composition doing it this way.

  • thank you for showing us whole layout. so we can see witch tool are u using , and how are layers arranged. great series. thanks chris

  • You rule man!...Subscribed!

  • Can you please do a realtime vid of photorealism portrait painting please please

  • I see you have the colour palatte up, how did you do that? I cannot make it show on my Photoshop CS3

  • How can you do this in just 1 hour? That's amazing!! I love your art!

  • I have a wacom intuose 4 but I don't have a profeshional painting software, which is why I want to know how much photoshop cs4 cost

  • Your my inspirational artist :)

  • How much does photoshop cs4 cost?

  • great job!!!

  • Je suis jalouse *_*

  • I hate you because you can afford a Wacom Intuos when I have to be stuck with Bamboo Fun. If I suck in digital paintings I blame it on that.

  • 1 people got a bug in the head and actually think he/she can do better.

  • I think you are very talented, but you really need to speak. Let others know how you achieve these results. Showing off your work is great, but why not let us hear a voice while painting? I can't stand watching these things without someone speaking and going through the steps. You took the time to show us the end result, now take the time and tell us how you got there. Otherwise this is just another speed painting, like the millions of other speed paintings on youtube. Just a though.

  • ok shit, nice job!

  • Oh this is SO cool.... I can't even draw a dragon and you can already paint one on the computer......... O_O

  • You're absolutely great! Do you also have traditional drawings, like with pencils and without computers? I'm trying to draw on photoshop these days, but it's very difficault I guess there will never be a day that I'm going to be as good as you!

    Do you also sell these?

  • Can you draw faster in real life or on a pc?The quality would be better on the pc most of the time, due to unimaginable supplies.

    Also,Suscribing. :D

  • O...M...G... This is so awesome!!!You really know to paint good :D !!!But why Dragon always has to by Brown, can you paint 1 Blue please? :3

  • Your insane, in a good way

  • You are one amazingly talented individual....

  • Amazing work! is this drawn with just a mouse? thanks :)

  • Dude i admire you! But it would be awesome if you draw a picture of deathwing! It would be awesome to see how you would make him

  • This real time ????? kkkkkk

  • Thank you so much for this! This is very very helpful! Oh, and the dragon looks absolutely astounding and badass, as always.

  • My body is here, but my eyes are in heaven.

    Thank you for uploading!

  • Thanks for putting all the parts of this dragon video.. :) its so great ur my favorite..

  • Is this the real time no speed play?

  • Omg! is this on a mouse or on a pad?

Im currently learning how to use my pad, practicing everyday!

How many layers do you use?

    Im subscribing!!

  • @tapp3r yep, to draw like this you should have a little bit of talent. I don't wanna say I have this talent, but I love drawing and I hope one day I can draw like this... I wont give up and practice. :) one of my dreams.

  • Thank you for putting this out... I really want to learn to draw better so I can show people all of the images I have in my head. These are really helpful. Personally I would add music behind the video, however it IS your video and if you feel that music would take away from the content that is your decision. Thank you again for putting this up :D

  • @Zargogo I totally agree with you! everyone can learn to draw great, if you just practise enough =)

  • Absolutely amazing man, nice job!

  • the stuff u can do is just...mind bogglin!!!

  • i am amazed :) i wuv yuu

  • You are amazing. Your abillities are a gift to the world of illustration. Although I have a couple of questions:

    1. When do you consider a piecwe a speedpainting and when an illustration(not neceserily fully finished, just concept art)

    2. Have you ever done something closer to "fine art"?

  • so how long have you been drawing dragons?

  • thank youuuu ^^

  • @R4idenX1 I really appreciate all the kind words, and especially the ones who said "thank you". ;-)

  • I just bought a wacom intuos 3 but I notice its kind of hard for me to draw while looking at computer screen and not at your hand... lol

  • you, are a true inspiration.

  • which is the blending mode of layer 2? color???

  • @Tinch92 It is on normal, and the brush is set to color (and a few other things for various parts).

  • @zombiejill jaja i didn't know you could do that... yet another proof of my lack of knowledge in photoshop xD thanks :)

  • cool piece, whould love to see more color in ur stuff though, its very monocromatic =(

  • Fantastic!

  • plzz do more realtime digital painting..plzzzz

  • Apparently one person can't wait around for a true master to finish. Excellent work, to add my two cents.

  • Dude, you are god or something..

  • At the end of these parts(and the new ones you make) you should zoom out for a few seconds so people can see what you have done on the whole picture so far(:

  • 1 person can't draw.

  • nice hand , great att. to detail... love your work

  • Did you take classes on this? jw

  • this is more detailed than the creature of The Last Gaurdian. just amazing.

  • I wish i could learn to draw like that someday :D sadly it's imposible to get skills like that just for wanting it XD

  • please draw me :(

  • Your work is always amazing, another great video and drawing, keep them coming

  • even if i repeat meyself, your skills are unreal.

your eye and patience for details are amazing and really make the difference.

  • even if i repeat meyself, your skills are unreal.

your eye and patience for details are amazing and really make the difference.

  • can't you upload this picture like your speed paintings aswell? :)

  • I love ur work its great!. 8)

  • please draw roc :(

  • I wish I could do that too... :(

  • this so amazing ... you are my hero.

  • You're my hero.

  • i can't believe you've been doing this entire thing with one layer o_O ..i don't think i'm that confident.. i'd rather delete a layer mistake, than have to redraw over it.

  • @Spanxxx i did this once... since then i save my pictures all 15 minutes...

  • @Spanxxx

confidence is key.. doubts and uncertainties should be thrown out of the window.. and that could be said for any profession, not just art

  • this is just too sick, which tools do you use to achieve this?

  • @McGaat ...just what you see highlighted in the tool palette.

  • @cgsbgs yes, well dumb question i guess. What i meant is, can you make a turorial or something to learn to do this amazing art!

  • @McGaat You can't learn to draw stuff like this, mate. It's something you're born with. Just like you can't learn to sing beautifully if you don't have a good singing voice. Not that I'm saying you can't draw, or sing for that matter.

  • @tapp3r you aren't just born drawing like picasso, though. you have to learn first... duh!

  • @Zargogo No one can draw like Picasso. And no, you don't have to learn first. "Duh". Learning from others only improve on your drawing skills slightly, but it doesn't affect your natural talent at all. If you can only draw stickmen today, you'll never be able to draw a realistic piece of art on your own, even after 40 years in art school. When it comes to drawing, you most of all learn your self how to draw. Your skills evolve as you draw, 'til you reach your ultimate limit.

  • @tapp3r No. Your talent, I believe, is your limit. Some people have a very high limit because they're really talented. Others have a very low talent. Saying that learning to draw only improves your skills "slightly" is just being very ignorant. Sure, there is some geniuses who can create amazing pieces of art, but to most of the human race you aren't simply born with the ability to draw a dragon such as this one. You have to learn the muscle patters, what joints go where, etc., etc.. :)

  • @Zargogo So you're saying that most of the human race can draw a dragon such as this one, just by learning from others.Even though they aren't born with the ability to? Well I have to disagree. That, if anything, is very ignorant to say. And yes, ones talent is ones limit, which was what I was going to say in the first place. And learning anatomy is a completely different thing, obviously that is going to help you draw whatever you wish to draw. But it's not going to help you artistically.

  • @tapp3r You don't understand. I didn't say most people can draw like this. I say people with the talent to do so can draw like so, but you can't draw this without going to school and learning how to draw things. You can't POSSIBLY know how all of the complicated lighting effects will look on the dragon, how the environment around it will reflect on it. There's just too many things that you can't even see in this drawing when you take a first glance at it, let alone draw it.

  • @Zargogo Art isn't about drawing perfect lines and what not, it's about ones personal touch and personal way to draw things. And those are not things you can learn from others. You don't need to learn anything about anatomy, material knowledge, architecture, or anything like that, to create an amazing piece of art.

  • @tapp3r Art isn't about perfect lines, that is true. However, first you must learn to draw perfect lines and then you can twist them. First you must learn the proper muscle structure and lighting effects on a human being and THEN you can toy around with them. Not the other way around.

  • @tapp3r There is no way one can be instantly amazing at anything. I am an artist myself. I may not be amazing, but all I know is it took several years of PRACTICE. And I personally hope to be as good or even better this person here, in this time frame, in the next 2 years or so, knowing my progression! :) Practice is EVERYTHING in the artist world.

  • @tapp3r I also believe that one who is not progress in art is one who is not learning. How do you learn? You learn from other people. That's how I got as far as I am. I have also helped out some of my friends who were artists and they BOOSTED in their artistic ability! They may have at first slightly grew off of my art style, but after a while they blossomed into their own unique style of art.

  • @tapp3r dude, you think this guy was this good when he started drawing. it takes years of practice and effort to achieve this level of drawing. He's naturally talented but it's mostly from the hard work he has put into it.

  • @tapp3r My prodigal child was able to draw a perfect portrait of raptor Jesus whilst holding the pencil with his asscrack, and he's only 3 weeks old. So I completely agree with you that drawing is a natural born talent and can't be attained by years of practice and study.

  • @tapp3r wow, that is so wrong on all levels....

  • @tapp3r i beg to disagree, yes you have to have some sort of gift to draw things like this, but that doesn't mean that you can't learn how to do it, it might take some time, but well... maybe someone that has some talent but isn't used to digital art sees this and gets inspired and starts working in his art to get better... even chris here didn't wake up one morning and started drawing terrific artwork like this one out of the blue. It takes practice but learning how to do it is not impossible

  • @tapp3r see? told you that you were wrong.

  • @tapp3r That's not true, being a professional drawer requires 10% talent and 90% effort and practice. The more talent you have the easier it will be, but even with the slightest bit of talent you can be a sick drawer if you just invest enough time in it.

  • @45640uberfreak

I agree. Infact, having too much talent in something may even be a bad thing. You get to a certain point where you're contempt with your own abilities and end up being lazy, and as a result you almost never strive to get better. The best situation is like you said, to have some talent but be a very hard worker. And what you said doesn't just apply to art, it applies to everything.

  • @tapp3r I'm sure you've heard it before, but drawing is a SKILL. It is a learn-able trade that takes years of honing and a passionate drive in order to be relatively good at. It may take longer for some people, but its all about practice practice practice.

  • @tapp3r It's usually a skill that is learned and trained. Usually takes years and years to master.

You are not born with it, though you are born with a certain certain amount of imagination depending on who's seed you came from and who popped you out. If the Father or Mother were artists, then the offspring will usually catch their aspirations very quickly at a young age.

  • @McGaat this is a tutorial.. watch what hes doing and do it...

  • Great vid CGSBGS!
