Interesting..I just looked at the phonebook page...not quite clear what the it's exactly about...also noticed that you also linked the "Market Day" video...Thanks...you obviously liked them :-)
Sauber! Sauber .. BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you Pauola, for commenting. These old cathedrals are beautiful and impressive. Bremen is a long way from Switzerland...but you might enjoy the cathedral in ULM in Swabia...
Ciao Beeke! Che bella città è Brema! Vun off my best students(ze girl is vun haff Churr-mun end vun haff Italian) hess gonn to liff dere: hair mazzer is fromm Bremen, too, ja.
...my son is living there since May of this year...got a Post-Doc Fellowship at the Jacobs University there...and my mother lives not far from there...so, enough reason for me to visit last summer.
Always a pleasure having YOU "stop by"...Beeke
Ps. Great your written version of a German accent!
are you for whom the bell tolls? this video is dy-no-mite!! (sorry, just watched a musof video and he told me to say dynomite. we're bringing back the adjective) :-)
Very nice to see the great artisan work in all aspects of the city. From the stones in the roads to the lions at the gates or doors. Lost is the desire to embelish with high art. Now it is better the cut labor costs rather than leave works of art for the future to see.
Ja... over here we are soo used to impermanence...I remember, when I first (35+ years ago) lived in Calgary...I was quite amused about many large signs which proudly read "Another Demolition Project by... "
Having grown up in a city which was 87% levelled during WW2...the idea of Demolition Projects...seemed rather odd...
I know modern architecture can be beautiful and inspirational and I know it would also cost a fortune these days to build in that same style, but when contemporary structures are falling down around our feet mere decades after construction, you have to wonder what did they know then that we simply don't now!
I believe they intended for them to last forever. We now forcast real estate by future value. So anything built apon it is less than the value of the land. History in US terms is decades not centuries or longer.
Hi Gary...thanks for dropping by...I see you have a nice "conversation there with Randy...
You are so right..and even if we tried to bild structures like that today...the spirit would no be there. The beauty of them is also that one feels that those who built those buildings...did all their work from a deep sense of it's importance to their own salvation...
It's out of focus

I think if I went there, they'd have to physically toss me out because I wouldn't leave, otherwise.
