@qwertypoiu4321 - Free trade is the leading cause of poverty in the United States. If you think that millions of starving Africans would suddenly own and operate semiconductor manufacturing facilities if only they didn't have to pay an import tax, then you are as delusional as the Pope.
@DoubleGauss - as opposed to the typical neocon, who's solution is to bomb the poor into oblivion. Consider this - for the money that was spent on Bush's wars, the United States could have given every man, woman and child in Iraq about $10,000 each for HALF of what was spent. How many enemies of America do you think there would have been after THAT humanitarian gesture? NO ONE would have been able to convince those people to attack America over ANYTHING after that for generations to come.
Planx, the government's one legitimate role is protecting the people. Therefore money spent on wars is legitimate use of taxpayer money if it's being fought to protect the American people. Both of Bush's wars were. The government's job is NOT giving freebies to people and being their nanny. As for enemies, we are the most generous nation on earth spending billions in foreign aid and yet so many countries still hate us. They hate us for no other reason except we are rich and powerful.
@DoubleGauss PROTECTING THE PEOPLE? ROFL! America CREATED hundreds of thousands of sworn enemies out of THIN AIR by bombing innocent civilians. 9/11 was an INSIDE JOB - everyone in the WHOLE DAMNED WORLD KNOWS THAT - everyone except stupid brainwashed Americans who think Fox News is reality. Get a clue!!! They hate you because you are rich and powerful? BAHAHAHAHA! They don't bomb Switzerland, do they? The Swiss are a LOT richer than you. They just don't bomb civilians. Wake up!
@DoubleGauss - You are a brainwashed fool. Get out of your trailer park and see the world. Then get back to me on who is the lost cause. OR - stay right there and enjoy your bankrupt police state.
What does a commie Soviet like you know about America anyway ? We kicked your butt in the Cold War, your country fell apart, and after all that the commies are now making a comeback. So just take a sip of that cheap vodka, wrap a blanket around yourself and worry about your own state of affairs.
Like in the US the biggest competitive sectors re agriculture which receives massive state subsidies. Technology which is often funded through the Pentagon so taxes then given to big corporations for them to get rich.....
That isn't leaving it to the market. Free markets are beneficial to those in power, big corporations who make billions, but not ordinary citizens and certainly not those is third world countries. Why the hell would those in power want to share it and lose their position?
The only way to end poverty is to bring freedom and democracy to all the countries on Earth, only under a free capitalist society with open free-markets and respect for the property, the rights and the liberty of its citizens we can end the injustices and bring prosperity and wealth to poor countries.
The West has been saying exactly that for the past 50 years or so. The mess has gotten bigger, millions of people are still starving in a world of plenty. We can now witness around us if we leave things up to "the market", because there is no level playing field. Governments and citizens need to do their part in ensuring justice and freedom for ALL.
"We can now witness around us if we leave things up to "the market""
The market is just n abstract representation of the needs of society, dont blame the political and economic freedom for the lack of development.
History has consistently show that private property and open free markets based on voluntarely exchanges are the foundations of free prosperous societies.
You don't need to take the people their property or their resources in the name of the state to do good.
"Governments and citizens need to do their part in ensuring justice and freedom for ALL. "
It is always a good thing for people to help, and that is not an opposite position to the defense of free capitalist society with free-markets and political and economic liberty.
that isn't true, free market policies have often accentuated poverty. Every country that has prospered wa due to pretty much the opposite, so protectionist policies ,etc..
What ur saying is just the thing u hear everywhere but its bs.
Just look it up if u dont belive me that's what Japan did and the ones around it that are prosper now, same for US, etc..
hey, greed causes a lot of things, so is selfishness, shouldn't you eliminate that too? glad you posted this, thanks for the info! nice video, keep em coming

@MrPlanx Read William Easterly, and learn basic economics.
If voluntary exchange is soo bad you can go live in the woods.

Typical liberal. The answer to every problem is to throw American taxpayer money at it.

That doesnt mean is not true
"The mess has gotten bigger, millions of people are still starving in a world of plenty."
Prosperity ad development do not come overnight, the last thing poor countries need is to fall to failed socialist policies.
