According to the SD hunting handbook "No person who is in or on a motor vehicle, except those hunters with Disabled Hunter Permits, may discharge a firearm or a bow and arrow at any wild animal except coyotes, jackrabbits, rodents, skunks, badgers, raccoons, and red and gray fox." So someone misinformed you I think.
@johnnybuckbrush That was my first time to SD. I didn't mean literally out of your truck. You could drive the roads and get out to shot birds on the road or easement.
