  • Shit! I think I'm going to cry.

  • When I first saw this movie, I had read the book first, but by golly, this song almost made the book go to shame. Figured part of it out on my clarinet too :D

Best crying scene ever though. Worth crying for.

  • I couldn't remember how this theme went, but as soon as the violin came in... goosebumps. That tells you what kind of memories and feelings this movie conjures.

  • :) I remember October Sky it was my brothers favorite movie, I liked too but not that much until I saw the ending.....*sniff* it was wonderful the most greatest scene i've ever seen. This song is so beautiful that it inspired me to keep going and going until the end.

  • anyone who has a parent, here or in heaven, will love this movie and this song. I love you Dad.

    greetings World

  • I met the author, aka the real Sonny Hickam, a few days ago. :) It was such an inspiration shaking his hand. He signed my book, "to roxanne, a true rocket girl!"

  • It's on right now. I want to cry.

  • I know what it's like to come from a small town you think you can't escape. everyone always says nobody ever leaves and this song just gives me hope. I still can't make it though the movie without sobbing.

  • I cried at the part when his dad puts his arm on his sons shoulder. Sometimes parent's may not always understand why you dream so big and put so much energy into becoming something no one would think you can ever do. This movie shows that you can always follow your dreams threw... and it's never easy to make those dreams come true. Yet, it dosen't mean that dreams never come true just means you must work hard to make them a reality.

  • How can I find this on iTunes?

  • Ever since my dad was a little boy he has been interested in space science and physics. He has always tried to get me into it. But i never really got into it. So just for him I bought a rocket when I was 9. And we both worked on it for years. We finally launched it when I was 17. And when it reached the stars he cried and told me "We finally did it boy." To this day, I am following in his footsteps to become an astronomer and reach for the stars just like he did to make him the proudest dad ever

  • @fokshill

May our own dreams be carried on the wings of yours. Cheers to the dreamer who believes in the stars.

  • @fokshill Damn, what kind of rocket?

  • 13 people have terrible mouse control skills

  • This movie inspired me greatly and convinced me engineering was a profession to go into. Makes me cry every time.

  • 13 people never lived in a mining town

  • @JoeBro715 lol thats my big plan right now, tuition is high but I'm still trying.

  • I first watched this move in 6th grade ever since..I've loved everything that has to do with space, and wanted to go there one day. I can watch this movie every day for the rest of my life, and I dont think I will ever be tired of it. This is my all time favorite movie. Sooo I probably wont be an astronaut but I hope to create films that will have such an impact on my life as this did.

  • No movie that anybody can come up with can really have as much of an impact on me as this did, except possibly Black Hawk Down.

  • Chills running down my spine . . .

  • movie's most crying scene was when homer's father put his hand on his son's shoulder......man i will die for that single thing.....yup, i'm sure,

  • This song made me want talk my girlfriend into getting an abortion, we don't need this faggotry to continue.

  • I watched this a year ago in school. I think its the only movie I liked that they made us watch there, and probably the best movie ive watched.

  • I'm still just a young kid with a lot of growing up to do but watching this movie listening to this song it's reminded me over and over that no goal or dream is ever out of your reach and as long as I have my dream nothing can stop me from making it a reality.

  • @LAJcroo Having both cancer and aids.

  • @apu1homer Nope. Not even that. AIDs, maybe, because it's hardly ever anybody's fault but your own that you have it, but cancer never stopped anybody that set their mind on a goal.

  • what a song, what a movie, what a history. just perfect for me.

  • this song made me cry the first time i heard it

  • truly amazing movie..."sometimes one dream is enough to light up the sky"

  • what is this song called it is really cool

  • @80histoman1234

The actual name of this track is October Sky, track 23 from the original soundtrack.

  • Best. Movie. Ever.

    All arguers are tools...

  • @MrDefeatist I'd put Saving Private Ryan up against it!

  • @GoopLoopScoop, u had to watch this for middle school? I had to watch this for a freshman book report for high school cuz I graduated as a 2011 graduate from middle school

  • I watched this movie in science class as our introduction to Astronomy. It was probably one of the best films any teacher had made us watched. Right up with Glory for social studies at the end of the school year. I can't wait to see the directors next film, Captain America: The First Avengers. Listening to this theme makes me miss school a lot. 7th grade...Ahh, the best year of my damn fucking life.

  • isnt this Mendelssohn Violin Concerto Mvt.2?

  • Brought here by Ponies, and proud of it. Especially since this goes perfectly with what I was just reading.

  • such a good movie and this song is undesribable.. This movie has helped me to become a better person and inspired me.

  • 10 ppl had their de Laval nozzle stolen too.

  • homer is now a nasa engineer

  • So who else is here because of 4chan?

  • @TheNickrin nobody, im here cus of my science teacher

  • this music can make anything seem epic or sad

  • They should copy and distribute this soundtrack. I found it for $40-$100 on-line! I understand its not in production anymore. But it's in large demand. 220,000+ views on this video alone and daily posts. COME ON!!

  • @CichuniecFamily

    i know!!!! i need this soundtrack!! :(

  • October Sky movie... My reaction to this movie:

    -Inspiring.

    -Powerful.

    -Amazing.

    -Embracing.

Such an amazing example that dreams can come true. People, don't give up on your dreams, when Homer and the Rocket Boys were being bullied, they pulled them off and showed them who the Rocket Boys really are. And now look at the Rocket Boys, famous as they ever were. This beautiful movie impacted me so much! The Rocket Boys and their adventures, now..... that's a story, alright.

    God bless you.

  • Those ten people don't matter. But the 696 people including myself who like this will be going places those 10 won't.

  • 10 people just dont like music

  • this song is sad, proud, humble and content all at the same time.

  • 10 people have no emotion!!!

  • I watched this movie recently and no matter how sad it is I usually NEVER cry... I cried at the ending of this movie.

  • life is full of dreams and hopes and sometimes they both come true..so don't give up on yourself......you might be surprised one day when one of your dreams become reality..

  • @malefrmbk Amen and Thank you.

  • @aaronmb83 amen and your welcome....

  • i love how this movie shows people that west virginia isn't just hick park. it really makes me proud that people from my state can do great things

  • @sparkles673 ya buddy

  • Would make a perfect graduation song

  • This song at some points sounds like ashoka farewell

  • Every time I see this, I try to re-arrange October Sky back into Rocket Boys.

  • Always aim for the stars and never stop chasing your dreams, for you will never fall short of them.

  • @aaronmb83

I must disagree. Aiming for the stars and chasing dreams does not guarentee their fulfillment. More often than not you will fall short of them. Homer Hickam is the exception not the rule.

However, those who chase their dreams and fall short will always have more satisfaction than those who sit on their hands doing nothing.

I'm all for dreams but come down to reality please.

  • @Mjsmecha Bubba, My phrase was a phrase of inspiration. Clearly, you did not comprehend that. So why don't you come down to reality yourself and take a re-look at the phrase. It is meant to inspire others to always dream for the better. Its people like you that will say that "Mining Coal is perfectly normal." You need to watch what you say, because there are lots of youngsters out there who believe in chasing after the future and the unknown. Next time, think what it means to chase the stars.

  • sad sad song and a great movie, right up there with titanic in my mind!

  • I saw this movie after a test in science class, thinking it was going to be very stupid. In the end i had to hold back tears when i heard this music. It's a beautiful movie with amazing music. It's such an inspiration :')

  • This piece of music is literally the personification of the American Dream, to go beyond the limits the world sets for you.

  • @JoeBro715 I am still in high school (a junior who could have been a senior) , I am very active though outside of school. I taught myself everything involving aerospace and highly educated myself about things involving that. In reference to that last part of my statement I do not think the AF will be using it but I would like to send it to Boeing before I graduate. out of curiosity what school or university do you go too?

  • @emerychandler I was thinking of that as well, right now its in my top choices along with the Air force academy and baylor. If we are lucky we just may meet in college, that would be cool. may I ask what is your goal for when you get out of college?

  • @emerychandler I'm studying nuclear physics at MIT. I graduate with honors next year.

  • @JoeBro715 Yeah I'm the jerk....because your post isn't dripping with narcissism and vanity.

You opened yourself up to critiquing and ridicule when you posted your "bad ass" stats. You could have just said..."wow this song made me cry" but you had to go that extra mile.

At your height and being a "body builder" that isn't very impressive 210 is small.

  • i know what i'm doing over the summer now!

  • @connormcfall i am going this summer too

  • @connormcfall and if you wanna listen to other Wv songs heres a list 1.D.Ray white by Hank 3 (2.)country roads by john denver. prolly more but thats all i got for now :P

  • i just love watching movies based on my home state West Virginia

  • I felt so proud of my son when he said he promised me that he would always aim for he stars and would never quit on his dreams. What can a father do on that besides to hug him and hold him and tell him that you are so proud of him?

  • " A rocket wont fly unless someone lights the fuse."

  • Anyone know the instrumentation? Is it an orchestra with a woodwind quintet?

  • Sometimes, you gotta believe in yourself, and then something more, cause thats what makes you, you, and whatever it is, believe with your whole heart, cause then with each beat you live it, and to the skies you will become, as those whom believe will lift yours to the World's skies, and all the people of the Earth will watch.

  • "There’s a very basic human, non-verbal aspect to our need to make music and use it as part of our human expression. It doesn’t have to do with body movements, it doesn't have to do with articulation of a language, but with something spiritual."- John Williams

  • @Ethan hunt - made me and cousin cry for a day.. awesome movie

  • Play what results you get for "Ashokan Farewell" and this piece together, but start this one about 20 seconds or so before. It sounds pretty great.

  • @bepetersn Also make sure "Ashokan Farewell" is playing about twice as loud as this piece, because it's slower.

  • Every time I listen to this it gets better... like 10 times a day. srs.

  • This music makes me, a 27 year old male, husband, and father of two still want to grow up to be an astronaut.

  • @aaronmb83 God Bless you, man. Nice to know people still have that kind of heart.

  • @4midfielder Thank You

  • @aaronmb83 What do you do now?

  • @giwannabe13 I am an officer in the United States Air Force who is happily married and is blessed with two wonderful kids. Thanks for asking :)

  • @aaronmb83 You are blessed! If you are active duty, I will be praying for you (Unless you particularly don't want me to.) I hope to be an officer in the United States Army

  • @giwannabe13 Go ahead and pray for I will never forget you. My wife deploys here shortly. I'll pray for you to get your commission. Don't ever quit! I'll leave you with this quote: At on point, both side consider themselves to be lost, but he who continues to fight...wins!

  • @aaronmb83 Outstanding !!! So do I !!!!

  • Um... I built an ROV. It kind of does the opposite of a rocket. Now I just need some inspirational music and a lot of coal.

  • 10 people never left coalwood

  • @IconMatthew1 but many left the Earth! :-)

  • @IconMatthew1 hahaha

  • Man, I feel my soul nurturing itself everytime I hear this song... never felt this feeling with other song before. Amazing what music can make you feel!

  • There are few things so precious in this world. They say the soul is just a corporal thing inside of us. It gives us personality, our own unique attitude in this island world we call home. Of the 6 billion people in this world there can only be one you. I see the dislikes for this video and I think that their soul must be out of harmony. But for the 650 of yo u who see the true value this song has for your soul I commend you and I commend this composer for opening the gateway for us all.

  • @IronFistCallahan I absolutely love this music, don't fret. But just so you know, Plato proved that souls cannot be akin to a harmony because a harmony can be more or less of a harmony, and a soul cannot be more or less of a soul. Not a diss or whatever, just fyi.

  • There's gonna be some stuff that your gonna see that's gonna make it hard to smile in the future. But through whatever you see through all the rain and the pain you gotta keep your sense of humor.

  • I love imagining building a rocket and sending it up when I listen to this :)

  • 1950's kids built rockets... Nowadays kids waste their time on the fucking FACEBOOK

  • @TheWeisszil .unfortunately it shows how priorities have changed over the decades. kids today are even more concerned/obsessed with what their peers think and being popular than in the past.

  • @TheWeisszil lol they made a movie about that too but all the kid did was cheat steal and lie along with copy his way to making facebook not like these guys

  • @Americamybutt I know you answered this a year ago but I just now remembered it AND have a mac and Garageband....but now I don't know what to do. When I open Garageband up, it looks like I need to play or record something...any ideas?

  • the question is ? theys can ¡ why I´not can do my dreams

  • the question is , they can ¡ why I not

  • @zerty3 what the christ. You, sir or madame, are amazing. I never thought of that.

  • I remember watching this in 5th grade and looking into the sky and wanting to fly just as fast as homer's rockets did. I am not there yet but im staring it down through my sights. I broke my Civil air Patrol Squadrons historical record with being the fastest in to teach Aerospace and the only one ever to design a UAV that as of right now may very well possibly bought, built, and flown by the United states Air Force.

  • 10 people don't like building rockets

  • can't believe that Mark Isham wasn't nominated or didn't win an oscar for best score

  • I can't believe 10 people clicked dislike....this is one of the greatest movies ever, along with a great song. This song is amazing.

  • just the first few notes on the violin gives me goosbumps...

  • The greatest story known to man :)

  • This is :)

  • this video is the best song it makes me want to cry!!!!!!!

  • October sky is one of the most inspirational movies I've ever seen, and this song and film have and still do strike a chord in my heart. It truly motivated me to pursue my dreams in the aerospace field, and this summer I will be going to flight school to pursue my dream. I will never forget it.

  • @ThaGVPSon that is just so dang true this is the 1st greatest story ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song just made a 210, 6'5'' body builder, and Brazilian Jujitsu Third Degree Black Belt cry. -Me.

  • @meep6500 I just saw your profile and you made that description of yourself up. what a tool.

  • @meep6500 6'5" 210? That's it?

  • @meep6500 Manly tears have just been shed

  • @meep6500 You are a faggot! Bitch!

  • I feel so complete when I hear this song... as if everything is going to be fine. I've never experienced a feeling of wonderous accomplishment yet, but when I do, I hope this song is playing where I can hear it when it happens.

  • 10 people look up to the heavens and see only darkness....

  • who the hell said that they dont like this song?

  • who the hell said that they dont like this song?

  • ;( this song is so beautiful, when i watched the movie i realized i was in tears

  • sounds like the song played by the musicians in the titanic xDDDDD

  • I feel the same way, I'm a mechanical engineer at UofM looking to get a masters in launch vehicles (rockets) because of this movie :)

  • I get goosebumps everytime I hear this theme. Definitely one of the few movies that have left a profound impact on me. If Homer was able to become so successful even when all odds were against him, then why can't we achieve our dreams when we have so many people and resources that are rooting for us? We can do anything-go to the moon, discover a cure for cancer, play for a major sports team, write a book, etc. We just need to act on our dreams.

  • only this movie and Rudy can make my eyes water

  • Tears... manly tears every time I see thsi movie.

  • Gentlemen, it was an honor flying with you tonight.

  • classic!!!

  • The most frustrating thing ever is trying to find this song so I can add it onto my mp3 player! I looked at CD pricing and the soundtrack is running for about $54 on Amazon... that can't be right, can it?

  • I must express my gratitude for those who realize their dream, inspired by a dream and nurtured by ambition to strive forwards and look beyond the mainstream, for those who succumb to the reality of life, unrealistic dreams and false hope, the only vilification in life is the dream itself, If you don't follow your dreams you might as well be a cabbage, life is really not worth living if one's world is dominated by what could have been. I have failed, I respectfully request that others do not.

  • most amazing movie ever.

  • I watched this in theaters with my Dad when i was in 5th grade. My Dad was just like Homers, always on my case, emotionally and physically "abusing" me. We both walked out and got dinner and talked everything over. My Dad always wanted the best for me and i knew it but he also always wanted what he "Thought was best". He finally realized that and although he and I had a shaky relationship even after we have a great relationship. This movie and its soundtrack will always have a place in my heart.

  • I ball like a baby everytime I hear this!!! Thank you so much for uploading! And you know, why do poeple have to say dislike? If you don't like it, don't say anything! When I see the dislikes it just makes me sad and it kind of ruines it for me. :(

  • I saw this movie as a young boy of about 6 years old. it did nothing less than change me forever. i truly believe this movie was the spark that light the fire to my entire future. i am currently enrolled i a technical school as a 16 year old sophomore and am on track with its aeronautical engineering class and have plans of majoring in aeronautical/aerospace engineering, and becoming a pilot for the United States Air Force.

  • @L363ND3RY Congrats dude

  • @L363ND3RY That is my goal as well. I am seriously considering becoming a pilot for the Air force. This movie motivates you so much and I am incredibly glad I watched it. Good luck with your career

  • this is beautiful!

  • @disturbedgir11

no she didn't. the main characters in that movie were meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and Bruce Willis.

  • This movie is so inspiring. I too also watched it my 7th grade year and loved it. I just recently watched it this movie again in my science class, and it reminded me just how much October Sky is one of the best movies I have ever seen!! (:

  • It's a shame this film didn't win its Oscar, but oh well.

  • A beautiful soundtrack from an Inspiring Movie. I watched this movie in the 7th grade as well, and I loved it. A Very inspiring film, and the music was phenomenal.

  • Music is the expression of our lives, in the moments where words are no where near enough.

    -Tim Greenwood-

  • I once lost sight of my dream to get into MIT. I had always wanted to go but I didn't believe in myself. I stopped trying in the subjects that I loved and I forgot who I was. Now as senior year rolls along I am starting to gain hope back, hope that I should of had all along. I was recently deferred from early action. Thank you Dermas976, thank you October Skies, thank you Homer, and thank you music.

  • @RocketBoy3141: It's not about where you go, but rather what you strive for. And, by the way, I was deferred from early action as well. Clearly, the second time can be the charm. If you'd like to talk about your ambitions, advice of how I dealt with those months between early action and regular decision, or overall to talk about where you see yourself shooting for the stars, please drop me a note. Nothing makes for a better conversation than people who are passionate about learning.
