When I first saw this movie, I had read the book first, but by golly, this song almost made the book go to shame. Figured part of it out on my clarinet too :D
I couldn't remember how this theme went, but as soon as the violin came in... goosebumps. That tells you what kind of memories and feelings this movie conjures.
:) I remember October Sky it was my brothers favorite movie, I liked too but not that much until I saw the ending.....*sniff* it was wonderful the most greatest scene i've ever seen. This song is so beautiful that it inspired me to keep going and going until the end.
I met the author, aka the real Sonny Hickam, a few days ago. :) It was such an inspiration shaking his hand. He signed my book, "to roxanne, a true rocket girl!"
I know what it's like to come from a small town you think you can't escape. everyone always says nobody ever leaves and this song just gives me hope. I still can't make it though the movie without sobbing.
I cried at the part when his dad puts his arm on his sons shoulder. Sometimes parent's may not always understand why you dream so big and put so much energy into becoming something no one would think you can ever do. This movie shows that you can always follow your dreams threw... and it's never easy to make those dreams come true. Yet, it dosen't mean that dreams never come true just means you must work hard to make them a reality.
Ever since my dad was a little boy he has been interested in space science and physics. He has always tried to get me into it. But i never really got into it. So just for him I bought a rocket when I was 9. And we both worked on it for years. We finally launched it when I was 17. And when it reached the stars he cried and told me "We finally did it boy." To this day, I am following in his footsteps to become an astronomer and reach for the stars just like he did to make him the proudest dad ever
I first watched this move in 6th grade ever since..I've loved everything that has to do with space, and wanted to go there one day. I can watch this movie every day for the rest of my life, and I dont think I will ever be tired of it. This is my all time favorite movie. Sooo I probably wont be an astronaut but I hope to create films that will have such an impact on my life as this did.
I'm still just a young kid with a lot of growing up to do but watching this movie listening to this song it's reminded me over and over that no goal or dream is ever out of your reach and as long as I have my dream nothing can stop me from making it a reality.
@apu1homer Nope. Not even that. AIDs, maybe, because it's hardly ever anybody's fault but your own that you have it, but cancer never stopped anybody that set their mind on a goal.
@GoopLoopScoop, u had to watch this for middle school? I had to watch this for a freshman book report for high school cuz I graduated as a 2011 graduate from middle school
I watched this movie in science class as our introduction to Astronomy. It was probably one of the best films any teacher had made us watched. Right up with Glory for social studies at the end of the school year. I can't wait to see the directors next film, Captain America: The First Avengers. Listening to this theme makes me miss school a lot. 7th grade...Ahh, the best year of my damn fucking life.
They should copy and distribute this soundtrack. I found it for $40-$100 on-line! I understand its not in production anymore. But it's in large demand. 220,000+ views on this video alone and daily posts. COME ON!!
Such an amazing example that dreams can come true. People, don't give up on your dreams, when Homer and the Rocket Boys were being bullied, they pulled them off and showed them who the Rocket Boys really are. And now look at the Rocket Boys, famous as they ever were. This beautiful movie impacted me so much! The Rocket Boys and their adventures, now..... that's a story, alright.
life is full of dreams and hopes and sometimes they both come true..so don't give up on yourself......you might be surprised one day when one of your dreams become reality..

Man, I feel my soul nurturing itself everytime I hear this song... never felt this feeling with other song before. Amazing what music can make you feel!
There are few things so precious in this world. They say the soul is just a corporal thing inside of us. It gives us personality, our own unique attitude in this island world we call home. Of the 6 billion people in this world there can only be one you. I see the dislikes for this video and I think that their soul must be out of harmony. But for the 650 of yo u who see the true value this song has for your soul I commend you and I commend this composer for opening the gateway for us all.
@IronFistCallahan I absolutely love this music, don't fret. But just so you know, Plato proved that souls cannot be akin to a harmony because a harmony can be more or less of a harmony, and a soul cannot be more or less of a soul. Not a diss or whatever, just fyi.

There's gonna be some stuff that your gonna see that's gonna make it hard to smile in the future. But through whatever you see through all the rain and the pain you gotta keep your sense of humor.
@TheWeisszil .unfortunately it shows how priorities have changed over the decades. kids today are even more concerned/obsessed with what their peers think and being popular than in the past.
@TheWeisszil lol they made a movie about that too but all the kid did was cheat steal and lie along with copy his way to making facebook not like these guys
@Americamybutt I know you answered this a year ago but I just now remembered it AND have a mac and Garageband....but now I don't know what to do. When I open Garageband up, it looks like I need to play or record something...any ideas?
I remember watching this in 5th grade and looking into the sky and wanting to fly just as fast as homer's rockets did. I am not there yet but im staring it down through my sights. I broke my Civil air Patrol Squadrons historical record with being the fastest in to teach Aerospace and the only one ever to design a UAV that as of right now may very well possibly bought, built, and flown by the United states Air Force.
October sky is one of the most inspirational movies I've ever seen, and this song and film have and still do strike a chord in my heart. It truly motivated me to pursue my dreams in the aerospace field, and this summer I will be going to flight school to pursue my dream. I will never forget it.
I feel so complete when I hear this song... as if everything is going to be fine. I've never experienced a feeling of wonderous accomplishment yet, but when I do, I hope this song is playing where I can hear it when it happens.
I get goosebumps everytime I hear this theme. Definitely one of the few movies that have left a profound impact on me. If Homer was able to become so successful even when all odds were against him, then why can't we achieve our dreams when we have so many people and resources that are rooting for us? We can do anything-go to the moon, discover a cure for cancer, play for a major sports team, write a book, etc. We just need to act on our dreams.
The most frustrating thing ever is trying to find this song so I can add it onto my mp3 player! I looked at CD pricing and the soundtrack is running for about $54 on Amazon... that can't be right, can it?
I must express my gratitude for those who realize their dream, inspired by a dream and nurtured by ambition to strive forwards and look beyond the mainstream, for those who succumb to the reality of life, unrealistic dreams and false hope, the only vilification in life is the dream itself, If you don't follow your dreams you might as well be a cabbage, life is really not worth living if one's world is dominated by what could have been. I have failed, I respectfully request that others do not.
I watched this in theaters with my Dad when i was in 5th grade. My Dad was just like Homers, always on my case, emotionally and physically "abusing" me. We both walked out and got dinner and talked everything over. My Dad always wanted the best for me and i knew it but he also always wanted what he "Thought was best". He finally realized that and although he and I had a shaky relationship even after we have a great relationship. This movie and its soundtrack will always have a place in my heart.
I ball like a baby everytime I hear this!!! Thank you so much for uploading! And you know, why do poeple have to say dislike? If you don't like it, don't say anything! When I see the dislikes it just makes me sad and it kind of ruines it for me. :(
I saw this movie as a young boy of about 6 years old. it did nothing less than change me forever. i truly believe this movie was the spark that light the fire to my entire future. i am currently enrolled i a technical school as a 16 year old sophomore and am on track with its aeronautical engineering class and have plans of majoring in aeronautical/aerospace engineering, and becoming a pilot for the United States Air Force.
@L363ND3RY That is my goal as well. I am seriously considering becoming a pilot for the Air force. This movie motivates you so much and I am incredibly glad I watched it. Good luck with your career
This movie is so inspiring. I too also watched it my 7th grade year and loved it. I just recently watched it this movie again in my science class, and it reminded me just how much October Sky is one of the best movies I have ever seen!! (:
A beautiful soundtrack from an Inspiring Movie. I watched this movie in the 7th grade as well, and I loved it. A Very inspiring film, and the music was phenomenal.
"im still in 7th right now after reading some of your comments and watching the movie like a 100 times :D .it really inspired me to follow my dreams as owner of Liverpool.f.c some day, i know it will be hard but it will worth chasing after"

I once lost sight of my dream to get into MIT. I had always wanted to go but I didn't believe in myself. I stopped trying in the subjects that I loved and I forgot who I was. Now as senior year rolls along I am starting to gain hope back, hope that I should of had all along. I was recently deferred from early action. Thank you Dermas976, thank you October Skies, thank you Homer, and thank you music.
@RocketBoy3141: It's not about where you go, but rather what you strive for. And, by the way, I was deferred from early action as well. Clearly, the second time can be the charm. If you'd like to talk about your ambitions, advice of how I dealt with those months between early action and regular decision, or overall to talk about where you see yourself shooting for the stars, please drop me a note. Nothing makes for a better conversation than people who are passionate about learning.
I once lost hope for my dream to go to MIT. Dermas976, this movie and this song gave me hope back. They have reminded me that my childhood dreams can become real. I will be applying to MIT regular action after being deferred from early action. Thank you Dermas976.

IronFistCallahan 9 months ago 2
@IronFistCallahan I absolutely love this music, don't fret. But just so you know, Plato proved that souls cannot be akin to a harmony because a harmony can be more or less of a harmony, and a soul cannot be more or less of a soul. Not a diss or whatever, just fyi.

There's gonna be some stuff that your gonna see that's gonna make it hard to smile in the future. But through whatever you see through all the rain and the pain you gotta keep your sense of humor.

1950's kids built rockets... Nowadays kids waste their time on the fucking FACEBOOK

@TheWeisszil .unfortunately it shows how priorities have changed over the decades. kids today are even more concerned/obsessed with what their peers think and being popular than in the past.
mbenzsl2000 9 months ago
@TheWeisszil lol they made a movie about that too but all the kid did was cheat steal and lie along with copy his way to making facebook not like these guys

RocketBoy3141 1 year ago 3
@RocketBoy3141: It's not about where you go, but rather what you strive for. And, by the way, I was deferred from early action as well. Clearly, the second time can be the charm. If you'd like to talk about your ambitions, advice of how I dealt with those months between early action and regular decision, or overall to talk about where you see yourself shooting for the stars, please drop me a note. Nothing makes for a better conversation than people who are passionate about learning.
