So great to see a jazz player at such a young age! he's definitely going far with his career. by the time he's 17 he'll be another Tony Williams haha! cant wait!
8 years old! That's amazing, I have over 200 students and none of them would be able to improvise in that style!
He has music in him and he's going to be a great musician if he works hard at his talent!
Some of these people obviously don't know that jazz is by far the most difficult style of drumming to master because it requires 4 way co-ordination. That's 4 DIFFERENT things being played at the same time. Most 16 year olds don't have this ability! That's why most of them play rock music.
Maybe not a prodigy, but did you see the video of him playing at 6 years old? He is a great drummer for his age. I think the previous video actually shows his talent a little more. He is trading fours...tries to get his left hand going like a jazz drummer a couple times....really impressive.
Who the hell are these assholes putting down an 8 year old? I'm reading these dumb ass comments and can come to only one conclusion. Either they know nothing about Jazz or the are jealous of an 8 year old.
okay, so he SOUNDS good, wich is pretty important, but i have two main issues with this. the first is that his technique is sorely lacking, wich is really important, since jazz is one of the most technically difficult styles to play. it looks okay in this vid, but from watching some of his other vids, it needs some work. yes, usually set drummers have a more lax style, but they shouldnt. fix it, and then MAYBE you can call him a prodigy
I have one solution.. He's only 8.. practice will make him better.. when he's 10 he'll be really good.. so stop trying to knock videos.. that make you feel good about yourself? raggin on an 8 year old? get a fucking life you nerd
your son is very talented and you should hold your head high .. on the other hand he is not a prodigy but will be a musician like his father , if he loves it then thats all that matters .. well in that i say good luck to his journey!
I don't really think this kid is a prodigy, but more of a plain child who was forced to play drum set as an infant, probably by his parents. Nevertheless, he's pretty good.
I suppose its because I have grown tired of the inanity of the comments function on Youtube and because listening to your opinions on drumming is much the same as listening to a baboon lecture on the importance of Coltrane...it's essentially nonsensical.
First of all, I guess you mean insanity, which still doesn't make sense. Second, I don't know what the heck you mean by comments function. Third, A baboon lecture would be pretty exciting, considering they don't speak english. Fourth, the lecture would be about coltrane (Jazz musician) so it still would be exciting. Stop trying to sound smart, because there are a number of grammatical and spelling errors in your run-on sentence.
@DoPlease its sad how even with a computer you didn't look of the word inanity, which root word happens to be inane..lol but ill enjoy being a mediator and continue watching people slam on each other via youtube. in this case you weren't the victor but hey good try. im gonna go back to my room and watch some baboons heave shit at each other now..and kid keep up the good work on the drums..im sure ur quite the beast now
@LoveSkittleForever trust me man...even if you dont like it that much...its pretty heavy that a 8 year old is playin coltrane......just think about it though...what were you doing at the age of 8 lol....the drums do sound pretty bad though...lol
Can everyone quit mentioning Tony Royster freakin' Jnr. The man is like 34 and has about 3 kids and a coupla crack addictions behind him. Taiga is fresh and awesome.
By the way Taiga's dad is also a musician, he's the sax player in this track.
He just released his first CD. Guiness World Records will record him as being the youngest drummer to release a jazz CD. Very Cool!! Congratulations, Taiga!! PLAY THOSE DRUMS!!! AWESOME!!
if u forget about what u know about jazz drums and just listen to what he is playing you will actually her quite a deep intense rhythm...its rather impressive imo, regardless of whether he was supposed to play something else, hes rocking that shit bigtime!!!!
First and foremost, If you cant do it dont hate. If you could do that at 8 shut up. He will be a professional drummer and endorsements He's a kid give him a break.
Keep up the good work!!! These young drummers on youtube are doing something positive and have a good hobby that keeps them off video games. There is plenty of room for good drummers in the world...Keeping REAL MUSIC alive!!! Down with Drum Machines!
Tony ROYSTER Jr. by the way, and if you knew anything about drums you'd know that regardless of how hyped up he seems to be, in all actuality he IS 10x better than this kid. Sure this kid is pretty impressive for his AGE but in the grand scheme of things he lacks skill in some of the most basic areas of drumming. Tony Royster blows this kid away
Yo, this kid is soloing on a Coltrane tune at 8!!! Mind you, there are rappers at 25 whom dare to call themselves "artists". This kid, along with the other outstanding young drummers etc. on Youtube are amazing. BTW... at 12/13 I was playing 5 different instruments as well.
Actually Touring all over the country and have played with several major acts! Thank you dont get too cocky! Keep in mind you are praising a 6 year old who cant do fills and barley hold tempo which hurts this band over all!
So what? Akira Jimbo isn't Billy Cobham but they both can play. STFU and give props where they are due. Don't put children down, they may be the next to lead.
Are you out of your mind? Check him as a 6 year old and you can see him 'keep a beat' -- he's playing a solo on a Coltrane tune...does that mean ANYTHING to you!
it would sound that way, but that's actually a style. if you've ever heard those jazz trumpet solos that leap all over the music chart, people used to think that they were missing notes and screwing up as well. i think it's just whether you're used to the style or not.
So great to see a jazz player at such a young age! he's definitely going far with his career. by the time he's 17 he'll be another Tony Williams haha! cant wait!

You want us to validate the opinion of someone who hasn't learned how to use plurals?
Perhaps you need to do a little crash course on jazz improvisation, and, while you're at it, English grammar.

What are you talking about plurals for? dude, im just talking about the drums.
