The only airline in north america today with more then three stars is Southwest Airlines but they only fly domestic. First time I flew AA was a non-stop from DFW > Tokyo-NRT. This was the music played during the safety video. Periodically throughout the 12hr:50min flight I would go through the video archive on the seat t.v and watch the safety video just to hear the music!! lol
i absolutely LOVE american airlines! we didn't fly anyone else back home to Chicago when we were living in London. the only problem we ever had with them was that liquid bombing attempt in 2006, however that wasn't really in their control... so yeah, absolutely no faults!

Whatever we all may think of American Airlines or any other airline for that matter - one thing is certain - this is one of the best airline commercials ever. Designed to elicit emotions - it does its job perfectly - I always tear up a little whenever I see it.

Let me just say this about AA. I will walk before I ever get on one of their aircraft. They know nothing about customer service. NOTHING. They have lost over $6000 worth of future sales from me.
I love American Airlines. I am British and often fly to JFK to visit family who live their, I always flew British airways until about 4 months ago when BA just stated to deteriorate even worse, a friend said that American were good so I thought I'd give them a try. 13 flights later to several different states and still cannot fault American.
I agree. JetBlue generally has good service, but they can fail very horribly. But American's the best. Great schedules, nice flight attendants, and superb frequent flyer program. What more could you ask for? TrueBlue sucks and JetBlue screwed me over so badly. They blame the weather, but that was only one part of the story.

Really sends nostalgic feelings through the roof. Makes you think of all those early mornings at a quiet airport, watching the sunrise over the runway with all of the planes inactive. You slowly watch the airport get busy as you wait to board your flight. Great feelings.

Just arrived in Tokyo two days ago...greata flight, great FA's, and a captain with a cool name...Arch Archer! (or that's what it sounded like!) I can't comment on AA out of JFK cuz I don't fly outta that airport. I can say though, that AA has always gotten me to where I need to go, safely and mostly on time. They also have a very user friendly frequent flier program. I never have trouble using my miles!
I don't care what my flight attendants look like, that is NOT their reason to be on that plane. I am happy that US airlines are not allowed to discriminate against their FA's, based on their age, race, religion, sexual preference. It's a sad commentary when you view people based on their looks. How truly shallow!
I am a ff of AA. I love em. I have no idea why they get poorly rated? I have flown Continental,NWA,United, all on international long haul flights. I have to say AA was the hands down best of all of them. Yep, we've been delayed at O'hare numerous times, but honestly, I don't wanna fly in a huge thunderstorm, ice storm, or blizzard. I can't fault AA for that. I want to say thanks to all the flight attendants I have met on my frequent flights to Narita, always professional and kind.
EXACTLY! I will be flying on AA 167 from JFK to Tokyo-Narita, my 3rd time flying on that flight, in September and also AA 168, my 2nd time on that flight. American's good. It might not be as good as some international airlines, but it sure beats Cathay Pacific in coach. I hate those damn flight attendants who think they're so great and got hired because they look good. I'd rather have frank American Airlines attendants serving me than those CX attendants.
And yes, the Narita attendants based at ORD are good too. I have flown on AA 154 too, but I like the ones based out of JFK just a tad more. Maybe it's because I'm a bit biased as a New Yorker, but their new terminal at JFK is really nice!

rain... there's more to the situation than you know... airlines just don't cancel flights JUST BECAUSE... that's one thing I learned when I visited their flight academy and got to see their dispatch office which has control over EVERY AA flight across the world. If you only knew what went behind a single flight, you wouldn't complain.
well, if there was another problem they should of told us, they said becuase of the weather at the airport. all it was doing was raining a little bit, no thunder , no anything else, but just rain
what airport did you fly out of? aircrafts have times at which they have to make their departure. During bad weather days, traffic slows down to which can cause delays... some aircrafts go out while some have to sit around and wait, to which changes the departure time (not the one on your ticket) there are time slots at which an aircraft has to depart, if it doesn't meet that time, it gets delayed. that's why intl flights HAVE to be on time or else they can't fly at all.
MD-80? it's funny, something if a passenger can avoid, stay away from MAJOR hub airports like Chicago or Dallas or JFK because they get delayed THE MOST. DFW gets shut down a lot due to weather related issues. If it was the MD-80 chances are you got delayed because of other causes that weren't named to you... like weight restrictions to which can cause headaches to dispatchers, which has a greater effect on bad WX days.
case closed... yeah, whenever I fly into the New York area, doesn't matter what airline I'm on, I get delayed for some unexplained reason. Chicago, yeah, one of the busiest airports in the country...
Oh really I worked the north slope Alaska two summers ago. Every two weeks I was traveling up there from the south..Not one single flight was on time..some were delayed up to 7 hours for maintenance..But I guess I would rather have a maintenance delay then have them fly it like they did in Los Angelas a few years back. Oh and the worst display I have ever seen from a flight attendant came from Alaska...I even reported her it was so bad.
Alaska flights tend to be late a little due to weather and maintenance issues. lol, I have a degree in Aviation safety from Embry Riddle, I had to study Flight 261 and what caused that. It was both a flaw with the McDonnell Douglas aircraft AND mainly the airline with cutbacks. But as horrible as the event was, it wasn't abnormal. American Airlines in 1979 had a DC-10 crash at ORD after maintenance flaws with the engine. United had issues also. Also AA has bad FA's also... it's common.
The whole Alaska Airlines maintenance/ops management team should have been imprisoned for that crash. There was NO delays due to weather, every one was maintenance related. No AA's aren't bad,,,they are awful.
I agree with the maintenance thing. That was something that could've and SHOULD HAVE been avoided. But the problem is fixed. FAs really depend on flights. I've flown on MANY different airlines and Alaska and Qantas had the best. AA was okay but United and US AIRWAYS was the worst. but it's by opinion:-)
I won't deny that, even though I've never flown on them, I've heard MANY times they're the best. The only "international" carrier I've flown on is Qantas between Sydney and LAX.
I fly on American and JetBlue often and while AA is more polished in terms of their operation (on time), I can see where you're coming from. AA has the rudest gate agents and FA's. Women wear their hair down, looking frumpy. Men emotionless. I'm not saying airlines should have an age requirement (I enjoy the youthful energy on JetBlue) but AA certainly doesn't care about your patronage during flight.
I work all over the world so I fly on quite a few carriers ever year. I find it shocking every time I get on AA and their total lack of customer service. People say they can't compete against companies like Singapore or Emirates because of money, but I say BS. Being friendly DOES NOT cost money. Unfortunately AA can't figure that out.
You're right, being friendly does NOT cost money, but I will say if you want to be known for customer service and provide a positive experience you have to hire the right people AND constantly train them. You can't expect a one-shot hiring interview to set the tone for your company's success indefinitely. Service training is a MUST. Something domestic U.S. airlines do not invest in any longer.
I agree with you that customer service is something American should focus more on. If you call them, the reps just say "American Airlines." Most don't bother to ask how they can help you. Some of their attendants are a bit on the rude side, but I've never seen any of them really that bad. In fact, some of them have been really nice. I've never gotten snubbed by one of them, but I did get snubbed by one bastard on Cathay Pacific (needless to say, I won the war that he started).
i absolutely love American, but i cannot agree with you more. The gate agents are extremely rude, as the flight attendants are sometimes(very rarely). alothough one thing i can fucking stand about american airlines is that they choose the ugliest fucking old fat chicks for flight attendants!!!

Just arrived in Tokyo two days ago...greata flight, great FA's, and a captain with a cool name...Arch Archer! (or that's what it sounded like!) I can't comment on AA out of JFK cuz I don't fly outta that airport. I can say though, that AA has always gotten me to where I need to go, safely and mostly on time. They also have a very user friendly frequent flier program. I never have trouble using my miles!

I don't care what my flight attendants look like, that is NOT their reason to be on that plane. I am happy that US airlines are not allowed to discriminate against their FA's, based on their age, race, religion, sexual preference. It's a sad commentary when you view people based on their looks. How truly shallow!

I am a ff of AA. I love em. I have no idea why they get poorly rated? I have flown Continental,NWA,United, all on international long haul flights. I have to say AA was the hands down best of all of them. Yep, we've been delayed at O'hare numerous times, but honestly, I don't wanna fly in a huge thunderstorm, ice storm, or blizzard. I can't fault AA for that. I want to say thanks to all the flight attendants I have met on my frequent flights to Narita, always professional and kind.

EXACTLY! I will be flying on AA 167 from JFK to Tokyo-Narita, my 3rd time flying on that flight, in September and also AA 168, my 2nd time on that flight. American's good. It might not be as good as some international airlines, but it sure beats Cathay Pacific in coach. I hate those damn flight attendants who think they're so great and got hired because they look good. I'd rather have frank American Airlines attendants serving me than those CX attendants.

And yes, the Narita attendants based at ORD are good too. I have flown on AA 154 too, but I like the ones based out of JFK just a tad more. Maybe it's because I'm a bit biased as a New Yorker, but their new terminal at JFK is really nice!

rain... there's more to the situation than you know... airlines just don't cancel flights JUST BECAUSE... that's one thing I learned when I visited their flight academy and got to see their dispatch office which has control over EVERY AA flight across the world. If you only knew what went behind a single flight, you wouldn't complain.

what airport did you fly out of? aircrafts have times at which they have to make their departure. During bad weather days, traffic slows down to which can cause delays... some aircrafts go out while some have to sit around and wait, to which changes the departure time (not the one on your ticket) there are time slots at which an aircraft has to depart, if it doesn't meet that time, it gets delayed. that's why intl flights HAVE to be on time or else they can't fly at all.

MD-80? it's funny, something if a passenger can avoid, stay away from MAJOR hub airports like Chicago or Dallas or JFK because they get delayed THE MOST. DFW gets shut down a lot due to weather related issues. If it was the MD-80 chances are you got delayed because of other causes that weren't named to you... like weight restrictions to which can cause headaches to dispatchers, which has a greater effect on bad WX days.

Oh really I worked the north slope Alaska two summers ago. Every two weeks I was traveling up there from the south..Not one single flight was on time..some were delayed up to 7 hours for maintenance..But I guess I would rather have a maintenance delay then have them fly it like they did in Los Angelas a few years back. Oh and the worst display I have ever seen from a flight attendant came from Alaska...I even reported her it was so bad.

Alaska flights tend to be late a little due to weather and maintenance issues. lol, I have a degree in Aviation safety from Embry Riddle, I had to study Flight 261 and what caused that. It was both a flaw with the McDonnell Douglas aircraft AND mainly the airline with cutbacks. But as horrible as the event was, it wasn't abnormal. American Airlines in 1979 had a DC-10 crash at ORD after maintenance flaws with the engine. United had issues also. Also AA has bad FA's also... it's common.

The whole Alaska Airlines maintenance/ops management team should have been imprisoned for that crash. There was NO delays due to weather, every one was maintenance related. No AA's aren't bad,,,they are awful.

I agree with the maintenance thing. That was something that could've and SHOULD HAVE been avoided. But the problem is fixed. FAs really depend on flights. I've flown on MANY different airlines and Alaska and Qantas had the best. AA was okay but United and US AIRWAYS was the worst. but it's by opinion:-)

I won't deny that, even though I've never flown on them, I've heard MANY times they're the best. The only "international" carrier I've flown on is Qantas between Sydney and LAX.

I fly on American and JetBlue often and while AA is more polished in terms of their operation (on time), I can see where you're coming from. AA has the rudest gate agents and FA's. Women wear their hair down, looking frumpy. Men emotionless. I'm not saying airlines should have an age requirement (I enjoy the youthful energy on JetBlue) but AA certainly doesn't care about your patronage during flight.

I work all over the world so I fly on quite a few carriers ever year. I find it shocking every time I get on AA and their total lack of customer service. People say they can't compete against companies like Singapore or Emirates because of money, but I say BS. Being friendly DOES NOT cost money. Unfortunately AA can't figure that out.

You're right, being friendly does NOT cost money, but I will say if you want to be known for customer service and provide a positive experience you have to hire the right people AND constantly train them. You can't expect a one-shot hiring interview to set the tone for your company's success indefinitely. Service training is a MUST. Something domestic U.S. airlines do not invest in any longer.

I agree with you that customer service is something American should focus more on. If you call them, the reps just say "American Airlines." Most don't bother to ask how they can help you. Some of their attendants are a bit on the rude side, but I've never seen any of them really that bad. In fact, some of them have been really nice. I've never gotten snubbed by one of them, but I did get snubbed by one bastard on Cathay Pacific (needless to say, I won the war that he started).

i absolutely love American, but i cannot agree with you more. The gate agents are extremely rude, as the flight attendants are sometimes(very rarely). alothough one thing i can fucking stand about american airlines is that they choose the ugliest fucking old fat chicks for flight attendants!!!
