@kptn6 that was the reason the latin racals started doin what they did....back then they had to splice everything...today you got mad programs to do it but none come close to this pair! pure genius!
@Aux1Dub Now, yesterday I asked AlbertCabrera from the LatinRascals if he can help to identifier.
He answered:
Hello, the beat is from Dominatrix on Streetwise records. The melody was played by me on a Casio Keyboard, with over dubs from face to face, soul sonic force and Hall and oats .. : )
@miller4th502nd wow great job on the keyboards man....i remember when i first heard the keyboards on the run dmc joint me and my dj buddies when nuts . Damn miss the 80s one love washing heights.
@Artistikfunk I'm right, AlbertCabrera from the Latin Rascals played that Melody on a Casio Keyboard. I sent him yesterday a question 'bout that, and he answers.:
Hello, the beat is from Dominatrix on Streetwise records. The melody was played by me on a Casio Keyboard, with over dubs from face to face, soul sonic force and Hall and oats .. : )
Thank you Latin Rascals! You've left behind one hell of a legacy. Amazing!
Luckily, I still have most of my tapes from these days. They were on almost every weekend on KTU but every 2nd or 3rd weekend at Kiss with Red Alert and Chuck Chillout doing the other nights. Hearing this makes me feel great!
Can't you hear the quality in everything from the dubbing, editing, mixing and even the sound quality and this was the early 80's son. No digital. I'm 45 years old and this is why I'm not impressed with where music has gone. Djs need to go back to work and stop being lazy. Period.
which LR's mix had the "here comes santa claus, san-san-san-san-santa claus" bit in? PLEEASE help, i'm sure it had the Addams family bit too but doesn't seem to be in the mixes I found with the Addams fam in there, I NEED RE-UNITING!!
Hi Groove Mix People - Someone can tell me what is the track at :3.02 "out of control" & 3.08 "and now..."??? cela fait trop longtemps que j'ai enregistré ce morceau sur K7, please give me the name of the DJ/crew/artist who sample this part of "ROCK-IT of Mr HERBIE HANCOCK" ?
Dam!!! When I listen to this I can't get any other mixes in my head, Am I fucked up? Please someone help me. Cause I know there are others like this for me:)
anyone can be a dj these days due to all this technology that allows you to loop, edit and mix. I bet none of these djs these days know how to make a record play backwards without using your hands to spin it or any button for the turntable to do it. WE HAD TO GET CREATIVE BACK THEN to keep up with all these mixes at parties and to outdo one another on the 1's and 2's and a mixer with only a fader.
I read some comments about The Latin Rascals having an MPC prototype? Dude...
Faux. Untrue. They had two Technics 1200's and a GLI mixer. And some really good talent at Analog edits on a reel-to-reel. My Youtube homepage explains this in greater detail.
Those great Latin Rascal mixes are a huge part of my 80's soundtrack.
They took editing (Big up's to El Coco aka Laurin Rinder & W. Michael Lewis ) to another level and opened doors for cats like Omar Santana and the late Jose "Chep" Nunez.
I'm so messed up right now i can hardly comment but id love to talk to anyone who can hook me up with all this and any like it from your minds Peace All Ken
Every summer while visiting my grandparents in New Jersey I listened religiously to the 92KTU Paco's Supermix and Kiss FM's mastermixes until I could hear them in my head without even listening to the radio. I owe all of Dynamix II's inspiration to The Latin Rascals, The Dynamic Duo, Omar Santana and of course the music of John Robie, Arthur Baker, Kraftwerk and Man Parish...
I'm originally from NC. I used to have my friends and relatives from NYC record Mastermixes from Kiss & BLS and send them to me by mail. Wow.. this brings back memories.. The Latin Rascals on 98point 7 KISS-FM!! I actually had this on cassette.. announcer mic breaks and all. Thanx for posting. F R E S H!!!
As far as busting up a beat like that - TLR mastered that shit. But listening to it now , I believe they were using an MPC prototype or something similar besides turntables.
Two people were asking what the track was playing over "Set It Off". See this is why Latin Rascals are legendary, as they were not playing just records & doing edits. The track in question is them playing a Casio CZ-101 keyboard live over the tracks. They did a similar thing over "Rock Box". Inspirational to say the least.
I be trying to tell people, TLR were the best I ever heard. I have a tape somewhere of when they opened up the KISS mastermix cuttin I'm The King from RUN-DMC, just acapella I'm The, I'm The King, uba, I'm, I'm The King over and over before the track started...I was always amazed "How did they do that!?!" I had started spinning after hearing "Sucker MCs" in August of '83 at a house jam and these cats became the guys I tried to be better than back then...but I only heard them that one time.
First people I heard sampling.. I have a few of their mixes on tape. I didnt understand sampling at the young age of 10 when they did this, but they were definitely ahead of their time.
Funny I thought I invented that when I started doing it...I had a jvc deck that had the perfect soft touch pause button. I cried when I dropped it in 90' at a house party. It lasted me 7 years. Never found another like it.
This is the Goodfather of all mixes, I remember this when I usto break/electo. This mix and the Big Apple Production #1 make me become a turntabilist with the MK2s years ago. Know I use the MK5s to inport into AUDICITY and take electofunk to a other dimention.
I have the cassette tape when this shit was origionally broadcast in 84 on 98.7!!!!! I listen to it now and then (Afraid of losing it) Now that someone posted in on you tube i'm saved!!!!!!! Thank you very much!!!!
Why did Tony fall in love with singing? Him and Albert should have stayed djs/producers and never thought about singing..although " arabian night" and " must be you " were big club songs. Just think, LR was responsible for TKA,Noel,Cover girls,Safire, Tina B
I think this one (and the rest of it) is their HOTTEST mix ever! And I'm still looking for a better sound quality, because I only got an AM recording taken by a friend in 1984. :( I live in Dresden, Germany, the former "Tal der Ahnungslosen". ;)
Let me just say my battered cassette says November 3, 1984. I recorded it on my Hitachi boombox after me and my boys ate a handful of 'red stars'. We were in every borough that night, all city. Tony & Albert reached critical acclaim and this was the absolute finest mix of their career. Again I am stating for the record that I was 16 when they made this and it inspired me to the point of being 41 on Youtube and did pretty well. BTW at 4:44 Jerry Young announces and says its 49 degrees.....
The Mix is over a half hour long. It was recorded here in Berlin/Germany at the local Radio-Station "RIAS 1" in 1984, the moderator said Summer in Manhattan.
But I think you're right, 49 degrees in summer makes no sense. ;)
Latin Rascals are the best!! Love this mix !! No one does it like this, and it's a shame.
