  • When Chuck Norris has nightmares, he sees Larry Bird.

  • larry bird would tear lebron james apart, not only basketball skills but larry bird would get so far in his head that lebron might quit the game. one of the best trash talkers, players, and basketball minds ever

  • Best guy ever

  • As a hawks fan we were the celtics bitch in the 80s. :(

  • I think it's impressive he didn't need a bunch of free throws to get to that point total, goddamn, he was on fire. I mean a lot of guys have put up huge point totals in a game but 99% of the time they're scoring is padded by 15-25 free throws.

  • Best SF ever if not the best player in general.

  • Larry Legend

  • MerkinMuffly, you have put together some GREAT stuff on youtube with the Celtics. Thanks you.

  • All this...with a Stache.

    Original G :)

  • simmons was right, the hawks bench is hilarious

  • damn im a teen and this gives me chills as if i was 50

  • I began watching basketball in 1963, am a devoted Tarheel fan. In my era the 2 best players were MJ and Larry. MJ had the most God given talent but Larry was maybe a bit better all around player. Both would be on my ALL TIME starting 5 along w/ Russell, Malone and Magic Via satellite I watched the Celtics play every game for 3 seasons, 84, 85 and 86. They won the Championship 2 of those years only losing to the Lakers. The highlight was being at the game where Bird hit 60! Unreal shooting!

  • 2:20 "Larry Bird is just unconscious."

  • i think larry and jimmer have similar shots except jimmer jumps more into his shot

  • I'm just imagining the Hawks coach with a billy club and a cigar in his mouth chasing around the entire Hawks lockerroom while rambling incoherently after the game.

  • @bim2x4 ur fuckin retarded first of all how many championships does Lebrun have how many awards does he have Larry bird but 1 thing Lebrun has is traveling

  • Bird turned this into a home game in New Orleans. He was just amazing. On a side note, I think he would be just fine in todays NBA.

  • I feel so privaleged to have watched this man play. He was my idol growing up.LEGEND.

  • lol look at the hawks bench they are just amazed

  • 5:14 ..... wtf?

  • Wet

  • Robert Horry is the best clutch shooter of all time!

  • best shooter in the nba ever

  • I love Larry but truth is that defenses were mediocre back then. Guys are stronger, faster, more athletic now and I doubt Bird would be great in today's nba.

  • @manaroker WRONG RETARD !!! Michael Cooper is twice the defender anyone is now and Bird lit him up countless of times. Dennis Rodman , same thing ! I could go on but I'm sure you wouldn't even know who the guys were ! No era could contain this guy PERIOD

  • @manaroker That is the conventional thinking but Bird was always playing guys who were stronger, faster, more athletic and he torched them. Sorry, but Bird would be great in any era.

  • Who cares LeBron is better than this daisy duke-wearin queer

  • Favorite player of all time

  • 4:13 sorry

  • I had that same reaction as the dude on the hawks bench at 4:15

  • If this is great..........what was Kobe's 81 points? In 42 minutes!!

  • @pfunk42

Far different....these guys were actually playing defense on Bird.

  • Just an incredible player. And intelligent about the fundamentals of the game......not so common anymore.

  • Just give Bird the ball and GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY!!!!

    BANG BANG BANG

  • He cant miss, even if he tried, he cant miss!

  • Doc Rivers still has nightmares about this game. Scott Hastings got abused so bad he had to go into the federal witness protection program after this game. Larry, DJ, McHale and the Chief were tough to deal with for any team but this game Bird was unreal.

  • I think in the 80's the nba use to come to the lakefront arena on a regular basis , not sure y tho

  • Check out 5:14 and the guy giving a high five to another man's bicep!!!!

  • I hate when people try to compare bird to dirk , there is no comparison ..

  • larry looks like a high schooler amongst 5th graders. players look like children trying to guard him.

  • Why was this game played in New Orleans?

  • sick shit right there

  • The shot at 3:03 is one of my favorites of all-time. What an awesome shot.

  • Great video, man. Thanks for sharing.

  • Larry Bird took a little trip to Wurzburg West Germany in September of 1977. Dirk Nowitzki was born in Wurzburg West Germany in June of 1978,no wonder why Dirk Nowitzki is such a great shooter...As Johnny Most would say BANG!!!!

  • He was calling half of his shots and trash talking the Hawks the whole game.....that's the only time you'll ever see an arena full of southerners cheering for a team from Massachusetts, lol.

  • @Thelookoutslookout lol This comment is funny.

  • and they call jerry west Mr Clutch LOL

  • The funny thing is, Bird didn't get the MVP of the game!!! I believe Robert Parrish got the MVP of the game?? Go figure???

  • Hey NBA you are loosing these moments. Wake up..u make millions to play a game.

  • now i know who dirk nowitzti got his talent

  • Those that are saying its due to bad defence.....Hawks bench at 3:06...............says it all! Once he got warmed up, The man was unstoppable.

  • Larry Bird is the greatest Small forward to ever play the game of basketball.

  • This how Larry looks when I use him in NBA 2K12 lol. That game is great....

  • @melodic218 it's because this is when basketball didn't have as much competition, everyone was friends it was just a game to them not about money or girls or anything but just playing basketball.

  • The funniest thing about this whole thing was the Atlanta Hawks bench :) Just watch em.

  • 1978-1979 season the Boston Celtics finish the regular season 23-59..The 1979-1980 season Bird's rookie season the Boston Celtics finish the regular season 61-21 WITHOUT McHale and Parrish on that team..Bird turned the Celtics around..

  • 6:07 i think i've seen the future Mavs coach who won this year championship

  • jordan is nothing, in 87 NBA changed and gave any tikytak foul on faceup players, back in real NBA pre 87 u had to bring ti to hoop, and jordan didnt foul outa each game in 1st q from hsi reach ins nonstop and hacking, NBA changed rules and so jordan did well, celtics didn't get jordan clone in 86 len bias due to cocaine wow they would reeled off 86-92+

  • ledgend 3pts

  • Thumbs up for notch at 4:16 !

  • This is the worst defense I have ever seen on GREAT PLAYER! Find #33! Double team him...... Deny him the ball! .....Foul him...... Cut his right off!!!! Shoot him!!!! Fuck'em up Biiiiiiiiird!!!!!!!!! Best Clutch shooter I've seen.

  • @EliteSports217 You couldn't double or triple team Bird because unlike today's And One street-ball players, Bird could pass the ball and pick you apart if he was doubled.

Deny him the ball, lol, are you watching the video? What do you think Dominique is trying to do at 3:36? You can't deny better than that, unfortunately for Dominique, Bird is the greatest of all time at Moving without the Ball.

  • @MerkinMuffly did you even read what I said!!!!?????!!!!

"Cut his right off!!!! Shoot him!!!! Fuck'em up Biiiiiiiiird!!!!!!!!! Best Clutch shooter I've seen".

    Damn stop the riff!!!!!!!

  • @EliteSports217 Bird would would rather you double team him. passing is his thing. if you double team you get beat by 40. 123-80 something.....

  • @EliteSports217 so youve never seen MJ or Kobe. you must be white because you would have to be completly bias to black athletes and clearly not just a sports fan to make a statement like that. and to add he was always on a great team. do your fucking research. Kobe alone has made more clutch shots than Bird. i LOVE basketball period , not just curtain players so i have my facts down. best clutch player youve seen. what the fuck have you been looking at.

  • @jiac1125 Hey idiot!!!!!!!! Race doesn't matter!!!!! and Clutch doesn't mean Game Winners! Bird gives to the charity I work for! MJ and KB I haven't seen them write a check. So fuck YOU, MIKE and KOBE! Black that pussy!

  • @EliteSports217 youre awfully upset. i didnt mean to push your buttons. if i offended you i do apologize because it s clear your lack of intelligence wont allow you to make a compelling argument. i will not continue to entertain ignorance when thats clearly what you embrace and support.

  • @EliteSports217 Hmm.. Your post demands the use of excessive physical violence when faced with a difficult situation, so I can only assume you must be of African ancestry..

  • bench of atlanta reaction:

    3:03

    4:01

    4:12

    5:05 hahaha

  • You know where they said the three hit was out he was inside so he could had 64 pts now cause if Refs had seen replay it would had counted when fouled

  • Such a shame Bird is a bit forgotten these days. Nowadays with Nowitzki being the flavor of the month, people would've been head over heels if Bird was playing now.

Bird is as arguably on the same level or better as a shooter.

Has good ball handling skills, ridiculous court vision, great passing skills, and the heart and will to win like no other. Before this year Dirk was seen as soft. Nobody would dare say that about Bird.

No disrespect to Dirk, just saying how good Bird was.

  • Oh? Bird droppings in Atlanta

  • bench at 4:12 and 5:00 tells everything about Larry. It's humiliation!

  • Comment removed

  • LOOK AT THE HAWKS BENCH THE WHOLE VIDEO, THEY CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE IT ....

  • simmons

  • The first shot shown, the 3-pointer where the two Hawks jump off the bench, was waved off for the foul. Instead of a 4 point play and 62 pts, Bird hit the 2 FTs and wound up with 60.

  • This was awesome to watch! What a performance by one of the NBA's all-time best! Thanks for sharing.

  • SIMMONS

  • I think its great that the Hawks bench is cheering Bird on. Watch them everytime he hits a tough shot.

  • larry bird looks like his name

  • Im glad larry didnt dribble it out at the end. He had to go for the even 60. It was the easiest shot of the game :)

  • Funny thing about this game, is that Bird nearly didn't play in it. Bird & Wedman use to run road races during the season. The day before this game, Bird ran a 5 mile road race on asphalt, a surface which he hadn't run a race on for awhile. The morning of the game Bird's legs were sore & his hammies were seizing up. He limped through the shootaround & asked KC to let him rest this game. He ended up coming to the game early to run laps to loosen up. Though his H strings seized up, he still played

  • @MerkinMuffly:

I believe you. That's all Bird used to do is play hurt. It's a miracle that he played all those years.

  • @MerkinMuffly yes that's correct.. i have read that also at larry's autobiography.

  • SIMMONS!

  • and that shot at about 4:11 is ridiculous

  • Thank you Mr. Simmons.

  • @dt3k Yes. Thanks Sportsguy!

  • john sterling....?

  • @Gamer92493

Yes it is, the John Sterling of the Yankees.

  • SIMMONS!!!

  • simmons

  • thank god for bill simmons otherwise i would have never witnessed greatness

  • One word....... BEAST

  • bill simmons. why are so awesome

  • yeah and kobe is a ball hog too. bird didnt have very much talent, he was just smarter than everyone else, and had a photographic memory, he knew where everyone was at all times! does kobe know that?.. NO!

  • Grantland

  • SIMMONS YOU GLORIOUS MOTHERFUCKER

  • Simmons!!!

  • Simmons!!!!

  • Either way. I was just making the comment that it's not like he was just hoggin the ball and chucking up a ton of shots that didn't go in. I didn't bother Googling the stats since I knew the shooting pct was way up there, especially considering he made a lot of those shots from the perimeter.

  • Kobe did shoot something like 55% for the game against the Raptors. Granted, the Raptors were awful, but still, the game was close for almost the entire time.

  • Bird taking that last shot to get 60 when the game was already decided was selfish and bushleague. Can you imagine what Bill Simmons would have written about Kobe had he done that? Oh wait a minute, the idiot Bill Simmons criticized Kobe for doing the classy thing in his 62 pt game by not entering the 4th quarter with the game pretty much decided. Will the Kobe hate ever end............Go figure

  • @rfbf5 Yeah I agree, Simmons would've definitely criticized Kobe or anyone for that matter who did that, but especially Kobe. This was not very classy by Bird. I think there's a romanticism with the past wherein people claim players were classier and better, but I honestly think Bird would not be nearly as good in today's NBA where the skill level and athleticism have both gone up.

  • @heyyy19 You think Kobe is CLASSY?! Watch this: watch?v=pgkN0-bLrus. Kobe is a Dirty Piece of Shit. Skill Level (aka FUNDAMENTALS) sucks today & the athletes of the 80s are as good, if not better than today's, don't believe me? Take 11 time champ coach Phil Jackson's word for it, Phil said Dennis Rodman is the best athlete he ever coached, Notice he didn't say Kobe(LMFAO). Wilt could bench over 500 lbs in his mid 40s D. Howard's MAX bench is 345 so don't give me this better athlete/skill shit.

  • @heyyy19 i totaly agree

  • @rfbf5 His teammates threw him the ball, is that selfish? Bird's teammates (& the Hawks bench) were genuinely pumped up and excited by Bird's shooting exhibition, if you watch Kobe's 81 game, you notice his teammates on the bench don't give a shit, and are probably thinking, "I can't believe this motherfucker is taking 46 shots, that's some crazy shit" Bird's teammates dished to him because they knew he was going to do the same for them if they were hot, like he did for McHale a week before.

  • simmons

  • simmons

  • Anyone who thinks Kobe was as good of a shooter as Bird knows nothing about basketball. Those two players are noncomparable. Different era, different games, different players.

  • @bjorks You're absolutely correct! Bird isn't even in Kobe's league. Forget the offensive exploits.......Kobe is a first team All-Defensive player 9x................How many All-Defensive teams were Bird on? Huh? I can't hear you

  • @rfbf5 He's voted on that list by dumb ball-lickers like you. all D. teams are an OPINION, not FACT. Here are the FACTS why Bird is a better Defender than Kobe. Bird=1.73 steals pg, 24th A-time, Kobe =1.5 spg, 36th, Bird avg more blocks pg than Kobe. Bird is ranked 28th all time in Defensive Win Shares, Kobe= 53rd, Bird is ranked 84th all time in Defensive Rating, Kobe i= 241st in d win shares. I base my OPINIONS on FACTS, you base yours OPINIONS on OPINIONS. Opinions are like ASSHOLES =YOU

  • My favorite part is the Hawks bench even goes nuts when he hits that 3!!!

  • simmons

  • @chrisxc DOOOORRRRRRRKKKKKKKKKK!

  • Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a game...boom! wtf does that have to do with anything? Kobe is not the shooter Bird was. The announcer just told you Bird passes too much because he's a freaking team player. All the NBA is now is a clear out league for each team's "superstar". The current NBA is a joke. Ask Reggie Miller how good Bird is.

  • the league can be great again

    1. reduce the shot clock to 20 sec

    2. relax what can be called a foul - it should be a physical game, not stopping the clock every 30 seconds for a "foul" however flopping becomes a technical foul

    3. Contract the league - there are at least 5 franchises that do not need to exist - concentrate the talent

    4. have NBC broadcast the network games - they were the best - the theme music, the on air personalities. ABC/ESPN stinks

    5. Cut the regular season in half

  • LMFAO @ Tree Rollins and the other cat at the end of the bench OPENLY cheering for Larry to hit that shot. Tree leans into homeboy as the shot went up as if to say, "watch watch watch I bet he hits that shit"...then BOOM! They just go apeshit when he drains it. AWESOME moment!

  • Just think.......as great as this appeared at the time, Kobe scored more than this (62) in 3 quarters! Outscoring the entire team..........I won't even mention the 81 point game

  • @pfunk42 Good, I won't mention Kobe scored his 81 against the 2nd to Last ranked defensive team in the NBA, the shitty Raptors, and wasn't guarded by a Hall of Famer. Bird also didn't take 46 shots attempts like ya boy Kobes he only took 36 shot attempts or he would have hit 81.

  • @MerkinMuffly also kobe's 81 is filled with freethrows and some dunks. this 60 by bird and pistol pete's 68 vs the knicks are both better then kobe's 81 game...

  • @sneak108 Let's see, Kobe had 1 dunk that whole game in the 1st half and 1 dunk in the 2nd half for a grand total of 2 dunks the entire 81 pt game. Bird shot 16 freethrows in his game and Kobe took 20 freethrows in the 81 pt game. In Kobe's 65 point game he only took 12 freethrows. So what the hell are you talking about? The dumbing down of America ladies and gentleman...........this movement is being led by Bill Simmons

  • @rfbf5 You poor insecure Kobetard Fuck, are you that insecure that you have to troll LB videos and post your man-love for Choke-Me Bryant. Are you such a sad sack of shit that you are afraid someone might post a video on youtube that doesn't mention Kobetard's 81 pts? Are you actually trying to say Kobe is a better SHOOTER than Bird, with his shitty fg%, ft% ,3pt% & pathetic game-winning-shot % of 31.3% and 79 misses? Y don't you go post on an MJ video how Kobe is a better scorer U dumb bastard.

  • @rfbf5 Your not very bright if you don't think Bird is a great defender: watch?v=Z7Ixy8Uttq0. Bird leads Kobe in every major defensive statistical category, blocks per game, steals per game, defensive rating, defensive win shares, etc. obviously a bunch of idiots choose the all defensive team, Kobe is clearly undeserving. The same idiots say he is a great clutch shooter, despite his woeful 31% & 36 of 115 attempt shooting with the game on the line. Wade & T. Allen - better defenders at the SG.

  • @MerkinMuffly Bird's 60 can't compare to Kobe's 81 pt game........nothing can except maybe Kobe's 62 pts in 3 quarter, Pfunk is right! Bird actually played more minutes (43) in the 60 point game than Kobe did (42) in the 81 pt game. If Kobe had played more minutes he could have broken Chamberlain's record! Incidentally Kobe and Bird shot nearly identical % Kobe(.609) and Bird(.611) Given Kobe scored +60 5x to Birds 1 add in Kobe's 5 rings to Birds 3 and Larry isn't even in Kobe's league.

  • @rfbf5 LMAO, Kobe wasn't even the best player on his own team on his 1st 3 rings, Shaq was MVP for all 3, there was no doubt Bird was the best on his team EVERY year. If Bird had played the fucking NJ Nets, the Iversonsixers and Pacers in the finals, I imagine he would have won 7 rings, but Bird had to face Magic and Kareem, 2 of arguably the TOP 5 players in the HISTORY of the NBA on the SAME team. Imagine how fing hard that is, much tougher than facing Miller, Kidd and Me, Myself & Iverson.

  • @MerkinMuffly yeah what most people dont realize is the lakers were actually losing for most of that game. they needed kobe to go off, the whole reason kobe went off for 81 is because he didnt have anyone to pass to. no matter what kobe does he always has haters, its absurd. kobe will be joining larry in the hall of fame very soon

  • @MerkinMuffly How where they "shitty" when they were third in the east? Are you comparing Birds 60 to Kobes 81??

  • @MerkinMuffly KOBE is TRASH

  • @MerkinMuffly And at the time he scored 81 points, they were ranked last defensively. I guess they went on a defensive "surge" the rest of the season to improve to second worst.

  • @pfunk42 and yet, you just DID mention the 81 points. Moron.

  • Simmons

  • Rick Riley

  • "Like a rusty steak knife cutting through a well-aged steak"

  • Simmons!!!

  • SIMMONS!

  • Simmons

  • Simmons.

  • Simmons.

  • simmons

  • SIMMONS

  • Dominique Wilkins is as good an athlete as anyone who plays today. Worthy was a damn good player too. This wasnt the 50s with chain smoking 6'2 white guys at small forard... and on Lebron, Bird simply needed no space to shoot, none

  • @TGNam1 Yeah, Bird dominated Rodman, who Phil Jackson (11 rings) calls the greatest athlete he ever coached. Notice he didn't mention Kobe.

  • @TGNam1 Most of today's players lack the fundamentals and teamplay of their predecessors. Athleticism is nothing without skill, finesse, and teamwork. I find it silly when folks throw the "soft" label around on skilled, finesse, and team oriented players like Gasol and Nowitzki. The two mentioned are just as skilled and team oriented as their 80's counterparts. Kobe's really good too, but often a ball-hog, which Jordan himself popularized.

  • @Francozilla you said it best. I think fans don't understand what that means. All they see today are statistics and rings. It wasn't what Bird was about. He was a special player.

  • SIMMONS

  • Bill Jabaar Simmons

  • SIMMMOOOONSSSSS!!!!!!!! LARRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY!!!!! KKAAAAAAHHHHHHN!!!!!!!

  • Thanks Simmons!!!

  • Simmons.

  • at 4:11 look at the bench on hawks and on 5:05 hahahahah great feel thats nba

  • at 4:11 look at the bench on hawks

  • at 4:12 look at the atlanta bench xD

  • Who's this play by play guy? Di he run off and started the Cult of the Bird after this. Talk about pole-jocking.

But seriously, this is one of my favorite videos on YouTube, and that three that didn't count is probably my all time favorite 3. It's hilarious how wet Bird was that night, and that Atlanta bench proves it.

  • Thank GOD this man couldn't really dunk majorly! Because if he started doing that with what he already had, he would have been too good for the NBA period! It's bad enough he went many games looking like a God on the court.

  • It's like he defied the laws of probability and physics....EVERY time he hit the court. wow.

  • Play-by-play announcer is John Sterling before he was really annoying. Now... Yankees win... thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhe... Yankees win.

  • @simplygu He only gets worse with age...

  • @simplygu Worse.....Islander Goal! Islander Goal!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @simplygu Good info!! The 2 announcers here said Bird's name 200 times i think :)

  • 5:05 it was a clear foul..even the atlanta bench got chills....

  • The Hawks' bench reactions are the best part of this video.

  • The best white basketballer ever. Period.

  • @smoothiekid147 Larry Bird isn't white, he's clear. lmao

  • why was this game played in new orleans?

  • Comment removed

  • the hawks bench is fucking classic

  • why are they playing in the University of New Orleans' gym????

  • Larry Bird shot just .270% ,.212%, .286% and .247% in his 2nd through 5th NBA seasons in 3's. Bird ended up winning 3 three point contests despite the fact that he had a crooked finger on his shooting hand and a very bad back.Bird ended up shooting .376 in 3 point field goals for his NBA career and a .496 overall shooting % in his 13 year NBA career. his career ft% was .886 ...
