I fell in love with Neil and his music when I was 12, rising 13. I still know why. This was such a good song. He is still a class act, you only have to listen to his version of Midnight Train to Georgia to know that.
Yes,Thank heaven for Youtube - I only wish that we had it years ago because, I didn't realize how gorgeous this man was back then until I started watching him on here, he has got to be the most handsome man ever. I am so excited that I will be seeing ND the the first time on 28th June, its about time too, just hope that the seats arnt too far back on the block, think I'l take my binoculars ha ha....yipee.
@kenziexxpodders I can't wait until his US dates are posted! Then, I'll hope to get tickets to see him in New York unless he comes to the one horse town I am currently living in. Have fuuuuuuuun!
@kenziexxpodders Snap! I am seeing Neil for the first time also on 28th June... and I cannot wait! It seems we have both come to appreciate him in the later years of his career. I kind of missed him in the 70's as I was more into bands then and he was a bit out on his own as a solo performer. So many years wasted but im trying to make up for them now. I hope he has many more years of performing ahead and that this will not be his last tour. 127 days and counting..
@cherrylm2 Rat!. I just read that one of Neil's show's was canceled in New Zealand because of the 6.3 quake, I suspect. I heard about the quake and thought...oh, now. He come's to NZ and BAM! No news from him though, saw that he was in Australia this weekend. I hope everyone is ok in NZ!!
@cherrylm2 Wasted years I agree, a time machine would come in handy, anyone got a tardis ?, I wonder how many women feel the same way as us, bet there are quite a few. I cringe now when I think of the pop stars I followed then, David Cassidy, was really in love with him and David Essex came a close second, if only we knew him better back then .
@ReinaAntilles You are not the only one. I have to have my daily fix of this gorgeous person and I too love this particular song. May he go on singing for many years to come.
@cherrylm2 My 34,001st visit! :-) They need to put this BBC performance on DVD, so we can watch it every day from end to end! Now, I see why my mom was such a fan. Didn't know what I was missing as a kid. I remember mom coming up to me saying, "Ooooh, I love his song Plaaaaaaaay Me." I was wondering what was wrong with her! Now I know. He was/is beautiful! Thank heaven for YouTube.
@ReinaAntilles I have found this BBC performance on a DVD called Neil Diamond - Diamonds from the Vault. The first half is this 1971 concert and the second half is a 2001 concert. It is not the entire performance as modern day version of love isn't on it but 7 more songs are there. Got it from Amazon Uk. Thought you may be interested!
@cherrylm2 Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! Thanks for the tip Cherry! It's a great price at £8.95 too. Too bad that I don't see it being sold at Amazon US. I must have this. I'll worry about if I can run a European DVD on my player later. Thanks again for the tip. So do you have your Neil Diamond countdown ticker running yet. How many days until you get to see him live??? I hope that you and Kenzie can meet up before the show.
@ReinaAntilles You are not the only one. I have to have my daily fix of this gorgeous man and I too love this particular song as I dont think its that well known, I kind of feel priviledged to be listening to it. May he go on singing for many years to come.
@ReinaAntilles You are not the only one. I have to have my daily fix of this gorgeous man and I too love this particular song as I dont think its that well known, I kind of feel priviledged to be listening to it. May he go on singing for many years to come.
@cherrylm2. Yep , I'm still watching thses golden classics of Neil when ever I can. He is definitely my guilty pleasure too. He's on TV here on 13th Nov, its a programme that was aired on radio last Saturday-The Electric Proms, can't wait to watch it. Is there any hope for the likes of us ? Ha Ha
A one of a kind performer. Neil has a set of vocal cords that were second to none. His control and putting so many different emotions into it just shows what a gifted natural individual he is. If you want to hear something unusual for Neil, listen to him singing "Kol Nidre" in the Jazz Singer. This haunting tune is sung during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism. Another great singer, Steve Lawrence sings "Where can I go", which is up here. The images and song will blow you away!
I have everything neil has ever recorded and this is so special, lyrically and vocally he is without doubt the most gifted singer/songwriter, few can hold a candle to him. a god given talent and gift to us all.
@kenziexxpodders Im with you. I am totally addicted to this man and have to look at and listen to him everyday. Its getting scary. Never appreccciated him when I was younger but now I know what I was missing! This song in particular is so haunting.
@cherrylm2 Yes I know, it is scary, 'its his eyes, voice everything . I didn,t know how good looking he was back then, but loved listening to the "Hot August Night" LP, wish we'd had youtube back then-wouldn't that have been something !
@kenziexxpodders Have you found the I am...I said posted by andres288? Same early seventies hair, another red shirt. You will love it. Looks like he has just got out of bed after a rough and tumble but I think that just adds something to it. Just gorgeous.
@cherrylm2 yes I've watched it all over and over again. Once I get on here-I cant get off, time just goes by and I'm in another world, What a treat for my eyes though. !
@kenziexxpodders Is your ND early videos addiction still going strong ? He has been on TV here a bit lately and looking and sounding good. The oldie videos are still my guilty pleasure though! Can never get enough of them and Modern Day Version of Love is still definately one of the best.
@cherrylm2 i first heard him when i was 14 singing solitary man, im 54 now , love all that he sings... saw him in DC bout 5 yrs ago for the first time,,,,, he still has it, that show was amazing,,so many songs to say what is my fave, but think its
Neil had just been through a bitter divorce with Jay and had not yet sorted through it all yet when he wrote this. He wouldn't marry his 2nd wife Marsha until soon after.
Rich Wiseman's "Solitary Star" (out of print, 1986) sheds some light on this... Involving people out for his life, hiding, his move from NY to LA. etc. A must read for any fan, or even occasional fan..
such a loveley song ...wish more people would listen to this and comment ..because its truly a heart felt song of what he was feeling at the time ... but trying to read between the lines I'M finding it difficult to really understand what it means.... considering he was married at the time ...................any interpretatations..please comment...
i think if i had to choose between 3 people i wanted to see in concert , it would be elvis, neil. and tom jones.....though ive seen neil one time and it was awesome,,and ive been to countless rock concerts..... there are only a few that tears at your heart and soul thru their music
One of my favorites (and a staple of my own live repertoire) for the last 35 years or so; people always ask me where I got that beautiful song - they're very surprised to find out it's one of Neil's more obscure cuts. Given the dynamic range, I always had the feeling it was written with Jay and the Americans in mind (as was "Sunday and Me"), that they passed on it and Neil made it his own. Great performance - I always thought Neil sounded his best with minimal instrumentation...
I like this version better than the original. Neil had such a haunting voice in his prime, giving so much of his soul when he performed. Thx for posting...
My sweet prince neil, my love for you will never fade, your a beautiful man who writes from his heart and soul, a modern day version of love will always remain my life song. cant wait to see you in june. happy 67th birthday for the 24th jan. ND Forever
i love fasztzoe she is an angel with no wings that picks me up when i am down .. she is an amazing friend and i love her as much as she loves neil .... love ya angel
