  • what's the song at 0:14 ?

  • @bast489 sounds like Superman Lovers - Starlight

  • Sounds more like Mahavishnu Orchestra than Jimmy around 0:30

  • I want one

  • Shure sound's like Jimy! The actual sound rending is poor, but the playing is very good, just in the required feeling.

  • hah hendrix riff sounds amazing!

  • Very nice!

  • love it, how much would one of these cost nowadays?

i play a similar style but just one a keyboard, nothing like the real thing.

  • @muzikmasteruk you may consider buying a Korg SV-1... as a keyboard player, the "pure" fender could be too limited. the korg can also be used to control MIDI instruments, so you have all the possibilities. And as it doesn't have any display or disturbing crap it looks very old-schoolish... I got mine a month ago and LOVE IT :D

  • @grafikschwarzmarkt that keyboard (sv-1)sucks. A pure fender rhodes is good for every style of music, rock, blues, jazz, funk/soul. The organ on the SV-1 is not real and you need a Leslie to get legit organ sounds anyway. None of the sounds are that accurate; you can sample all the little noises of the mechanical parts but the fact remains that there aren't really vibrating tines, strings, etc in there making the sound. If that dude got a rhodes he would probably love it.

  • @muzikmasteruk you could a giggable one for 600 dollars

  • @hotlanta71 i knew i got a good deal on mine but i didnt know how good .. i got mine for 400 .. in perfect working condition with all the hardware and everthing ..

  • @muzikmasteruk btw: search for «KORG Sv1 vs Fender Rhodes» there's a GREAT comparsion vid fender vs. korg :-) you can totally control the mechanical noises on the korg so you can set it up as YOU like!

  • Fuck Yah !!!!!!!!

  • sick

  • and the wind.... cries.... mary

  • song?

  • you're all douchebags - there's a bit of hiss but the piano sounds bloody awesome

  • ha no vsti can replace that sound

  • @scrawfrd02

Scarbee Rhodes 20 velocity sampleset for kontakt is pretty damn brillliant at it.

Any vsti trying to emulate it though will suck. Although Loungelizard is great for suitcase like sounds.

  • what are you using at o,12 ?chorus?unison?

  • was the intro deal frou frou?

  • @cameroooon89 Frou Frou? How so? i dont recognize any tune from frou frou in the beginning..

  • @graypaint woops, I meant Zero 7's "in the waiting line"

  • @cameroooon89 dude that's exactly what i thought too.... sounded so much like it the first time i freaked out hahah

  • Great jammin... To bad the sound is not stereo... :(

  • so I have a friend at work who has a 70's rhodes. She just got it. She asked me to help her find an amp. what do you use? are you using an overdrive pedal? I here a stomp box clicking.

  • @ddavis510 if she has the cash i know that Fender Twin's work great with keyboards and guitar!

  • EXTREMELY Bitchin' Man!!! Rock On!!!

  • i love 0:54 - 1:11 :) ... damn it, how do you learn this kind of stuff..

  • sounds like Mofro

  • it sound like "the wind cries mary" by hendrix :p Good job ;)

  • wow

  • fucking awesome!

  • Zero7 chords at the beginning ?

  • @PaowZ i think so too!

  • jimi hendrix!

  • what amp did you used

  • Comment removed

  • mahavishnu?

  • sounds, like Miles Beyond to me at one point, if that's what you're thinking of

  • I had one of those in the 80's on a long-term loan. I think it was the same; a Rhodes 73 suitcase model. I wish I still had it... nice big curved top to perch my Moog Rogue on, lol.

  • wow

  • Was the beginning 'In the Waiting line' by Zero 7?

  • yes

  • know any more Zero 7 type of bands with this kind of keyboards?

  • @paytrip Air also uses Fender Rhodes piano's! check out their La Femme d'argent live video on youtube!

  • And the wind... whispers... Mary...

  • i remember the older fender rhodes from the early 70'--- the tops of the ivory keys were curved. i bought a fender rhodes 73 later. it has been played too hard but they did include a repair kit. it has not been played since 1991

  • Chorus?

  • Michael Jackson tribute on Fender Rhodes - check it out on my site, thanks!

  • could they have made the input jack more inconvenient?

  • i was thinkin the same thing haha

  • the input jack isn't really in the way when you play, besides you always can use an angled cable

  • @clerkfiesta It's not bad if you use a right angle plug. Plenty is the time when I didn't have such a cable though! In retrospect, it's probably better than having the output jack facing the audience where it is not protected by the case and tends to get broken.

  • The beginning sounded like the intro from knocking on heavens' door...

  • wind cries mary, hendrix ;)

  • I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob! :D

  • Tell uncle Dennis I said "hi".

    thanks

  • what are you using aside from the rhodes?

  • I wish I had one of those.

  • How long does it take to learn how to play piano or fender rhodes? I have a new obsession! I want one!!

  • very soulful playing on that sweet Rhodes!

  • I might have stirred up a rhodes from a fried's dad. It needs work but I gonna get it for less than $100.

  • :39 to :49 sounds like "The Wind Cries Mary"

  • Cause that's what it is

  • Nice!! :D

  • I WANNA RHODES PIANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I had an 88 key rhodes back in the 80's.

What a gas to play. A real pain to haul around though.

  • all music's track need rhodes...

  • I find myself keep coming back to this clip...The best is the variety in the short thoughts of music here...At :33 seconds it sounds like "Your time is gonna' come" by the mighty Zep...Can Uncle Dennis play some more of that please?

  • i definitly need a rhodes!!!

    how much do they cost?

  • a lot. but that rare oppurtunity may come up for a cheep one. My school obtained a free one, a Rhodes MK1 suitcase 73. A very very nice piano, has a loud punch with the speaker under it. Wood keys, but the corus doesnt work :(

  • You should buy a guitar chorus pedal and add it to the speaker, at a used music store you can get one for 20-50. It won't be the same at all as the original chorus but could still sound cool. Or get a leslie simulator pedal will get closer but those are more expensive and I doubt you care as much since it is the school's piano and not yours. Still cool stuff though.

  • It doesn't have a chorus

  • thats nice!

  • your playing is amazing, i absolutly LOVE the rhodes it gives out the greatest sound and you put it to good use, nice playing man

  • sounds great,love that sound 5*****s

  • Sounds a bit like that, but it's not. Anyway, great sound. I absolutely love the FRs. The best sounding keyboard ever.

  • is that mahavishnu orchestra??

  • I was thinking the same thing, but I don't think it is.

  • Finally!! Someone playing the REAL thing!

  • dude, shut up

  • that's some pretty good playing man :)

  • I thnk yours could use a tune up, but I am no expert, I'm only basing it on what I've heard from the the other Rhodes' on here that were just set up/adjusted....There is a great video on here that shows you how to do it....check it out if you get a chance.

  • I think he has a chorus on it so it sounds out of tune.

  • Was that first little tune by Massive Attack?

  • Maybe Zero 7 : in a waiting line

  • Ah, yea thats the one i thinking of. Thanks

  • I think the Rhodes itself has been modified like the ones used on those West coast studio sessions

  • search for ARP 2600

  • Is that a Leslie Speaker in use with it???

  • OMG!!! that was Fat! What a sound! Lovely chorus feature also.

  • Dude you are dope keep up the good work you should write some originals.

  • hmmm the lovely sounds of bitnoise ;)

  • This is by far one of the best made instruments ever. A Genuine Classic!

  • is it dyno? it hits so damn hard :( i like it more mellower

  • Ok does a rhodes generally come with that chorus-effect pedal that I just heard there?

  • No, that's an external effect.

  • Likely a Phase 90 or an Electro Harmonix Small Stone.

  • I think it's a phase

  • Have you got the part ?

This sound is just amazing :)

  • nice

  • Used to have a Mk 1, but had to sell it. Wish I hadn't now!

  • damn nice phase shifter or tremolo what is it?

  • Yes, that's Zero 7 and Jimi

  • What makes a rhodes piano different than a regular piano?

  • Several things. A normal piano is not electric, the Rhodes is electric. It is somewhat comparable to an electric guitar with many many strings + pickups.

  • Except that the Rhodes has metal bars (inside) rather than strings, of course . . .

  • that is zero 7 hes playing, right?

  • Great sounding piano. Unbeaten today although I reckon Nord gets close.

  • wow first time hearing it solo

  • great sound

  • YEAH ! =)

  • The Wind Cries Mary!

  • Uncle Dennis...You rock!!!

  • man fuck yeah thats awesome

  • Most beautious. I just wish you had additional Rhodes video loaded on here. Heck, I wish you could play my 73 suitcase to just hear it to it's potential. Thanks again for the awesome clip.

  • What a fucking sound! A Rhodes sound like this is like a girl who's b-jobbing you while you're driving on a coastal road!

  • That's not the simile that would have come to my mind, but I kinda like it . . . Completely irresponsible, of course, oral sex on a coastal road, but I guess that's what makes it exhilirating . . .

  • A 76 or 88,a great sound. I used a 76(keys)student model in my band in the 70's and it had that great sound. (Ray Charles loved them) but...tuning (spring on rod) was a chore but I didn't mind.

  • pretty sweet tbh

  • some very nice voicings there =)

  • By the way, the chorus made it sound much more Walter Carlos than Stevie or Herbie, man!

  • I also like the clean sound better.

  • Definitely, the clean sound!

  • And the wind cries mary...

    nice

  • bad-ass.

  • I also own one.

    But this sounds great.

  • never mix that shitty effect with a pure rhodes.

that was the saddest sound ive ever heard.

clean is the way to go.

  • Yeah it's only me, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea etc etc that have ever used a Boss Chorus pedal with a Rhodes. Get your ears cleaned out sometime soon son. Tit.

  • That was glorious to watch. And the video was nice too. ;)

  • Own'd!

  • you are absolutly right. what the hell has he done?

  • Yeah, fair point.

It's a decent enough effect but I think if you have an authentic Rhodes you should keep it clean.

    Nice playing though!

  • nice sound

  • yeah i'm debating between the wurly and the rhodes. i'm torn between the two. i love the distinct sound the wurly makes when it's played hard, but i also love the rhodes' smooth sound as well.

  • you seem to own or have played on a rhodes. the harder you hit the keys, do you start to get a rougher/more overdriven sound produced from the instrument?

  • Yes, I have owned 5 or six different ones over the years. A good one has 'bark & bells' and yes the harder you hit them the more bark/ distortion you get. Are you thinking about buying one? This one is for sale on eBay UK at the moment and bemonged to my gilfriend's Uncle Dennis
