@muzikmasteruk you may consider buying a Korg SV-1... as a keyboard player, the "pure" fender could be too limited. the korg can also be used to control MIDI instruments, so you have all the possibilities. And as it doesn't have any display or disturbing crap it looks very old-schoolish... I got mine a month ago and LOVE IT :D
@grafikschwarzmarkt that keyboard (sv-1)sucks. A pure fender rhodes is good for every style of music, rock, blues, jazz, funk/soul. The organ on the SV-1 is not real and you need a Leslie to get legit organ sounds anyway. None of the sounds are that accurate; you can sample all the little noises of the mechanical parts but the fact remains that there aren't really vibrating tines, strings, etc in there making the sound. If that dude got a rhodes he would probably love it.
@hotlanta71 u shouldn't judge an instrument you don't own. in my opinion, the SV-1 is a very well made digital version of old rhodes pianos. there is SO many ways to customize the sound that you might get near to perfection. i tried it on mine and am VERY happy about it!!
@hotlanta71 i knew i got a good deal on mine but i didnt know how good .. i got mine for 400 .. in perfect working condition with all the hardware and everthing ..
@muzikmasteruk btw: search for «KORG Sv1 vs Fender Rhodes» there's a GREAT comparsion vid fender vs. korg :-) you can totally control the mechanical noises on the korg so you can set it up as YOU like!
so I have a friend at work who has a 70's rhodes. She just got it. She asked me to help her find an amp. what do you use? are you using an overdrive pedal? I here a stomp box clicking.
I had one of those in the 80's on a long-term loan. I think it was the same; a Rhodes 73 suitcase model. I wish I still had it... nice big curved top to perch my Moog Rogue on, lol.
i remember the older fender rhodes from the early 70'--- the tops of the ivory keys were curved. i bought a fender rhodes 73 later. it has been played too hard but they did include a repair kit. it has not been played since 1991
@clerkfiesta It's not bad if you use a right angle plug. Plenty is the time when I didn't have such a cable though! In retrospect, it's probably better than having the output jack facing the audience where it is not protected by the case and tends to get broken.
I find myself keep coming back to this clip...The best is the variety in the short thoughts of music here...At :33 seconds it sounds like "Your time is gonna' come" by the mighty Zep...Can Uncle Dennis play some more of that please?
a lot. but that rare oppurtunity may come up for a cheep one. My school obtained a free one, a Rhodes MK1 suitcase 73. A very very nice piano, has a loud punch with the speaker under it. Wood keys, but the corus doesnt work :(
You should buy a guitar chorus pedal and add it to the speaker, at a used music store you can get one for 20-50. It won't be the same at all as the original chorus but could still sound cool. Or get a leslie simulator pedal will get closer but those are more expensive and I doubt you care as much since it is the school's piano and not yours. Still cool stuff though.
I thnk yours could use a tune up, but I am no expert, I'm only basing it on what I've heard from the the other Rhodes' on here that were just set up/adjusted....There is a great video on here that shows you how to do it....check it out if you get a chance.
Several things. A normal piano is not electric, the Rhodes is electric. It is somewhat comparable to an electric guitar with many many strings + pickups.
Most beautious. I just wish you had additional Rhodes video loaded on here. Heck, I wish you could play my 73 suitcase to just hear it to it's potential. Thanks again for the awesome clip.
That's not the simile that would have come to my mind, but I kinda like it . . . Completely irresponsible, of course, oral sex on a coastal road, but I guess that's what makes it exhilirating . . .
A 76 or 88,a great sound. I used a 76(keys)student model in my band in the 70's and it had that great sound. (Ray Charles loved them) but...tuning (spring on rod) was a chore but I didn't mind.
