Um, Conan didn't get booted. He CHOSE to leave on his own. NBC gave him an option to have TTS at 12:05 and he rejected it (which I don't blame him at all for doing since it was a stupid thing for NBC to even propose). So all your arguments about how/why Conan got booted are meaningless, because he was not. He had a choice, he made the choice to walk.
One more thing, poops1 - You keep arguing how Conan was booted because of bad ratings. Yet he was offered a 12:05 spot after Leno, which meant they were willing to still keep him aboard. (even though I think it was a very poor move on NBC's part and I don't blame Conan for refusing it). NBC didn't fire Conan, he made the decision to walk away. His being allowed to do so had nothing to do with his ratings.

And after the Oprah interview, I have a difficult time understanding how ANYONE could possibly believe that Leno is just a victim in all this. He may not have dropped the axe on Conan, but he didn't exactly do anything to stop it either.

nielsens are important because its what advertisers use to judge viewing audience. just because tons of people watch conan online means nothing(since most sites are illegal anyway), because it doesn't generate the ad revenue that watching it on broadcast television does. thats why leno dominated at the tonight show, he thoroughly whooped letterman n left everyone else in the dust, so theyre bringing him back. conan equaled the first time in history the tonight show lost money...
while jay kept the tonight show number one for the last several years, even while nbc was the last-place network(so the lead in argument doesnt hold water. if it did, then letterman should've have been #1 for years, being at the #1 primetime network). and when the leno show started, conan had already been losing to letterman for 3 months... i liked conan, but he obviously just couldn't take care of business, and jay could...

and no argument against the point about affiliates, that's common knowledge. but that doesn't act as the reason for conan's ratings being horrible, because his viewership stayed constant for the four months jay was on the air. constant in that he remained a distant number 2 behind dave... and if a show is great, people will watch, regardless of the network(ie. jay's tonight show on 4th placed nbc)..... your argument is weak and actually shows lack of faith in conan's ability...

Okay. I never said that Hulu ads dont count, in fact I said the opposite. Everytime you see "a commercial break" on Hulu, it gives them ad revenue. Yes I know Conan didnt have the best ratings ever but 1. he started in the summer, which is a horrible time to start a show. 2. Leno had bad ratings for the first 3 years he was on TTS before his famous interview with Hugh Grant bumped him up and 3. Like I said, a lot of people watch online, which affects ratings. but to dwell on your hulu focus, maybe you should check out a list of the most popular shows on hulu... conan is not too high on the list...
btw, you're incorrectly characterizing jay's rise over dave. jay stayed competitive with dave for those 3 yrs, and continually saw an annual rise in audience until he finally took over...
on the other hand, in the few months conan took over. he started with a win for only one week, and dave has continually been building a larger and larger lead over conan for the entire run(save the last weeks where everyone was focused on the late night scandal, but even then letterman still won over conan).

Exactly- I saw on a tvguide poll that 69% of people wont watch him anymore because of what he did, only 12% of people yes because Ive watched him before and the remaining percent was between "I never did" and "it depends". And if you want to talk about Jays staff- what about the fact that they had 5 years to find another job? Or that Jay didnt pay the writers during the writers strike but Conan, Letterman, etc did? Leno doesnt care for his staff as much as he lets on. Its a weak argument.

You're saying it makes more financial sense to put Leno back on at 11:35, despite that his primetime show was tanking? Ok... sure. While Jay may have had excellent ratings when he was on Tonight, don't you think the way this was all handled is gonna hurt his viewership? A lot of people are bothered by him now, his reputation is already semi-soiled. And it's not just from "crazy Coco fans" either... it's a general consensus.

1. Eubanks is jumping ship- not a good sign. 2. They are supposedly filling up the audience with staff members- they know how this is affecting Lenos appeal. 3. Their 'damage control' is NOT helping viewers like him. I didnt even mind Leno that much until the Oprah interview which was

you obviously don't understand demographics that well. just because someone dominates at one time slot, does not mean they would do as well in another, ESPECIALLY when you're talking about removing them from a block of programming(primetime, latenight, etc) and putting them in another...
it's funny how people like you keep hating on someone who was successful in order to "defend" someone who couldn't keep TTS #1... no point arguing, let's just see how it pans out... :)

Too bad that a lot of people watched it online, which doesnt affect Nielsen ratings one way or the other. The Nielsen system is a very flawed, out-dated system. Yet they continue using it for some reason. Not to mention Leno was his lead-in and lead-ins are an important thing in late night TV.

nielsens are important because its what advertisers use to judge viewing audience. just because tons of people watch conan online means nothing(since most sites are illegal anyway), because it doesn't generate the ad revenue that watching it on broadcast television does. thats why leno dominated at the tonight show, he thoroughly whooped letterman n left everyone else in the dust, so theyre bringing him back. conan equaled the first time in history the tonight show lost money...

while jay kept the tonight show number one for the last several years, even while nbc was the last-place network(so the lead in argument doesnt hold water. if it did, then letterman should've have been #1 for years, being at the #1 primetime network). and when the leno show started, conan had already been losing to letterman for 3 months... i liked conan, but he obviously just couldn't take care of business, and jay could...

So thats why I said its outdated. And regardless of who had what ratings during their time on TTS, Jays ratings were the ones that were so bad that affiliates wanted to cancel his show, not Conans.

if you think the ad generated from tv shows online in any compares to the ad revenue from broadcast tv, i suggest you read up on some advertising journals and news sites. it's not outdated. and again, hulu makes money from more views for a show, not the show itself(at least not until the next contract is made with the show). and jay's ratings had nothing to do with conan plummeting in late night. refer back to my point about jay leading for the last ten years on last-placed NBC.

and no argument against the point about affiliates, that's common knowledge. but that doesn't act as the reason for conan's ratings being horrible, because his viewership stayed constant for the four months jay was on the air. constant in that he remained a distant number 2 behind dave... and if a show is great, people will watch, regardless of the network(ie. jay's tonight show on 4th placed nbc)..... your argument is weak and actually shows lack of faith in conan's ability...

Okay. I never said that Hulu ads dont count, in fact I said the opposite. Everytime you see "a commercial break" on Hulu, it gives them ad revenue. Yes I know Conan didnt have the best ratings ever but 1. he started in the summer, which is a horrible time to start a show. 2. Leno had bad ratings for the first 3 years he was on TTS before his famous interview with Hugh Grant bumped him up and 3. Like I said, a lot of people watch online, which affects ratings. Im not going to argue anymore about

i see that you didn't get my point about comparing the ad revenues between broadcast networks to ad revenues from tv streaming websites..
but to dwell on your hulu focus, maybe you should check out a list of the most popular shows on hulu... conan is not too high on the list...
btw, you're incorrectly characterizing jay's rise over dave. jay stayed competitive with dave for those 3 yrs, and continually saw an annual rise in audience until he finally took over...

on the other hand, in the few months conan took over. he started with a win for only one week, and dave has continually been building a larger and larger lead over conan for the entire run(save the last weeks where everyone was focused on the late night scandal, but even then letterman still won over conan).

i'm not blowing off your points, friend, just simply refuting them by stating facts(regarding the simple financial sense it made to get rid of conan and get leno back, in regards to ad revenue n profits generated by the tonight show under leno). and while you think you have a point about people watching online, do you really think millions of people a day are watching entire episodes of jay or conan online on a daily basis?? i refer you back to the most popular shows on hulu... not the case :)
