  • sometimes i forget my own humble begginings that i began quiting music from nasheeds or other forms of music and entertainment A LOT until slowly Allah showed me a place even BETTER where i can find peace and productivity and pleasure in my religion. The Quran

  • I look to music to explain the quran to me but i never looked at the Quran to explain the Quran for me. after all this though I cant help but mention, even though i believe its haram, i cant go around repeating that music is haram, rather that i slowly encourage them to listen to beneficial words of dhikr like nasheeds and just like islam is, step by step allah will guide them (as i do my part as well) to get closer and closer to the Quran.

  • Just what I needed.I constantly am asking for guidance and im confused what the straight path is, whats right and whats wrong even though it feels so good. wallahi ive always felt in my fitra that this is wrong but i havent felt more confident in it that now after all the stories, daleels (evidences), and encouragement and that this religion is the truth. I looked to music to find peace in my religion and i didnt look to the religion itself.

  • MASHAALLAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amazingg inshaaAllah i'll leave it!!

  • This beautiful has the most beautiful voice.

  • Salam,

I want to thank Kamal el-Mekki because he saved my marriage

I am Egyptian, married with an Egyptian , we have 2 daughters, living in US Chicago

I tried all that I could to tell my wife that music is haram but nothing work, she always argue with me that it is not haram

I asked to take time and listen to this video, she did and the result was an amazing miracle, she quit listening to music and she went further, she is now telling people that music is haram

  • @passenger617 Mash'Allah.

  • I know I'd probably be laughing to (out of nervousness(?)) if I was where this lecture took place when he started questioning us to song lyrics, but right here I'm kind of dissapointed..

  • Best lecture on why music is haram.

  • stories of unable to say 'la ila ha illallah' while death are scary.

  • Wow. After listening to this, I had an oral exam and the question was "do you like music?"

  • Garden tools! Hahaha

  • asalam mualaikum....this is really helpful, i will stop slowly

  • this was one of the videos that made me stop :)

  • When I was a kid in the 1980's we listened to classical music in music class, now the kids are learning the lyrics to hip hop and pop songs from music class and at school!! I never would have imagined listening to Madonna or Run DMC in music class as a child.

  • I used to listen to music, but afterwards I would always have a very bad feeling and this was when I was a non-Muslim. I still listened to music after I took my shahadah, but in my heart I knew it was wrong. I do not listen to music at home, in the car or even on tv. However I notice that music is every where when you go to the grocery store, gas station doctors office. Also they are now making the kids listen to hip hop and pop music at school!!!

  • so tell me what do you think about Jesus? and the apostles? And why don't you try and listen to the Christians we all believe in the same God.

  • @bangjiwoo There are many videos on this channel that discuss this topic.

  • @khalifahklothing the tone the person use in the video just makes me feels a little hypnotic.. so could you just answer the question?

  • @bangjiwoo ...k? Watch this video: Jesus: A Prophet of Islam - By Siraj Wahhaj

  • Salam, can i share this?

Always ask yourself, Listen to Allah`s (S.W.T.) words or a singer.

The hard part for me was telling people I don`t listen to music.

  • wats the website?

  • Masha'allah may Allah (s.w.t) reward and guide us to the straight path, the path the he has favoured.

  • mashallah very well spoken ive sent this to my friends hope this affects people so that they may benefit from this beautiful lecture

  • Dought that, Duff is a instrument which is always permissiable. The prophet allowed a lot people to play it and surely he wouldn't let anyone permit that if it's haram. There is a hadith based on two people playing the duff in unneeded situation, abu bakkar stoped them but our prophet said let them. Brother is Going too Extrime here..!!

  • yusuf islam needs to listen to this

i dont know what is wrong with him after years of stopping music and agreeing its haram he is back to singing and playing the guitar:S

he was in melbourne this week, it made me very sad

  • @GuiltyOfBeingMuslim Yes me too I was quite upset I had to turn the news off so my children wouldn't see it and I'd have to explain why a muslim was singing and playing musical instruments.

My teacher said and I've heard it said many times that music is "the quran of shaytan" asgfurallah.

  • music is a weapon to braind rain and wash the muslims and theyre succeeding sadly

  • What is it Islam what dot com?? tell me please??

  • @EmbracetheSunnah - islamqa.com :)

  • how about anasheed for kids, without musical instruments?

  • Please leave worldly music, lend your ear to zikrullah and nasheed. Insyallah, your heart will bow to Allah and shield from satan..

  • @fatima80231 Salamu3alaykum sister, if u havn't then plz listn to this lecture from beginn 2 nd. and ther wer more than jst a few good pnts. i got out of it the full hrs worth of pnts. and to kinda answer ur qstn, ur right it dosn't say that it is haram in the quran, bt it is talkd bout negtivly. the only typ of instrument that ws actully said halal was the drum, so that would mean everything else would be haram. n all the shuyukh, like of the 4 madhebs and other scholars say that it is haram.

  • omx15 try chatislam brother or sister

  • good stuff brother. Jazakallahukhayr.

  • this is the very best lecture i have EVER heard about music in my life may Allah swt bless this sheikh and give him more knowledge and opportunities to share this knowledge with us...

i have been going on and off with music my best advice to stay away from it is to simply stop yourself each time you come to play it yourself just stop yourself...find something else to do...a shower, salah, anything...you just have to be convinced and this lecture should be convincing enough inshAllah....<3

  • inshAllah we'll all replace music from our ipods with Quran recitations

    Salaam!

quranicaudio . com really helps =)

  • Mashallah

  • jazakAllah khair

  • i quit music by first deleting all my music from ipod, mp3 everything. so i feel like music theres is none. then i started reading LOT'S of quran

  • Continued...

    1. Always have Allah (SWT) on your mind, remember He is watching you.

    2. Remember you have been graced with the presence of 2 Angel's who record your every action, which will be presented to you on the Day of Judgement - Do you want it for or against you?

    3. Last but not least remember this Dunya is just an illusion, and death could come at any moment, and prayed to Allah (SWT) to help you in this weakness. Jazak Allah Khaira

  • Salam

Jazak Allah Khaira to Brother Kamal & this thought provoking lecture. I recommend that you occupy your time with something other than music, try listening to islamic talks, or even the Al-Quran (Be cautions not to talk to others, etc, while doing so though as this would disrespecting Allah (SWT). It's all to do with Ihklas (Sincerity) and Intention - do it for the sake of Allah, to please Him and to draw closer to Him & Inshallah, you shall be successful. Jazak Allahu khaira

  • Muslims are aware that nothing has been prohibited by Allah except that which is harmful to the welfare of a Muslim individual and the society as a whole. The divine attribute behind the prohibition of music can be comprehended by looking into the diverse influence music can have.

  • Its not hard to stop listening to music,..because there are many alternatives..I used to listen to English and Arabic music...and I quit it ..long time ago..if you replace it with Quran and nasheed..you`ll feel the difference..its peaceful

  • Salam Alaikum

at 29:50 what is the website called that he says is the greatest?

    JAK

  • If you want to stop listening to music, get your brother/sister to go on your computer and delete all your audio files from your computer.

I just deleted all my music as I can't be bothered to listen to it. It doesn't help me in anyway and it;s boring

  • as salaamu alaykum i am a african american . i grew up listening to music

there is a ayat in the quran that talks about idle talk and the sahabi said thisayat talks about music

the prphet [saw] said there will come a time when the people will consider fornication the wearing of silk for men and music as halal [ although it is haram ]

everyone will be tested. all the people. do you say you believe and think you will tested like those before you.

some tests money power sex music dancing etc

  • what about nasheed??is it haram too??

  • hahaha at 9:30 ..'freestyle'

    Mashallah great talk

  • I've always been critical against certain types of music - music containing inappropriate content (sexual suggestions, cursing, objectifying women etc) - so various kinds of pop, rock and hiphop.

So I just stuck to some filtered song types of rock/classical.

Eventually I realized that music just instills false emotions in your mind, making you have feelings that aren't there in the first place.

There's also the annoying factor where a certain song will just repeat itself in your head...

  • Barak Allahu feek for putting this up.

  • Masha-Allah

  • Jazakum ALLAHU KHAIRA for the upload...

  • this is Really the nicest speaker mashallah, bring the things in a logical way!

  • Advice to everyone if you want to stop with listening music; I've know stopped listening music approximately 5months or more. It went with ease. Because I started to listen Quran in stead of it. No music on my ipod just quran and lectures. If you try to leave something for the sake of Allah, then Allah will give you something (much) better in the place. Seek knowledge, boost iman by frequently visiting the mosque, learn many about the prophet and keep up the prayer of course.

  • if u want to quit listening music pray five times a day and know ur prayer what u are saying . and be with people who dont listen to music. ask Allah to make u away from it . I have experianced myself and it was this attachment to my prayer which stoppetd me its hard even though I am surounded by it. so make Duaa to Allah that to take u awy from haram thing and sins .Ameen.

  • I'm a professional musician, I make a living out of making music. yet I call myself a Muslim. May Allah guide me and many others to the right path. Amin ya Robbal aalamiin.

  • theres people who sing music with lyrics stating religious things...are these too harem?

  • Mashallah, he's a wonderful speaker, this lecture was held at City College and Alhamdulilah the turn out was remarkable-many of the attendees were affected Alhamdullilah- may Allah swt accept the efforts of Sheikh Kamal El Mekki

  • Wat is the greatest website?

  • I heard this yesterday!

    It is wonderful mashallah

  • This is by far the hardest thing for me, I love hearing music, it makes me instantly change my mood. I feel like a crack addict trying to quit.

  • u're not alone usrabella..i feel the same way too. It is very very very difficult to stop. May Allah guide us in the right path and strengthen our iman

  • Ameen ... =]

  • me too usrabella

  • i usedto listen too a lot but alhumdullilah if u leave it for Allahs sake it becomes very easy.i found listening to Nasheeds a v good substitute.listen to Ahmed bukhatir, abu ali to name a few.May Allah guide us all to the straight path.

  • We dont speak about our sins, because this is the way shaytan spreads evil.See what is the reaction to ur comment. Allah is gonna make u accountable for encouragin other people to do haram and ur duahs wont be answered. Be careful.

  • I had same problem, but now Alhamdullilah it is gone, I absolutely hate it.

  • Whether or not music is Haram, I've always wondered why this is the concentration of all Islamic talks lately. This should not be the concentration, brothers and sisters. Get the prayers done first and all the required things that keep us Muslim (myself included) before we even go over this topic. Do you pray 5 times a day ON TIME by the minute(I'm talking first and formost, to myself as well)? Well if not, then do that first. Pay that Zakat & fast and really try to change.

  • pcsxdc, many of them are not making salah because they are too busy listening to music and watching music videos. the matters are related.

  • +1.......

  • this is is the concentration of all Islamic talks lately. because it distracts and takes one away from the more important stuff ie. Prayer, Zakat , etc.

Once we remove this distraction, inshallah one can perform his/her duties in a way pleasing to Allah

  • Agree but I think basic such as salat which has been discussed many times we all know a person who doesnt pray he non believer until the next salah. There are alot of lectures about it. I never heard a lecture on music specially this great. But it is always a good reminder so thank you brother.

  • Music is a great distraction and can lead someone away from praying salah on time. This point by itself is enough to answer your question pcsxdc.

But if it's not enough, let me ask you this. If you're in school and struggling with one course, do you stop learning everything else for the entire week/month/year, or do you still study for all courses and put a little extra work where it's needed? If you would work hard 4 good marks, why not work hard to please Allah?

    Food for though inshAllah =)

  • I fully agree that the more critical issues should be addressed firstly and foremostly. But should this stop Shaykhs from addressing some of the most dangerous pitfalls of the youth such as music or sex?

  • U r absolutely right........!!!!

  • @pcsxdc that is because it are these things which are the cause of missing prayer.

when people stop doing these things ,they would less miss the prayer and pray on time.

  • @pcsxdc yes i agree with Pua8 too. even though we perform prayer 5 times a day, the music or the entertainment at large always distract us from the correct path. We cannot leave a blind eye to this problem and that is why it is the concentration of Islamic talk lately.

  • @pcsxdc As alaamu Alaikum "We Hear and Obey" Follow ALL the commandments of Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (SAAW) to the best of your ability; Not as you feel like. The problem of music is bad and must be talked about. Wa Salaamu Alaikum.

  • Assalamalykum brothers/sisters

How do I give up music for good? How did you all give up music? any good advice??

  • salams,

maybe u should listen to the recitation of the quran by a qari u like (where he recites with a gud melodious voice), evertime u feel the urge to listen 2 music.

No1 said its easy, but this sorta helps :)

  • Update! Alhumdillah i have been able to give up majority of music. Unless whatever is played around me Jazakllah Khair for advise.

  • yes it should help b/c everytime u have the Quran on and then want to listen to music just think " do i wanna turn off the Speech of Allah for the whispers of shaytaan"

  • Mostly it has to do with enviornment if u are surrounded by people who listen to it u will become like them. to avoid listening to music change ur environment friends. Pray 5 daily prayers and get attached to it u will Inshaallah leave it. it is because we want to feel the hipe. it is very hard but if u truly want to leave it Allah will help u.InshaAllah.

  • i first transitioned to nasheeds, and then eventually onto the Quran alhamdulillah

  • Bismillah

I like the title. "The End of Music". May Allah make me live to see that day insha Allah. Masha Allah, brother kamal al mekki is a good speaker. May Allah preserve him insha Allah.

Jazak Allahu khaira for the up load ya akhi.

  • I agree 100% with you SBDstroyer.

  • Assalama Alaykum wa Rahmat Allahi wa Barakatu.

Masha-Allah, I love this speaker's logic. This is the first time I've listened to him. He makes so many great points. Jazakum Allahu Khair for posting.

  • mashAllah.

    jazzakAllahu khair

  • mashallah this lecture is the best alhamdolillah

  • As it was once said: Music is the reed of sheytan. If you open your eyes and look at all this "music industry" today you'll see that Prophet (s.a.w.s.) and his Sahaba were right absolutely right.

  • i use to deny this until i realized how nice the quran sounded. there's some nice qaris out there, you don't need music. but btw is daff the only halal instrument?

    wasalam

  • mashaAllah brother I have been looking for an answer regarding music being haram or halal for the longest time and im very much appreciative towards this video.JazakAllah and may Allah soobhana wa talla bless us who truly believe in him inshaAllah.Aslaamu laikum,Khuda hafis.

  • Comment removed

  • JazakAllah Khayran sheikh El Mekki

may Allah swt reward you, i pray that this message of truth and wisdom spreads to the entire ummah as there is a myriad of misconceptions regarding music and whether it is halal or haram.

  • Bismillah...

Jazak Allahu khaira for uploading this. I have been anticipating and waiting patiently for the full lecture on this topic by Kamal el-Mekki. May Allah subhanahu wa'ta3ala soften the hearts of those that wish to be nearer to him and ease their struggles...ameen

  • salam

can woman not hear male voice?

even if they sing nasheed or quran?

  • wa'alaykum aslaaam

    yes she can

  • JazakaAllah khair for sharing this video with us, very inspiring. Another excellent video to add to your repertoire! MashaAllah! May you be blessed with the best in dunya and akhira. Ameen.

  • I agree with ALL of ou. I mean it is natural. Its just natural for us Muslims when we know what characteristics Allah S.W.T has, it will come natural to us. I mean eversince i repent, i never even listen to my eminem, method man or wtv slipknots songs which i used to have. Its like i hate em so much. For the sake of purity bruvas and sisters..We all know that Allah S.W.T sees every little thing and knows every bit of our intention..Subhanallah.. Guys, we're uslim, we shd know better that that..

  • Jazakallah khair for uploading. I am one of these muslims that know deep down that music is haram...I am trying to avoid music right now

  • May Allah make it easy for you, ameen

Just fill up your computer or mp3 player with Quran, Lectures and few music-free nasheeds, insha'Allah

  • i know how you feel. What I did was delete ALL music from your computer, threw my CD's away and gave away my DVD's. Try to get rid of temptation, I think self control is really tough for people, its been tough for me! But alhumdullillah Allah makes it easy for us, when we turn to Him. And inshaAllah think of the hereafter and the fear of Allah when you feel tempted to watch TV and listen to music.

InshaAllah may Allah make it easy for you.

  • You still have not given me any evidence from the Quran. I agree that the music of Shatan is haram. We hear it everywhere we go. My point is there are alot of Nasheeds that are not in anyway from Shaytan and are actually praising ALLAH.

  • Sister I gave the Quran verses and tafsir of the salaf, up above

If the song contains musical instruments (no matter the content)then it is actually just music and nothing else. You don't use haraam to call to Allah and His Deen, you use halal methods and techniques.

For example let's say you went to gamble in Las Vegas, and have won thousands of dollars, can you go now and give this money in Zakah? No you cannot

    BarakAllahu Feek

  • Whatever. You have not given me any ayats from the Quran to prove your point. And DO NOT compare gambling in Las Vegas to the music of Sami Yusuf or Zain Bhiki or Yusuf Islam. These are good believing people and actually their music has helped bring people to Islam. This lecture may have some good points on listening to secular music but there are no ayats from the Quran and you go around that everytime Iask you for proof, and it is also one brothers opinion.

  • Musical Intruments are haraam, like I said the content does not matter. It could be about Allah, but if it has musical instruments then it is haraam.

The Quran ayats and the countless ahadeeth are there for you to read and reflect upon sister, insha'Allah may Allah give you the tawfiq to leave musical instruments, ameen

    Wa'alaykum Asalaam wa Rahmatullah

  • Even drums...?

  • yes

  • whats the difference between duff and a drum?

  • the duff is like a tambourine without the rattles. it is struck with the open hand or fingertips, but doesn't have the same range (nor sound) as percussion drums. The duff was specifically made permissable for women, but some people go overboard and use it to make any type of drum halal. JZK wasalam

  • a one sided duff is allowed on three ocassions on wedding, when a traveller is coming ,i forgot the third.

  • @3ashikatulshahada: there is no difference. there both musical instruments

  • did u know that Sami Yusuf has a 'halaal' version of one of his album. And that still had instruments in the background. So he had 2 of the same albums, one that says 'halaal version'. So Sami Yusuf knows he's doing haraam, I don't like judging but that just seems a bit off. Not saying he's a bad muslim either, like i said, i aint no judge but i used to listen to him but when he did that i stopped listening to him completely. And other reasons to, which i wont go into detail.

  • Khalifahklothing, jazakallahu khairan for your comments w/proofs. Fatima, sami yusuf and zain bhika etc are saying great words, i ask you what is the use/benefit of the tunes? if the words are good enough to move one, to be moved by merely the tunes would be pointless...the sahabah were the best of ppl, and if they said the quran's mention of idle talks includes music, why do we think we are experts? What authority do we have to say its permissable after that??? listen to it, but dont justify it.

  • Allah swt will give victory to Islam and people will come to the truth eventually. People will come to Islam through righteous ppl and also through non righteous ppl. This doesnt prove that Sami Yusuf's music is halaal or haram.

And it would be better if non-musilms come to Islam by the miracle of Quran or concept of Tawheed etc rather than listening to melodious tunes.

    And Allah knows best.

  • @fatima80231 Salamu3alaykum sister, if u haven't then please listen to this lecture from begining to end. and there were more than just a few good points. i got out of it the full hours worth of points. and to linda answer ur question, ur right it doesn't say that it is haram in the quran, ...

  • @fatima80231 Salamu3alaykum sister, if u haven't then please listen to this lecture from begining to end. and there were more than just a few good points. i got out of it the full hours worth of points. and to linda answer ur question, ur right it doesn't say that it is haram in the quran, ...

  • @fatima80231

    Peace be on to you.

I used to hear music, and it's pretty noticeable that it gets you away from worshiping Allah, Ask people who used to hear music and they will say the same.

It's no surprise that music is something that warms the heart and stuff, Allah created it like that, but it has more evil than good.

"But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not. " From Ch2 V216

  • @AceSe3don Salaam alaykum, Yes I agree that SOME music in fact quite a bit of it, is what you said in your comment. But my comment was in regard to Islamic music and nasheeds. There is alot of it out there. I gave a few people as examples in my comment. Your response is the same as the others you go around the actual subject of Islamic music and yes it does exist, it is growing and more people are listening. It is a form of worship so I will continue to listen, Alhamdulila.

  • @fatima80231 Among my ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments (Narrated by al-Bukhaari taleeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91).

  • you we are not talking about nasheeds!! we are taljing about musical instruments (guitars, tromphets and these things) i used to be like you, denying the evidence... because i like music so much... i wanted to be musician! but GOD comes first! may He guide you

  • JazakALLAH khairan !! is it ok if i post this on my facebook ??

  • Yes, that is fine

  • jazak Allah khair, great reminder for us all!

  • Beautiful, great message. (allah knows best)

  • What about Islamic music such as Sami Yusuf, Zain Bhiki or Yusuf Islam? I think as far as music goes I agree that alot of the secular music is wrong for us as Muslims to listen to, but Islamic music praising ALLAH is very beautiful. I do not think you can say ALL MUSIC is WRONG.

  • if it contains musical instruments, it doesn't matter what the song content is, it's still haraam

  • I dont have the time to listen to the whole lecture akhi, but if you can be kind enough to tell me if the beloved brother comes to a conclusion that ALL singing is haram included nasheeds? Massalam brother

  • What if the music has no instruments and its islamic rap.

(rap just another way of poetry)

    jazak allah

  • then alhamdulilah

  • Just Listen to the Quran.

  • What exactly does the Quran say about music?

  • Listen to lecture, it cites the evidences from Quran, Sunnah and presents arguments based as well on logic and even personal experience

  • Give m the sura and the ayat where it says music is haram. If it really is in there you should have no trouble telling me where to find it. You can not just say it is in the Quran. WHERE is it?

  • Sure sister, no problem insha'Allah I was just saying that if you listened to the lecture you would find more than one evidence, but khair insha'Allah, here are the verses (also keep in mind that we take from both Quran and Sunnah):

  • Allaah says in Soorat Luqmaan (interpretation of the meaning):

"And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allaah..." [Luqmaan 31:6]

The scholar of the ummah, Ibn 'Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: this means singing. Mujaahid (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: this means playing the drum (tabl). (Tafseer al-Tabari, 21/40).

  • Al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: this aayah was revealed concerning singing and musical instruments (lit. woodwind instruments). (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 3/451).

  • Al-Sa'di (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: this includes all manner of haraam speech, all idle talk and falsehood, and all nonsense that encourages kufr and disobedience; the words of those who say things to refute the truth and argue in support of falsehood to defeat the truth; and backbiting, slander, lies, insults and curses; the singing and musical instruments of the Shaytaan; and musical instruments which are of no spiritual or worldly benefit. (Tafseer al-Sa'di, 6/150)

  • And the reason sister, why I put the tafsir is because in reality everyone can just make their own interpretation of Allah SWT's words,

to fit their desires, wishes, ideology, etc. But it was the Sahaba of Rasullulahi Sallahu Alayhi wa Salaam that were actually there when the Quran was being revealed stage by stage, and it is to them and the pious generations after that we turn to for our understanding of of Quran and Sunnah, and in every aspect of our deen.

    BarakAllahu Feek

  • yes there is a ayat from quran, the idle talk verse

    and there is hadith too

  • may Allah open the heart of every Muslim who listens and may Allah give them the tawfiq to quit listening to the Quran of the Shaytan: Music.

    Ameen

  • INSHAALLAH , Ameen, Allahumma , Ameen .

  • Asalaam alaikum, mashallah a good lecture. Please check out 'True Stories Of Death' by Sheikh Feiz. Wallahi when i first heard 'true stories of death' it made me cry and i haven't listen to music since then. Wasalam

  • I know he give a dawah course, i would love to seen that.

  • Asalamualakum very real well itz a sad reaility jazakallah khair 4 sharing

  • Much needed!!!! SubhanAllah in a day where people adhere to unfounded opinions against the IJMA across the four schools, the Haq spoken here is a breath of fresh air. go to any nasheed video on youtube and as politely as one can highlight that it is impermissibile to listen to music: "you extremist!, go back to tora bora mountains!" etc. Its a shame that those people who say this do not realise the implication of the words and those whom they implicate - vis a vis - Prophet SAW, Sahabah RA.
