So crazy how the audio cuts out at my absolute favorite part of the song. One question for you Barb or anyone else out there. Is the line, "Oh no, what to do? Just makes it hard, to choose"? Or is it, "Don't know what to do, just makes it hard to choose"? Online it's listed as the latter, but the former sounds more like what he says to me.
I couldn't agree more with your comments about this song being one of the greatest endings to an album ever. I always thought that Wish You Were Here was Badfinger's Abbey Road (actually, I prefer WYWH). Billy Davis does a great job on vocals here, but it's too bad he got the lyrics wrong. It should be, "Why do they play so hard to get?"
I can't help but hear this with a tear in my eye. Wish You Were Here was Badfinger's masterpiece. Should have been huge, but we all know the story. I wish there was some video or audio of music from this back in 74. It is in your hands now Joey.
Is Billy Davis still playing with them? If so, while I knew and liked Randy a lot I sure wouldn't mind seeing this lineup - with Jerry Shirley on drums of course.
The amazing "Wish You Were Here" initially got great reviews before it got yanked after just two weeks due to contractural problems. My brother bought a gross of the album in the $1.99 cutout bin just to hand around to his friends, as practically nobody in the world was aware of it. too sad.
I agree this medley (whatever you want to call it) is one of the greatest moments in rock history. But In The Meantime/Some Other Time is even better. I have a feeling Wish You Were Here would have done a hell of a lot better had it been the album opener. Thanks for this really very good version.
This Line up is the same of the Show in Brazil in april, 2006 and this song was the best performance live ! Much special moments of emotion ! Thank you for post ! God bless you !
"Meanwhile Back at The Ranch/Should I Smoke" was the final song(s) on Badfinger's "Wish You Were Here" album. This medley has to be one of the greatest endings to an album ever (along with the medley from "Abbey Road"). The first song was written by Pete Ham and the second song by Joey Molland. The original Badfinger band never performed these songs live. In 2000, it was added to Joey Molland's Badfinger's set list with Billy Davis singing Pete's parts.
This performance was recorded on July 14, 2001 in downtown Cincinnati, OH (Notice the Ohio River in the background). Unfortunately, it was marred somewhat by technical difficulties when the PA went out for a few seconds near the end. The stage monitors continued working and and are audible during the short drop out. It wasn't the last technical glitch of the night, however. More on that on a future upload.
The band was Joey Molland on guitar and vocals, Mark Healey on bass and vocals, John Richardson on drums, Billy Davis on guitar and vocals, and Steve Wozney on keyboards and vocals.
That final guitar solo is Badfinger's touch on the Abbey Road comparison record to "Wish You Were Here".....

Molland is a legend, and a songwriting genius.

I have always loved this song; Joey you’re GREAT!
Together you and Badfinger were at the peak of your careers during the recording of, WISH YOU WERE HERE… Your song, LOVE TIME is one of your best!
Too bad what happened with Pete & Mike’ what a shame… You will always be one of my most favorite performers and artists; wishing you all the best.
PS: are there any outtakes from the WISH YOU WERE HEAR album; if so, please release them – as fans, we WANT to hear them…

Joey has his head down after the song and seems very moved. If Billy is still in the group Joey should feature him more on Pete's songs.

Oops! I meant to say that Billy Davis sounds just like the singer who did "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet."

Mark Healey sounds just like BTO doing "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet."

BadFinger's "Wish You Were Here" remains one of my favourite albums of all time.
This is a pretty good version of the finale and Billy Davis does a very creditable job of stepping into the shoes of the great Pete Ham.
